Do you think being a "tortured" mind makes you more creative and better with poems, stories, songs, etc? I mean, if you take a look at Edgar Allen Poe, he went through a lot throughout his whole life, and look at the success he makes from his stories and poems. Is it what we relate to best, the troubles of our lives? Michael Jackson had a hard childhood, and he became the king of pop. Is this poem a success? Allegory You are the flower that skipped the bloom You are the voice following me to my tomb. You are the forbidden fruit of the bunch. You are the treasured fruit of my punch. The strings that support me and winds that have passed Compare not a thing to the memories that will last. The ice has cracked the burgs retreat to poles Despite the drift we share the same floor. i think it sounds unfinished but the meaning is clever i think...? what do you think??? ok thanks guys. just want to add that i didn't write it. i thought that the flower skipping the bloom ment like, missed the oppurtunity to really express oneself and become beautiful; more than just a bud. ? but from your answers my opinions have changd, thanks :)

Pls rate my poem (My success Song)? My Success Song ---------------------------- Mushy heart understands not Has been distorted to ashen gray Silted wounds grow as mound Eroding life from my sea shore Sprinkled salt makes me halt Have to succumb some more The path is long and I drift along Fluttering and holding the anchor of life Beacon I see towards which I flee The storm enrages shaking my core My gondola is lost, It is a thing of past The beacon now glows inside my heart I’ll light up my soul and emerge as a whole Crusading till I lose the last of my breath Through barriers I’ll wade, the gloom will fade And the sea will chant my success song

What does the poem "Success" by Ralph Waldo Emerson mean? In psychology, we are asked to write about this poem, what it means. I don't know what it means. If you would please write an intro, a paragraph or two about it. To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. **BEST ANSWER GETS 10 POINTS!**

A poem about self-doubt meeting success, comments? Overshadowed by the dankest of fear self-doubt extends clammy hand to shake the hand belonging to the promise of future success expecting clasp to be limp as a fish he was stunned instead to find a surprising firmness of grip, and the warmth exchanged as it passed skin to skin both awakened and transformed self-doubt changed into confidence and learned prior dampness found on his hesitantly proffered hand was from wiping doubt's futile tears.

Where does one draw the line as a poet? I was told by a contact that my poems were too painful to read, as a person and friend, I was sorry my words had caused her pain by touching too deeply. Yet as a poet, doesn't that mean the poem was a success to have elicited such an intense response? I'm torn with this issue and would appreciate your perspectives. Thank you.
Is this a good review of my first collection of poems? Graham Hardie, Love’s Pathos (Edinburgh: Ettrick Forest Press, 2007) 45 pp. £6.99, ISBN 1-873586-28-0 There was a time when the preface and the footnotes appended to The Anathemata intrigued and nourished me more than the actual poem. Now, after many re-readings and much ‘letting be’, the poem itself shimmers in the foreground. Still, my initial response bears out Jones’ anxiety that the once-shared backgrounds which underpin his work were fast vanishing. What would he make of our age with its dream-your-own spirituality disconnected or adrift from Christianity, but where knowledge, or pretended knowledge, of arcane runes, spells, curses, and blessings are instantly accessible simply by looping into the Web? ‘… that dead symbols litter to the base of the cult-stone … that the stream is already low’ Jones certainly believed, but now perhaps in our age the litter is turned over and over more like autumn leaves than rubbish, raked and gathered in heaps to begin a slow accretion of new soil. From the debris of past mythology and the bric-a-brac of ancient or newly-minted beliefs Graham Hardie has shaped many of the poems in Love’s Pathos. The hung corpse in the tree, the raven, the emblematic wolf and crow, the huntress, the White Goddess, red seals singing of Lancelot: poem after poem takes wing from the myths and symbols which have streamed into his imaginative world from all the human tribes, mediated through pop songs perhaps or tarot cards, or the worlds of Malory, Frazer, Robert Graves, Ted Hughes. The auspice child The waking night The gliding star And heaven’s light. (p.14) Jones gathered all that was most dear to him, and, echoing Nennius sorrowing amongst the ruins of his own apocalyptic landscape, ‘made a heap of all I could find’, using footnotes glorious and rampant to elucidate the motifs and mysteries. Hardie lets his poems be and readers must make their own connections, work out their own footnotes. This carries its own dangers. If the subject matter is impenetrable to the uninitiated, then the success or the memorableness of the poem depends all the more on the poet’s technical skill to ensure that the naming and listing, the gnomic utterances, come to mean more than their parts, that the ‘angel who steals her wings/ From God’ does actually fly. Brief phrases and short poems for the most part display his ability to soar and sing, to create the magical, the unsettling and weird: the shipwreck ‘in the speckled pit of the sea’, ‘the hiatus of the night heron’, ‘… a place where we hid as children/ Under the auspice of the ancient elder tree.’ Women predominate as subject matter. The Eve/Mary dichotomy imagined by clerics all the way from the early church fathers and who knows how long before them, resonates still: woman as sorceress, temptress, consoler, healer. The Lady of the Isle, Ophelia, a Rebecca, a Melanie or simply an anonymous ‘She’ or ‘You’ are pierced with the tenderness of love, or the urgency of sexual longing. ‘Two-tier she is and there is an asking/ Price as we bid for more. It is needed all the same.’ (p. 18) The poems are interspersed with art works by Katy Jones, many of female figures at once sultry, lustful, demonic; or the cover-girl herself, flaunting her kitschy pop-song blare, frankly off-putting. Others are tender, lyrical and haunting. A young girl waits beneath a leafless tree, or rests beside a well at the centre of a garden, the image chiming with the gentle nursery song rhymes and rhythm of the words across the way in ‘Rose Garden’ with its Walter de la Mare enchantments. Hardie’s touch is much less sure in the narrative poems, (‘Poetic Voice’, ‘Stone’, ‘A Storm is Happening’, ‘Winter Blues’). The attempts to capture a moment, a white dot in a day otherwise mundane remain simply bald statements. ‘I recollect things which mean so much’ … ‘It brought back such sweet memories … It was worth the wait.’ ‘I am no romantic and I am no poet,’ he muses ruefully in “Wolf and Crow’, ‘I only collect your thoughts/ and mould them/ Into shapeless meanings.’ (p. 45) When do words become poetry? Strong emotions and treasured memories are not of themselves sufficient. Tighter editing should have excised many of these lumbering phrases (‘the view is quite unique’ … ‘unique in memory’, both alas in the same poem (p. 17); written-off ‘the fleeting morbidity of the melancholic/ Sinews of my tidal consciousness’; perhaps simply should have dumped the slighter poems that have drifted into the banality of second-rate pop songs (‘Everlasting’, ‘The Earth’) and queried whether the ‘corporate vision’ of the sleeping Rebecca could ever hope to escape the taint of management-speak. But this is a first book, and published by a small, independent press, and so to be welcomed rather than harshly censured. Let one poem stand for what Hardie at the moment does best: ‘A Holy Place’ A ship slips along the sea at night. A holy place set in water, where Saints come the poem she quoted at the end should be ‘A Holy Place’ A ship slips along the sea at night. A holy place set in water, where Saints come to die. The air is stiff and whales Swim silently and swiftly Through the ocean bed. (p. 10) the review will be published in The David Jones Journal at the end of this year

For those who like poems or poetry... what is your favorite poem? remember the subject of the poem does not have to be about love... I think that subject is highly overrated.... hey but if your favorite poem is a love poem then its fine to put it here. My favorite poem personally (the 1st one that comes to mind anyways:) is one of Emily Dickinson..... Success is tasted sweetest by those who never succeed, to taste a nectar requierest sorest need........ :) I dont know it word for word....... I just remember a few words so my bad if its not word for word but I always like the message of that poem about how people who never succeed savor or appreciate success the best. I especially like the example she gives in her poem.... about a mortally wounded soldier left to die in the battlefield... who listens and hears the cheers of his enemies who have claimed war victory. That poem is my favorite.... which one is yours?
What is a poem about being successful and alone? Not one of all the purple Host Who took the Flag today Can tell the definition So clear of Victory As he defeated-dying On whose forbidden ear The distant strains of triumph Burst agonized and clear! also in: Hope” is the thing with feathers— BY EMILY DICKINSON “Hope” is the thing with feathers— That perches in the soul— And sings the tune without the words— And never stops—at all— And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard— And sore must be the storm— That could abash the little Bird— That kept so many warm— I’ve heard it in the chillest land— And on the strangest Sea— Yet, never, in Extremity, It asked a crumb—of Me.
A poem I wrote, relating to "Success is counted sweetest by those who ne'er succeed." What do you think? Ok, well I'm 16, so if this sucks, I'll just blame it on my age. Either way, I tried. Here we go. "Success is counted sweetest by those who ne'er succeed." The truest of all statements. Those who lose are lucky And at the same time, unfortunate. As their hearts begin to fill with "need." They become envious of those to whom they've lost. Angry at themselves for their mistakes While never showing it, As they are not able, to fight past their pride. This people with to win, But at what cost? Victory becomes a graceful maiden. They lust her existence until they obtain her. Then their greed binds her tightly. They become gluttons to her attention. They don't wish to lose her, So they quit trying all together. Until, with sloth, the are entirely laden. Regardless if you lose, or you win, Regardless of what you do, One way or another, Everyone's heart is filled with sin... Envy, Anger, Pride, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth
What is the smart way to go about having a book published? I have a friend who is a wonderful poet. I have been encouraging him to have his poems published, but he does not know how to go about it and do it with success. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Do you like this poem celebrating Barack's success? It was posted by one of his friends/colleagues...? THE END OF AMERICA “The end of an empire is messy at best And this empire is ending Like all the rest Like the Spanish Armada adrift on the sea We’re adrift in the land of the brave And the home of the free Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye” This was posted by Obama's long time friend and colleague, Billy Ayers the terrorist, on his blog. Obama has utterly lied about his association with Ayers, who has set him up in every school and job since 1981 as his frontman to do the big-hit radical-terrorist-America - Destruction. Everything...Columbia, Sibley, Woods Fund, Annenberg Challenge, ACORN, Harvard everything, and he is still a campaign adviser A vote for Obama is a vote to put Ayers in the White House. http://texasdarlin.wordpress.com/2008/09/21/the-trojan-candidate/#comments

Does anyone know what the name of the poem that goes like this? I used this poem in High School that was about two mountain climbers. Two males and they climbed up to this peak that looked like a Giant Finger and then one of the men fell off the mountain side and injured himself. His friend then pushed him farther off the mountain to kill him all the way and then he climbed down and left. I have been trying to find this poem again but without any success anyone know the name or author!

Poetry about success -best answer-? I need a poem, or as many as possible on success, preferrably on how failure leads to success but any would be good. =]
what do you think of these poems? here are some of my poems what do you think of them which do oyu htink is the best?: Books, books oh marvellous books Such a great creation I do not read them for their looks But yet their inspiration I want you to know that I’ll follow you through disasters I want you to know that I’ll love you through the pain Life isn’t easy, But I’ll get through, And I know it because I got you, my gift from heaven I’ve been standing here just waiting For the answerers to come to me And every second I keep creating What they might be But everything I make up Gets me farther from the truth And I just want to wake up To find my answers pursued And still I am just looking For my answers to come to me Because I really need to see What I need to be And I guess I’m just so worried That my answers will not be a success I just forgot to lead My self out of this distress
Dont give up in what your doing poetists? I am not Good at Poems A shattered day for me, so I take it all out on poetry Writing my sincere emotions through the computer And print it out so I can have a future. You see, I want to write poetry Nothing to do but to snooze through, The day and hope someday that I will find a way. I try and try but don’t get any better, People say I got talent but yet its like I’m a setter A setter for worthlessness and sorrow ness I question Yahoo so I may fill The piece of my heart missing still. Still hope to find it one day of my pure success in poetry. Poetry filled my heart don’t you see Not good at all, that’s what people see through my poetry Is it me or is it they…I don’t know until I find out one day. Poetry fills my heart, don’t leave me don’t depart She understands me; I understand her “Write to me, “I say to her! Knowledge is in my mind and now I see That the world can not understand me. I see through me and only me and that’s why I’m me. Corecton?

Are my poems any good...? Have you ever wanted to bring a gun to your head Have blood gushing out all over your bed. Have you ever just wanted to take too many pills Just enough so you know it kills Have you wanted to walk in to burning fire Watch the flames destroy all your attire Have you ever wished to hang yourself on a tree So dieing could really be a guarantee Have you wanted your brakes to stall So your car would go crashing into a wall. Have you ever really wanted to cut your veins So there was so much blood it stains. What many don’t see is there is some in pain People take it like it’s a game But no one knows how they really feel They talk about it, like it’s no big deal There’s people out there wanting just this Because there mom died, or got denied there first kiss People out there really want to die But why does no one ever care why Cant you see your best friend might really be sad Having a much worst life then you ever had Don’t deny what you know is true Or you could end up being a victim of suicide too --------------------------------------... Why do we sleep during the night The darkness is blinding, putting children in fright Why do only some die before there time In fires, earthquakes, and that one fatal crime Why do we torture the weak, but praise the strong When they are the ones causing what’s wrong. Why do we look at the bad but never the good Being nice to that girl like no one would. Why do we use violence to solve all are mistakes With guns, knives, and bones to break. Why do we care for those who could care less When they are the ones tearing up success Why do we risk all we have worked for To be richer then ever before Why, do we always say goodbye To the ones that never can give a reply --------------------------------------... A solider is fatally shot the ground A cry of hurt is his very last sound His dad kicked him as hard as he could He wanted his family to work like it should A little girl is pushed off her very first bike Her knee breaking with one simple strike A man his deliberately punched in the jaw His best friends face was the last he saw A simple middle school fight lead to her death Her boyfriend was fault of her very last breath He just wanted his little angel to stop crying He didn’t know shaking her lead to her dieing She hit him for being the cause of the lies Ignoring the bleeding, bruises, and cries He shot the gun without thinking ahead Knowing he’s the reason his brothers dead Violence just leads to more hurt and pain It’s like a cycle but there’s nothing to gain But revenge doesn’t solve one little thing Sooner or later you will feel the sting Why don’t we all just live in peace Causing all the guns and knives to decrease And cant you all see your in danger to Violence is finally here, and we all know its true --------------------------------- Dear god can you hear are cries from below Don’t you see this is not all for show People are dieing from lack of food Begging for something to eat from the crude Dear god cant you hear are prayers up there All this pain and suffering is surely not fair Are closet friends are dieing from one disease Cure them now I beg of you, please Dear god cant you see all the people in fear Yelling at the sky hoping you will hear All they want is someone to love Raising there voices to the sky above Dear god wont you listen to are pleas All we want is for the pain to seize People dieing from being in the wrong places Hoping you will see the pain in there faces God all we want is for you to see That you can make this go away, you’re the key And god were hoping you can hear are prayers Hoping you’re the one that truly cares --------------------------------------... Poems about memories? Poem 1 Memories Some are good, They reside in your grasp. Afraid of letting them go, You cherish them in your mind's clasp. Then there are the ones, Which never want to leave. As bad as they are, Forever through you, they'll weave. Then come your regrets, Those you wish never were. Without whom your humanity, Would appear to be bare. Our memories, Believe it or not, Are who we are, Down to the last spot. Poem 2 Memories Regrets, Same mistakes Once, Twice. Happiness, First love, First Kiss, First time. Shame, Embarrasment, Tripping, Slipping. Laughter, Good times, Joyful, Precious. Celebration, Birthdays, Success, new life. Memories, Cherishable, Till the end of time. _________________________ What do you think of each of these poems individually, and which poem do you like better? why? what do you hate about these poems...be brutal if you have to be...lol! thanks!

How can I learn both Arabic, and Farsi at the same time? Arabic is the language I want to learn for many reasons, including being part Arab. I want to learn Farsi, because I want to be able to read the poems of Rumi and Hafiz in the original language. Also, my serious boyfriend is Persian. Uh, Don't tell me I can't, I won't listen to that. Can't I learn them in a side-by-side complementary way? Is there a technique you linguists out there have used with some success? I can already sort of read both, though the vowels are confusing to me. I haven't been in a classroom setting for either yet, so I will have to wait till I can to use that method... Hey, I will master them! Give me hope... Wait, define "master". I know it's hard to master them for the native speakers even. But to be able to read and converse, and be semi-fluent in both is important to me. Hey Mr."Lose the raghead traditions. You'll be a better person." Ypu'll be a better person if you just stay in your doghouse of racism. I love the Middle East, among many places that I am connected to, and will be connected to. No, I don't mean in a terrorist way.
Death of the Fathers by Anne Sexton? Where can I find this poem? Is it part of a collection or a separate poem all on it's own? I've attempted "googling" it, however, I haven't had any success. I have a paper due, on this specific poem, in a few weeks and I would really appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

My mum is convinced Ogden Nash wrote a poem including reference to parallel lines does anyone know its title? We have looked on the internet with no success. Need a scholar of poetry for this one please! Have tried the ogden nash websites with no luck...over to you clever scholars
Could anyone help me find this poem? It is called "My Angel" I think, it might just be called "Angel". It was by "Becky Lucas" and published in a book called "Dazzled by the Moon" in 2003 by United Press. I have looked at the United Press website and tried to order the book but without success. I only want that one poem from it so if anyone knows anywhere I might find it or has the book with that poem in, please help me to find this. Thank you. Thanks for those. I should have said, it is Oxford United Press, UK. Thanks nemesisofbull but that is not the one. The name of the author is "Becky Lucas" and the link you put doesn't work. The last part of the poem is: "He is my angel, my bundle of joy, I love him so much, My little boy." Can't remember any more of it though.
What are some examples of intangible things like love, hate, luck etc? Intangible: things not physically there, you cannot touch it but it is like a feeling or emotion and such. I have to write this poem based on all intangible things and I can't think of enough. Here's what I came up with.. can anyone help?: love hate success luck hope secrets compassion some more but I hope people can help. Thanks!
I need a poem for my daughter who is graduating from High School . please help? I want to add a nice poem to my daughter's senior year book, we have a very close relationship and shes a wonderful daughter , im proud of her success and would like to add something special. Please help thanks.
Have you achieved success? He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men, and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul; who has never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty, or failed to express it; who has always looked for the best in others and given the best he had; whose life was an inspiration; whose memory a benediction. - Bessie A. Stanley
Are these poems an good...? Tragically, the rains pours with a deep sorrow many do not live to see tomorrow Tragically, in life some never get control many do not get to complete their goals Tragically, not just animals are faced with abuse many are unfortunate to receive more then one bruise Tragically, many tears are often shed the living turn into the dead. Tragically, the most beautiful creatures have to die at some point you have to say goodbye Tragically, war takes more then just one Violence is almost never done Tragic is when the sun has set, and your heart, is full of regret. ......................................... We live in a world where nothing is ever the same New things arising, something different to tame. And we can never know who friends really are. If we aren’t careful we may end up with a scar. Not just the things you see and the people you already know But the people you meet, and the ones you lost long ago. Sometimes the meeting of someone new ends to destruction But you have to learn to deal with a world full of introduction --------------------------------------... Why do we all sleep during the night The darkness is blinding, putting children in fright Why do only some die before there time In fires, earthquakes, and that one fatal crime Why do we torture the weak, but praise the strong When they are the ones causing what’s wrong. Why do we look at the bad but never the good Saving that life, that no one could. Why do we use violence to solve all are mistakes With guns, knives, and bones to break. Why do we care for those who could care less When they are the ones messing up success Why do we risk all we have worked for Why cant we be satisfied instead of wanting more Last but not least, why do we always say goodbye To the ones that never can give a reply I am only fourteen Some of you may say I need help, but you cant deny what I say is true. If you don’t like it, give me some advice, don’t just insult me. I have a lot of time for improvement, so well see what happens. Also, for the first poem I had Tragically at every line. People told me they did not like it so I did it every other line. Tell me what you think.
