Summary: RockStar Date 03 14 09 A day that will live in rock roll infamy KICK performed for another 100 000 people Saturday over a half million if you count the folks who watched on Fox News as part of one of the best and best attended Hartford St Patrick s Parades ever God bless the fine folks at McKinnon s Irish Pub for thinking as did we that having KICK on the back of their float sounded like an awesome idea There s something remarkably exciting about waking up the morning of a parade and knowing you re not only going to it you are going to be in it The excitement quadrupled as we boarded the rolling stage dance floor flatbed S S KICKBAND a mighty street worthy vessel she Scotty was afforded the rare distinction of being served the first beer McKinnon s poured that day at the princely hour of 9 00 01 a m It was certainly not the last they would pour nor would it be the last we d order The unseasonably beautiful weather brought out an equally beautiful and diverse mix of parade goers some Irish some clearly not many just taking full advantage of an opportunity to somewhat legally carry an open container wandering through the city In the morning You guys rocked We especially enjoyed playing for the waving families particularly kids many of whom may never have seen a real band before One could argue they still haven t but we sure had fun pretending And if you can imagine what it feels like to launch into a Dropkick Murphys song in front of an Irish pub you can imagine why we feel so very lucky indeed Had the day ended there it would have still ranked high among life s most rocking But alas there was more A few corned beef sandwiches and a catnap later we headed 30 miles north to West Springfield MA to visit our friends at Geraldine s Their T shirts say Good Things Start at the G but today the G was more like a comfortable eminently happy ending a nightcap among fine company Few things are as reliable as a good time at Geraldine s and this evening s performance was no exception Kudos to Kevin for breaking a personal record for number of Joe Lee references he could sandwich into his lyrics Kudos to Joe Lee for simply being there and a serious big thanks to Mr Lee for hooking us up with the lunch with Hinder and the Motley Crue tickets Some 60 songs later the day like all good things had to come to an end I left what used to be my fingerprints in the strings of my guitar it hurts just to tap these keys But hey I can still use them to count my lucky stars T was a day for the books But then it was just another day in our continuing tour of duty in the name of the rock a tour that brings us back to JR s in Rhode Island and the Black Bear Saloon Hartford this weekend So may the road rise to meet your feet Irish folk And let s all help each other
