Best place to buy a puppy in the SW suburbs of chicago? Petland vs Happiness Is Pets? I've gone to Petland and they have great packages when it comes to purchasing a puppy. They have financial aid and let you pay for accessories over a period of time, plus free vet visit. I haven't seen Happiness Is Pets, but I'm wondering how good they are when it comes to prices of puppies and any deals/packages they have? Which is better? Or is there a better place other than these two?

Do the puppies at Happiness Is Pets have all their shots while on sale? I played with an American Bulldog and he was a lively one. But he loved to nip and bite. So he was nip'n and bite'n at my pants and shirt. He did bite n nip ocasionally at my bare skin of my legs n arms. Can someone help?

Am I normal??? I am totally fixated on my pets and their wellbeing, their happiness and their amusement? What to get them as treats? What to do to keep them safe? or happy? Would you protect the happiness of your pet over that of a human being? My grandmother is very old and her personality has changed for the worse lately. She lives with me, and has started to treat my dogs badly. At first she spoke to them roughly and nudged them away from her with her foot. But lately she's kicked at them, and purposely run into them with her walking frame. I dont think she's hurting them, but it upsets me that they are being treated poorly. With this many shops selling thousands of dogs bred by Steve Kruse you would think that something would have been done to shut down all of these operations. What do you think of these situations? 1. A couple of months ago my friend wanted a pup and decided to go to THE PETSHOP...tsk tsk. Of course I told him where the pups come from. And on top of that, he was suppose to sign a contract saying he would see their vet for the first year and it was ABSOLUTE that he had to buy the first 24 lbs bag of food from them which was I think Purina. 2.Would you have even bothered to ask the lady these questions or just allow your friend to proceed? 3. Help Dog problems, possibly distemper? Okay so my dog is acting very strange all of the sudden. She is a 11 month old Boxer/Lab mix, and in the last month she has been acting afraid of my family and hides under the table when we walk in our kitchen. She also looks up at the lights quite often within the last two months. We have a 10 year old Maltese who never does any of these things. (please don't suggest ghosts, I'm looking for a real answer.) Now where we bought our puppy from just closed down about two months ago and we just found out the reason was for selling puppies with distemper. We are so scared for our puppy that she has distemper, and we have never hurt her in anyway to make her afraid of us. She is also caught up on all of her shots and visits to the vet. What do I do with my ever-growing Koi? I love my Koi. They are my pets and have brought happiness, laughter, peace, and good fortune to my home for over 3 years. They very healthy and very beautiful. My problem is, that they continue to grow and grow! When I bought them, they were 1 inch long each. Now they are about 9-10 inches and still growing. Two Trichotillomania Questions? I've been pulling out my eyebrows and eyelashes since I was about 13. I'm nearly 19, I've been lucky as the hair has kept growing back over the years as some people never have it grow back. 13 is the age (around about) people start this, is there any particular age when people stop? My rabbit recently died, for some reason I was pulling my hair out 80% less when I had her. I'm trying as hard as I can not to pull because I can't stand how I look without the hair and my mum gets seriously upset when I do it. I told her I'd try taking him for 2 weeks to see if it worked out before I commit to keeping him. I JUST got him home today---he is understandably scared, and pissed (I had to give him a bath upon getting him home b/c he peed in the cat carrier). I gave him his space allll night, and actually no one was even home for a few hours. However...he continues to hiss and swipe and growl and yowl and whenever I get near him (not even to pet him, but to get something on a shelf near him, etc) he hisses and spats and tries to claw me. While I was lying in bed on my laptop he did come lay down a foot or 2 away from me, but continued to be vocal and warn me I dare not pet him if I value my fingers. Also, I have 2 other cats, and a ferret. How do I a) ensure the safety and happiness of my pets (I don't want them to get depressed by this bully cat who has been taking over the bedroom, where my pets usually hang out); and b) I don't need this cat to be a lap cat, but I do not want to tolerate him hissing and swiping at me or my pets everytime we get near him. A Question About Belief? This is a question for anyone who considers himself/herself to be religious. I had a cat that I raised from a kitten, which I loved dearly and which had helped me through many bouts of psychological messiness. The other night, she was caught and killed by the coyotes that infest our woods. Now, according to religion, my cat has no soul, and therefore is punished by being disallowed into Heaven. Why, according to religion, is my cat doomed to rot in the intestines of mangy carnivorous canines, while I will (presumably) be treated to endless happiness? What is my insecurity based on? Hi, I'm 18 years old and I havent got a girlfriend yet. I would always get very sad when going to a thematic park because I would see every other guy with his gf and that reminded me I had non. All of the sudden I stopped having fun and felt like crying. Now, I am honest, I think one reason is sex, but any time I feel the urge I know how to take care of it myself. I've read and heard many times that men have the need of feeling loved... well, I got plenty of really cool friends who always want to see me, I know it's not because I am the best team player, or the richest guy in town (because I'm not any of those things) I also have a very loving mother and father, a great set of loving uncles, aunties and cousins, pets, a safe home. I honestly think I'm cool. I rarely feel sad, but when I am it's because I don't have a girlfriend. It puzzles me that in all my vast pool of happiness that 99% of my hours alive are, why do I get sad because I don't have a girlfriend? I don't care about peer pressure. What happens and does it hurt when an animal (cat, dog, etc.) is put to sleep or euthanized? I wanted to re-post this question on Yahoo answers because I need to add an important answer, but couldn't because it was resolved. I had a dog "put to sleep", and it was a heart-breaking experience. I want to tell you what happened so that no one else ever has to go through the same thing. Lightning was basically a healthy dog (a lovely black labrador retriever), but in her old age she was starting to get very aggressive, and she began attacking our other animals and children who came around. My mom finally decided she needed to be put to sleep, before she hurt someone. When we took her to the vet, they injected her with the needle, and we were all shocked because she was wide awake and very upset as she began dying. She did not "fall to sleep" or just "slip away" peacefully. She was trying to move, struggling to breathe and was looking at us confused and upset as she was dying before our eyes. None of us could do anything, even though she was looking at us, begging for help. We could not believe how bad it was and none of us could stop crying during or afterward. After this terrible ordeal, (and too late) I researched animal euthanasia and discovered that veterenarians should anesthetize any animal before they inject it with the "death drug". Do not believe anyone (including a vet) who tells you that they won't feel a thing because the lethal injection is just an overdose of anesthesia. Even though this is true, the anesthesia goes straight from the vein to the heart, and it is in such a high does that it stops their heart before any of the anesthesia ever reaches their brain. An animal should first be put to sleep with a dose anesthesia such as they would use for heart surgery, like isoflurane (which they give through a mask after sedation), before the lethal injection is given. Do not let your animal be put down while it is awake like we made the mistake of doing. Also make sure that the vet is administering real anesthesia to your dog/cat, and not just a sedative drug (because then they can still feel the heart attack even though they are sleepy and unable to do anything about it). Am i a therian dog ?? please help? Underprivileged Pets? My life of 50 yrs has been filled with numerous animal companions to love & provide for. I think back & remember all the love & happiness they have brought to me & I also can't forget the 8 pets I have now who I love, cherish & protect everyday. ALL STRAYS OR ABANDONED ! In the past I could afford to have pets, no problem. Our economy, it seems is making this providing part harder & harder for me & so many others. I live in North Central Florida, just been here a yr,(WRONG MOVE) moved my 8 babies w/me from Ohio. As i go about my daily business i can't help but notice the MANY, MANY, MANY STRAYS in this area ! So many MORE than the busy metro of Cincinnati I left. There is not a day that goes by that I, who, would notice these things, neglected dogs, cats in fields, on busy roads & hiways, at Walmart p-lot, the library, church, EVERYWHERE! While returning home the other day I saw 5 kittens huddled (5-8 wks old) together in a field wet & starving....i took them to the local Animal Shelter & they REFUSED them!!!NO ROOM! after it took me 1 hr. to russel them to my car for they were starved & scared to death! There is a lady 1/2 mile from my house who is very unfortunate monetarily with 35 PLUS cats & dogs ALL STRAYS who i help when i can with leftover & un-liked food etc. She doesn’t know how to stop taking them in. She sez “they just keep coming!” SHE TOOK THEM IN ! WE JUST CRIED because i knew i was burdening her but what were we to do ??? Use them for fishing bait like the guy down the way!? NOT US! our LOVE saved them for now!I know there are many people things to worry about in our world today....but I mean it i see dogs on the streets, on the dangerous hiways, around dumpters, or dead, running, starving, cats missing a leg, missing an eye, 2-5 dogs cats in the parking lots of Walmart, the gas station,up to 2-6 EVERYDAY here in Live Oak, FLA & am just heart broken!!! I think sometimes i shouldn't go out for what I might SEE!! I carry around 1/2 bags of dog/ cat food a bowl & a pitcher of water ALWAYS & when I see a stray baby I get honked at, yelled at because i am feeding them & protecting them for just a moment on the side of the road!! I couldn't take them home, i would just end up like my neighbor w/ so many neglected babies to feed...and i can BARELY feed myself & my 8 STRAYS, I've acquired in the last 12 yrs on my SS income!!!! PLEASE pray that God Almighty helps us with this struggle. FEED your pets, keep them close & DO NOT LET them stray to worry ME & others who truly care!??? When I pet my chocolate lab he bites my arm. How can I get him to stop it? Its not a hard bite, but a big slobbery one and he is being affectionate and wagging his tail as he is sticking my whole forearm in his mouth. How can there be a God when good dogs die? I just had to put down my 3 year old Aussie. What a great dog. Certified in Pet Therapy, has brought two people out of coma's, and brought dozens of people happiness in the hospital. Some higher power decided to give this dog an unknown, can't be detected virus, or something that crippled him and made him unable to walk. It happened very fast, within 2 months, and I had to put him to sleep yesterday. I even went to churches where everyone prayed to God to help this poor creature. Moving cross the atlantic with pets? My husband and I may be leaving to go to Dallas in a few months from England. We will stay for 2 years minimum. We love our cat and dog enormously, adn I would expecially miss my cat hugely, but the most important thing is their happiness. Is it ok to take them with them- how do we prepare for such a journey with them? Has anyone else done it. We don't have any friends/ family able to take on our pets for that period, our only option would be to give them away/ sell them for good. I also have a cat as well. My cat kind of hates my dog, but he stays well out of his way, so they don't ever argue or anything. I think the combined friendliness of beagles and labs will do the trick. But, I still need all three of them to cooperate without anyone getting hurt. Any tricks or tips on how to do this? So, I told my parents about the concept of this (and my parents don't really like taking care of pets) and they were actually agreeing. As in, when I told them about how I would take care of everything and how small and cute they are, they smiled and thought about it. I know they're thinking about how nice it would be, and now I need them to be serious about it. I haven't whined or complained ONCE, either. So, how could I convince my parents to really do it? I have 2 female 4mth old bunnies that do not like being stroked or handled has anyone got any ideas? i have had them since they were 8 weeks old they have always been quite shy and frightened.we spent lots of time holding them when we first had them but this didn't seem to improve their confidence so we decided to let them run around our garden rather than just in their pen to try to give them more happiness which they seem to love, however they are now almost impossible to catch. not sure what to do now as they are more like wild bunnies on the lawn rather than the family pets we had hoped for.

Why is my guinea pig dragging his legs and eating his feet? My guinea pig underwent some mysterious process in a week. I didn't really give him any attention because I was studying for an important exam, but when I went to clean his cage, he was dragging his legs. His feet are also disfigured; he's clearly been chewing on them. He chewed one to the point where there is a bone sticking out of his foot where his toe should be. Over the course of the week, he didn't indicate any pain or anything, just stayed in his pig-loo and stuck his head out whenever I put food in his bowl. Around the time when I last really spent time with him, I did drop his cage while he was in it, but I honestly thought he was okay... My mom and I took him to the vet, and they didn't find any fractures or broken bones. All they gave us was some anti-inflammatory medicine for his feet, and the swelling went down as a result. It also isn't due to a Vitamin C deficiency because he has a lot of variety in his diet and his dry food contains Vitamin C. I'm completely at a loss for what to do for my piggy. He's still very active, indicates happiness when I pet him, and is eating and excreting waste just fine. I put Neosporin on his feet regularly now and specialized a yogurt cup to put on his head to keep him from doing anymore damage to his feet when I am unable to watch him, but he still hasn't regained the use of his legs. He does use them more than when I first discovered he had problems, but he's not using them to walk. Any ideas what may be wrong? How can I make him more comfortable or help him recover?

When was the last time you cried? Can be out of happiness, sadness or even laughter! xP? Tonight my mom had a party seeing as it's her birthday tomorrow. We have very loud music and speakers around the place, lights, disco balls, music videos on the wall. My cat's are extremely scared and threatend by men (let alone over 30 of them including music up full blast and flashing lights) so i put them in the other end of the house and closed the door. My step-uncle actually left the door open so one of the cat's escaped. that was about 8 or 9 PM. I spent most of my night worrying about her and wondering where she was. (She runs away when she scared). It wasn't whether she was going to be okay or not which was upsetting me because i know shes a smart cat but it's the stress of not knowing, where she is, what shes doing, or what shes cappable of. Especially knowing that she wouldn't know when it's safe to come back. So pretty all night i was looking for her, running around the house, looking in bushes, looking under the house, under the cars. Couldn't find her anywhere. To make it wourse it's been raining all night. at about 1 or so i began to look for her again (just like the other times everytime i got outside it started raining even harder). I had the boxo of cat food to get her attention and a torch to see where i was going. I ran up steps, went through bushes, spider webs, more steps and eventually got to a small grass area (i live on a very large property with HUGE gardens) where i spotted her with my torch. Thats when i last cried. Out of happiness and relief. I dropped the box of food and the torch, petted her to make her feel safe, picked her up, rushed down more steps, UP more steps, through bushes where i eventually got to the door at the end of the house, put her in with the two other cats and dried her off with a towel. It's now almost 3 AM and I haven't left her side since. And i'm not going to until the parties over and it's safe to move the cats to my room where we can sleep! ;) I'd do anything for my babies. ;) I know the whole thing really wasn't a big deal but it's hard when everyone around you in on something (drug wise) or drunk. Especialy when their all up in your face. Wow, sorry for such a long story! haha. Anyway, what about you? ;) and by the end of the night i was soaked. It wasn't just men it was woman too. Shes having a party? when you have a party you don't just invite 10 people.. Oh and with my pets i like to have little songs as we get through hard times. Katrina: Why are people celebrating so much devastation & loss? With the l year anniversary of Katrina, there are prades and celebration. It's wonderful to thank God for your life, but what about the people still living in FEMA trailers that have to find other living quarters, people who were financially disabled, the loss of pets and family. How do you know when to let go of your kittie? I have a cat (Itchy), he is 8+ and was recently diagnosed with chronic renal failure. Based on the tests that have been conducted, it seems as though it is in an advance stage. I took him home after 4 days at the vet and he seems to be happy we did so. Although, he is comfortable and happy to be home, he is still not eating much and is not drinking nearly as much as he should be, he is also not going potty much. I do not think he has a BM in about a week. He is definitely sleeping more, but he is still playful, and purrs when we caress him and wants to be around us all the time. (As he has always done) Based on what I have read, the prognosis is not good as it is not reversible and I eventually will have to put him down. I am struggling making this decision as I need to understand how do you know if you are rushing into doing something that will mean losing your pet? How do you know if you are taking too long making a decision that will supposedly mean he will be “better off”? how do you know it is more humane to put him down than continue to love him dearly until the end??? My heart aches at the though of carrying on with the decision to end this before it get worse. How do you live with the fact that you have ended the life of a living being that has provided so much happiness and companionship? I appreciate any advice and personal experience anyone has had on this. Please keep in mind this is the first time I have to make this decision and even though some of my thoughts and questions are somewhat selfish, I want to make sure I do what is best for him even if it means I have to let him go :’( Thanks in advance!

I have found my piece of mind. How do I share a peace of that? It begins with budget.? I did not come to Smith expecting to be educated on how to think, but according to David F. Wallace, that is precisely what one learns in a liberal arts education and possibly the most important tool one will use when set free into the real world. I recently watched a documentary called “The Secret”; preaching scientifically, the same lesson that came across in the David Wallace reading. The secret to happiness, joy, and success all evolve around the laws of attraction, or having a positive attitude. Honestly, I find this somewhat silly, and in contradiction to so much I have learned in reading Bourdieu. Essentially, if one chooses to think positively, they will attract the positive to their life. Although this gives me hope, I know it is not all that simple. It would be thought that homeless beggars on the street must attain a positive attitude to go on living, yet I don’t see them attracting much more than compassion from others. One must be aware, dedicated, and driven to attract what they want most, and these notions of thought are what a liberal arts education can give. Or can it? Taking advantage of a liberal arts education can create competition, drive, and work ethic, which is important. On the contrary, that is precisely what creates the self-centeredness and belittling thoughts that, according to Wallace, we all have but should deeply try to remove. So then, this liberal arts education manipulates us more than we think. Not only do we competitively and selfishly fight for an A, but in order to do so we fear the Professors’ every judgment and transform ourselves into what we imagine as the “teachers pet”. This contradicts the notion that education teaches us how to think freely, because in fact, our thoughts are formulated in accordance to the schools expectations, the reputation, the people, and so on. I am coming to a conclusion that experiences may be the best way of educating oneself how to think. And it will be self centered thought, but I’d rather think self centered from hands on personal experience than from the competition, rigor and expectation that school systems inevitably generate and engrain into us. But back to reality- I need to get a job some day, and I don’t think roaming the streets searching for enlightening experiences will do the trick. In the reading by Wallace, he states that “you get to decide what to worship.” Once again, I cannot see the whole truth in this, but immensely understand our need to spiritually feel so. There is a conscious separation that we need to make between our beliefs and desires, and our intelligence and mind. Personally, this separation of Self has been the hardest obstacle for me to overcome. So many of us get stuck in one dimension of self, disabling us from finding true enlightenment in all aspects of life. I am a student, but why can’t I be a soccer player, and an artist, and so on. I suppose the safest and most traveled path in life is to be a “fish”, and go with the sheepish, ignorant flow of society. I see nothing wrong with this, to disregard my criticism. It only makes me sad that our education systems have unconsciously stripped its students of exploring freely to their fullest extent. On the other hand, education and knowledge opens doors for exploration. It is society itself, as a total institution that has created the water for the “fish” to swim. Hopefully, with the help of education, more and more of us “fish” will be caught, and (not eaten) but freed of societies expectations.

Why does my hamster roll around? Is he happy or aggitated? I walk up to his cage and pet him and he starts to roll around in the bedding. I just want to know if this is normal.
