Marriage.......? " Marriage is a constant battle for moral superiority" This question is for married people only (prefferably) and very simple. Do you agree or dissagree with this statement? Feel free to elaborate if you wish. Also, if you could, please state whether you are male or female and you age if you feel comfortable. Thank you for your help and input on this subject.
MARRiage!!? After just a few years of marriage, filled with constant arguments, a young man and his wife decided the only way to save their marriage was to try counseling. They had been at each other's throat for some time and felt that this was their last straw. When they arrived at the counselor's office, the counselor jumped right in and opened the floor for discussion. "What seems to be the problem?" Immediately, the husband held his long face down without anything to say. On the other hand, the wife began talking 90 miles an hour describing all the wrongs within their marriage. After 5...10...15 minutes of listening to the wife, the counselor went over to her, picked her up by her shoulders, kissed her passionately for several minutes, and sat her back down. Afterwards, the wife sat there speechless. He looked over at the husband who was staring in disbelief at what had happened. The counselor spoke to the husband, "Your wife NEEDS that at least twice a week!" The husband scratched his head and replied, "I can have her here every Tuesdays and Thursdays."

How is the marriage done in a police station valid? Most Indians are aware of the scenes in movies where the police inspector conducts the marriage of a couple that have run away from their families. This kind of marriage does not fall under the Hindu Marriage Act or the Special Marriage Act. Under what act is this kind of marriage covered and how is this marriage valid?
How is an arranged marriage so much more acceptable than a gay marrige? Arranged marriages are definitely not illegal anywhere in the world, and the royal wedding is receiving so many praises. However, no politician or company would ever dare to openly accept gay marriage as even tolerable. Shouldn't a gay marriage based on love be more acceptable than a marriage arranged for any other reason? Is marriage more about traditions and religion than it is about love?
What is a paper marriage and Cambodian arranged marriages? A friend of mine is in an arranged marriage and he says its a paper marriage. My friends and I can only think it's just getting the papers saying you're married no ceremony. He says a paper marriage is a fake marriage so she can get citizenship. I read online even if they get married she still has to go through everything to get citizenship here in the US. She is from Cambodia. He also doesn't want to get married but says it's to late in the engagement and Cambodians don't like it when you break them so he has to marry then divorce. Is any of this true?
What are some marriage tips/advice you can give me? What are things you did to make your marriage work? I am 20 years old and i would like some general advice on marriage...... I do not want to be part of the 50 percent of marriages that end in divorce and i would love to prevent these things before they start. If you are in a happy marriage and have been in one for years and years...... can you give me some advice? And tips? That worked for you? I asked this question before and got so many great answers, i would love to hear even more great answers!
What exactly is a contract marriage and is it treated like a real marriage? My boyfriend wants to get a contract marriage and then a real marriage once he is out of the army. I have no idea what a contract marriage is and I'm looking for some answers. Do I get to go where my soldier does? (deployment excluded of course) Is it treated like a real marriage? Should I even go along with his plan?
How would not legalizing gay marriage be a violation of the separation of Church and State? I am doing a paper for school and I am a bit confused on the subject of gay marriage. Would the separation of church and state be violated if gay marriage became legal or remained illegal? Can someone also give me valid reasons as to why gay marriage should be legalized? I am not pro gay marriage or anti gay marriage and I do mean to offend anyone with this question.
Is gay marriage a fake issue used by Republican and Democratic politicians to divert attention from the issues? Establishment Republicans and Democrats don't care about gay marriage. They are working together to make gay marriage an issue so that people will talk and talk and talk about the issue without realizing the massive American debt, the great economic problems, the expansion of big government into our lives, etc. People are more concerned about gay marriage. Don't get me wrong, it is an issue. But compared to our other problems, it's nothing. And politicians know this. The Democrats and Republicans are working together to keep the American public dumbed down. Do you agree?
What kind of people compare gay marriage to slavery? Is it just me, or is this comparison beyond offensive and degrading? What are gay marriage rights supporters going to say next, that denying gay marriage is comparable to genocide? Do gay marriage rights supporters think that they are going to make people support gay marriage and gay adoption by having a victim mentality, having sob stories and being self-entitled bullies who force their beliefs onto others? It seems like no low is too low for them. I can't believe people are comparing gay marriage to slavery, it's just shocking and sickening.
What makes gay marriage any different from an incestuous marriage between adults? And if you say incest is bad because it could lead to birth defects are you saying the only purpose of marriage is to produce offspring? If that's the case why allow gay marriage since they can't produce offspring? Besides there is birth control available or vasectomies etc. Logically what makes one worse than the other? Casey, thanks for the little lesson, now can you answer the question? Also homosexuality used to be illegal too so what's your point?
How is interracial marriage and same sex marriage the same? Marrying a member of the same gender is not the same as marrying a person of a different race because race and gender are not parallel, they’re not the same and here’s why. There is no difference between a white human and a black human’s psyche, but there are immense differences between a man and a woman’s psyche. Men and women are equal but not the same. If you are attracted to men and not women (regardless of your gender) you notice that men and women are not the same too, if you are attracted to women and not men (regardless of your gender) you notice that men and women are not the same also. A lot of these traditional marriage beliefs also have to do with children. People who are against same-sex marriage, believe children should think when they grow up they will get married, they should not have to think, am I going to marry a boy or a girl? Children today face enough sexual confusion without adding that. When it comes to raising children, most people who are pro traditional marriage believe that two men can not replace 1 good mother’s role in a (boy or girl) child’s development, and believe two women can not replace 1 good father’s role in a (boy or girl) child’s development. I don’t think two men could replace my mother and give me the things my mother gave me, and I don’t think two women could replace my father and give me the things my father gave me, and that’s how most of the people who are against gay marriage feel. Thinking men and women both have different, but equally important qualities, is legit. The argument is some homosexuals believe in same sex marriage, since gays are discriminated against they feel we should redefine marriage, because they feel it is their civil right to have their relationships honored in the law, they use Loving vs. Virginia (the 1967 supreme court case where interracial marriage was legalized) as a point of reference, and they feel not giving it to them is a violation of their civil rights, but the same argument could be said for Muslims and polygamy. Some Muslims believe in polygamy, since Muslims are discriminated against should we redefine marriage to where polygamy is legal for consenting adults, because they feel it is their civil right to have their relationships honored in the law, they use Loving vs. Virginia as a point of reference, and they feel not giving it to them is a violation of their civil rights? When people use the separate but equal Loving vs. Virgina case, as an argument to pervert the definition of marriage of man and wife, to man and man or woman and woman, what’s to stop people from using the same argument to deviate further to man, woman and woman or woman, man and man? The legitimacy of the arguments heterosexuals and homosexuals, have against polygamy in consenting adults, are equivalent to the legitimacy of arguments heterosexuals who are against same sex marriage have. Heterosexuals who are against same sex marriage can be labeled hateful bigots, and as having an irrational fear of homosexuals (homophobic) and by the same logic, the same way, homosexuals and heterosexuals who do not support polygamy can be labeled hateful bigots, and as having an irrational fear of polygamists, the labels in both cases are equivalent in their validity or lack thereof. There was a church in California covered on CNN that gay protesters were going after because they would not marry 2 homosexuals, a couple months before prop 8 passed. People that are against same sex marriage recognize that if gay marriage is legalized in the United States nationwide, Church’s will be legally required to marry gay couples or they can be sued, loose their licenses and loose their tax exempt status. Teacher’s who teach Human development will be legally required to include gay sex in their curriculum, even if they don’t believe in it, or they’ll loose their job, both instances would be reprehensible. People say same sex marriage is none of straight people’s business, but both of those cases are very much the business of heterosexuals. For those of you who want to just resort to name calling and personal insults, (because I present a respectful, civil, and legitimate argument) without articulating a response, just leave your stupid comment and move on. This is adressing a slanted opinion Judith D, if you read the whole thing you would realize this has to do with the future of everyone No church has been forced to marry homosexuals. You can get a license in court. The issue was that they denied business for a commitment ceremony, not a marriage. because It hasn't been legalized nationwide yet If you bring up the argument of children... you are might as well ban having children outside of marriage, because you're saying the exact same thing. I never suggested banning having children outside of marriage, you did You're against the relationship itself, that's your problem and why you are a bigot. You might as well make being gay illegal... which you can't do, since sex of any type between two consenting adults is their own business. Your putting words in my mouth just the way you put artificial facts in your head "If you're neighbors were gay, how would it make any difference to you if they were married or not." Once again I did not suggest that you did I mentioned marriage not the unmarried "People use the same arguments against interracial marriage that were used 50 years ago. (God didn't intend the races to mix... to be short... the argument was)" and you are using the same argument muslims who believe in poligamy can use, I notice you ignore most of the post that refutes your Loving vs. Virginia argument “A lot of your points are simply unsupported” by homosexuals “In my view, marriage should be between two consenting adults, preferably those who actually love each other. Take all the religious aspects out of gay marriage and make it a union.” That is your view “3. Gays cannot propagate: First off, we are decreasing in fertility rates as determined by the availability of resources. People will mate with a lot of resources and won't when resources are limited. By 2050, the population is expected to reach about 9 to 11 billion people. “ “We need less people to mate.“ What you’re suggesting is counterproductive to the human race “Furthermore, should all other heterosexuals who can't mate such as steril individuals or people with deleterious genes (such as Huntingtons) be prohibited from marriage? We allow those people to freely marry even if there would be a problem with their genes.” I never suggested all heterosexuals who can't mate such as steril individuals or people with deleterious genes (such as Huntingtons) be prohibited from marriage, you did “3. Gays cannot be an ideal family: The divorce rates in this country are up to 50 percent. Until we make marriage permanent, then citing anything that gays cannot make as good of a family as a straight family is ridiculous.” Ridiculous to you, and people who share your skewed views and demands “4. Gays will ruin the sanctity of marriage: What about Anna Nicole, Britney Spears, Bristol Palin...what are the legitimacies of their marriages or near marriages? And for that fact, how will someone elses marriage “ When the definition of marriage is changed it is not just the gay definition, it’s the definition for everyone in the united states “ruin your marriage?” There was no mention of “ruin” in my post Ultimately, gays just want to be recognized and receive all the benefits that heterosexual couples receive. They don't want to ruin your marriage. Fine, call it civil unions and not marriage, my marriage is between a man and a woman, and they are trying to pervert that “They don't want to make laws making people marry animals.” How is polygamy between consenting human adults, related to animals? And when did I mention animals? “You were talking about a commitment ceremony, which all they wanted to do was lease the land their church owned, which they do to hetero couples as well, the problem was they broke a law by denying them because they were gay. A Catholic church can refuse to marry someone of a different belief, no one is forcing ANY church to marry anyone.” That should still be a violation of the freedom of religion “You can't tell me it's okay for people to be gay and you simply don't want them to be married. You'd be lying if you don't approve of their relationship.” (Once again I did not suggest that you did) And you could actually share what you think there instead of saying that's not what you suggested, though whether two people are married or not doesn't change how you live your life.” So since you don’t believe in polygamy in consenting adults, does that make you bigoted against Muslims who believe in polygamy? “Loving v. Virginia was deemed unconstitutional due to restriction on race. My point is that your religion does not make the laws of a secular nation. Just because your god doesn't approve of something, doesn't mean you're going to impede on the rights of others. That's exactly why slavery existed. It was okay, because we never gave them rights in the first place. Our God never approved of enslaving another race, our God never disapproved of interracial marriage, people did. ”The rights of a minority should never be voted on by the majority.” Christians are not considered minorities but Muslims are considered minorities, And once again you ignore how I pointed out that race and gender are not the same Separate is not equal, we already know that. The real problem is that we are a secular nation, not a theocracy. Your religion doesn't make our laws. That's what you're talking about when you say perversion. So are boy scouts and girls scouts separate but equal as well? When I say pervert, I mean the dictionary definition of “to lead astray” “Maybe you just don't want to drink from the same water fountain as gays, so you rather give them a separate water fountain.” That’s laughable, considering I never said that, and what would you know about drinking from a separate fountain? “Race and gender are not the same, but sexism and racism are both bigotry. Christians are the majority by numbers, but as I said, the majority doesn't get to make whatever laws they please to enforce on everyone else.” I made a point by saying I think men and women both have different, but equally important qualities, you are trying to say that either man or woman is not important, so by your logic, it is you were are sexist and by the same logic, in all fairness, you must believe Muslims who believe in polygamy should be able have polygamy legalized in the untied states, otherwise you are a hypocrite. So suddenly your marriage is not special to you anymore because gays can marry too? And no, boy scouts and girl scouts are not equal, boy scouts don't allow gays and atheists into their organization. Gay’s can not nationally marry yet, and so your saying any type of club just for men, where there is the same type of club for just for women is separate but not equal? ”Just seems to me you think if you're sharing something with people who you deem as less than yourself somehow ruins it for you.” Well it seems to me that you don’t know your @ss from you elbow, especially when you bring up drinking from a “gays” only fountain, or being made to sit in the front or the back of the bus for that matter. I still bet you can't honestly say it's okay for someone to be gay, just not okay for them to marry. Being gay is your choice, it’s your right, gay’s don’t “marry” because under the definition it is marriage is still a union between a man and a woman It took you and hour and a half to come up with that crap? I still bet you can't honestly say it's okay for Muslims to practice polygamy legally in the United States I'm willing to share marriage as it is defined, so if you want to marry someone of the opposite sex, i'm all for it
How quickly after marriage do you get a physical piece of paper as proof? I'm leaving for Navy boot camp in just over a month and I am looking to get married fast. However, I have many documents to change my name on which need proof of marriage. I'm looking to find out if you get to keep your marriage license or some other legal proof on the day of the marriage. I live in New York State, but not in the NYC.
What is the case against gay marriage in the United States? I am in full support of gay marriage. I believe that gays should be entitled to all of the same rights as straights. What I want to know is an informed case against gay marriage. Arguing for gay marriage here is redundant. Also, If you are for gay marriage and have beliefs of why people are opposed to it, try and hold your tongue. I want responses from people who are actually opposed to it. Thank you.
What if marriage licenses were done away with and gays were allowed to marry by private institutions? Kind of a libertarian idea to abolish marriage licenses(as they are seen as a power grab by the state) and allow marriage to be a social contract between two people and not a public contract the government should be involved in. I am not trying to argue that point one way or another. Let us pretend that this was the way it is right now. If gays were married by a church or whatever else the same way straight people are, should they be honored? I guess the question title was a bit misleading but hopefully enough get it.
How is marriage and married life represented through the media? I would just like some Ideas for a case study I am pulling together, through print, broadcast etc of how marriage is represented. Is there any websites that could help me? Or your personal ideas on different shows such as gavin and stacey and how the represent marriage
What are the biblical requirements for a marriage? Why do Christians think that a legal government document is necessary for a biblical marriage? There are no verses requiring a marriage certificate from the government (legal marriage) Also, there is no requirement for a marriage ceremony in the Bible. So, is sex the only requirement for consummating a marriage, besides telling others that you are married? For example, some cultures outside the Jewish culture did not have wedding ceremonies. That did not make them any less married than Jewish couples.
Can the government downgrade your marriage to a civil union? If the government wants everyone to be equal but is not willing to grant civil marriage to gays and lesbians, could they just change all marriage licenses to civil unions? Would this be a fair compromise? If not, then why is it fair to give civil unions to gay couples and marriage to straight couples? Does this different status create a second class or a "separate-but-equal" situation? ***Edit*** @Phoenix Quill: Should infertile couples, elderly couples, couples that adopt, and couples that do not plan on having kids only be granted civil unions? If adoptive parents get marriages even though they have not procreated, then why shouldn't gay couples who raise children?
How uneducated are people who think that gay marriage will lead to men marrying animals? An animal can't consent to marriage. A child can't consent to marriage. A corpse can't consent to marriage. Marriage with an immediate family member can produce birth defects for the children; gay marriage does not do this. Why is this so complicated for so many people? Sources: nearly every single time someone posts about gay marriage, you have someone writing about how it will lead to people marrying farm animals! Dumb!
Why do homosexuals insist on marriage when they have domestic partnership? I'm curious as to why homosexuals are making such a fuss about "marriage". I did a little research on Domestic Partnerships on wikipeda, which I realize is not the best place to do research, but ehh.. I notice there are a couple of things marriages recognize that domestic partnerships don't, but overall it doesn't seem all that different. Why don't homosexuals go with that? I'm asking this simply out of curiosity; I do not support gay marriage, but I don't consider myself homophobic or anything of the nature.
What place does marriage have in the next decade? Parenting without marriage appears to have become acceptable, as has participating in sexual liberties free from stigmas of past generations. Society functions, and families are still families. What purpose, then, does marriage serve now? Grit, can you not commit without marriage? Seriously.
How does the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 not violate the constitution? In the defense of marriage act, it says: No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) needs to treat a relationship between persons of the same sex as a marriage, even if the relationship is considered a marriage in another state. But the constitution says that legal agreements or arrangements made in other states must be recognized in other states. So how is this legal?
How to do marriage ceremony based on Chinese tradition? Hi all, I and my boyfriend are planning on marriage, but we confuse about the tradition. We are both Chinese. Anybody knows about the arrangement, start from proposing, family gathering, until the day of marriage and what should we prepare? we also live at different city. Oh, we are going to have only a simple ceremony. Thanks for the answer.
What is the definition of a recognized marriage? In some states, same-sex marriage is only recognized. I understand that means if a same-sex couple gets legally married in a state that allows it, the state who recognizes them will do just that; recognize the marriage. But what's the difference between a legal, full marriage and just a recognized marriage?

How did Joseph consummate his marriage with Mary & keep her a virgin & still manage to pump out kids with her? Jesus had 1/2 brothers & sisters according to the bible & according to Matthew 1:25 he consummated the marriage . How did Mary remain a virgin after consummation & pump out kids ? Some say Joesph was married before but that does not address the bible stating Joey consummated the marriage ,in other words had sex with Mary.
Can consummating their marriage make their marriage ok again? Can consummating their marriage make their marriage ok again? My friend is married for 2 years, living in two different states but see each other every weekend/every other weekend and have not consummated their marriage. Now he wants out and she flipped. Now she wants to try and get close to see if he changes his mind about he feels about her. Can his feelings change and now stay with her if they do consummate their marriage even though he has been telling her for 1 year now that he does not love her anymore?
How, when and why did the marriage framework or institution get formed in human society? In view of Gay and diffrent types of marriages gaining acceptance in may parts of world and with a whole variety of marriages that differ from place to place and among different community sect etc. Wonder what was the root cause or the genuine reason for formation of marriage. Is it fundamental requirement for only two people to live together? Is it some sort of a license? Is it for regulating people in mating? Is it security for delivering babies?
Why do you personally think gay marriage is illegal in most states? Is it out of religious views? Because religion and state of course are separate, right? It's the first amendment. Or is it out of personal revolt? Homosexuality disgusts some people, so in accordance gays aren't allowed to marry. So should we ban fat people from marriage too? Is marriage really a "religious right"? After all, there are legal benefits that come along with marriage. Do the religious propose they deserve these benefits more than others? Maybe this all just comes down conceit?
How can i get marriage certificate or any marriage legal proof? I married before 2 and 1/2 years, but i don't have marriage certificate. Now before 4 months my husband expired, i want any legal marriage proof or marriage certificate. Can i get marriage certificate or any other marriage legal proof? I am from India, and i am hindu.
Would a marriage of two people of different cultures could actually work out ? I'm very curious about this, if you married someone who is from a different race then you, would it be able to actually work out. Because i have this friend she is chinese and i'm vietnamese we both been really good friends with each other, we do stuff like study together and hangout and make youtube videos. But would it ever be possible for us to have a relationship together ? It would really cool if i could start a relationship or even marriage with her. Do you think it's actually possible ?
Can a marriage survive once you start looking at other people? My marriage is on the rocks he has a temper, we have been together for 4 years but I have just found that I have started to look at other guys and think of them in inappropriate ways, wanting relations with them. We have been separated for a while but I have been thinking of giving him another chance and trying to work the relationship out for our daughter. Will these other feelings go away if our relationship improves? Can it survive?
What is the advantage to dissolution of marriage in Florida? My best friend unfortunately has reached the end of marriage and does not want a long drawn out divorce procedure. Someone mentioned the term "Dissolution of Marriage" and explained that is the route he may want to go. What is a dissolution of marriage in Florida and what are it's advantages?
How do I go about finding a marriage license copy? I have heard that you can easily find a marriage license copy online and without having to pay a fee. Is this true? I would love to get a copy of my deceased parents' marriage license if I can. It would be a nice thing to frame and to keep on the wall to remember them by. So, can you find copies of marriage licenses online or is this just an urban myth?
How can our society get the foundation of families and marriage back strong? Statistically speaking marriage is way better than being single. People who are married live longer, have many tax and health benefits. Also marriage is protected by law, being single and living together is not. I know that many people don't believe in marriage anymore; however, the fact still remains that marriage is best for our lives and our economy. So how can we get marriage back strong?
What causes sexual desire to drop in a marriage? 1. What are the causes of sexual desire in a marriage? 2. How long into the marriage does the sex life start to suffer? 3. Is it possible to stay hot to your spouse after 20 years of marriage? Is it common? 4. How much does resentment play a role in diminishing sex life with your spouse? 5. How are grants effected after marriage and is there a way to avoid this? Alright so I'm military and my boyfriend is a civilian. He has a grant and we want to get married but don't want to affect his grant money. How would marriage change this and is there some way to get around this or possibly a way into marriage where we can keep our finances somewhat separate. He still lives with his parents and is going to school as of right now. We want to get married but also want him to get all of his grant money.
What is the Sanctity of Marriage that conservatives are trying to protect? Statistics show that nearly 50% of all marriages end in divorce (google it). Conservatives most famous argument against gay marriage is that they must protect the sanctity of marriage, homosexuality threatens marriage and families...so if half of those who make lifelong commitments to each other in front of God or a judge are lying their butts off, how is marriage so sanctimonious that it is worth denying people who are in love from getting married simply because it's not traditional?
What's the difference between marriage and Christian marriage? The question pretty much sums up what I want to know. Also please tell me the difference between high monogomy and low monogomy...and traditional and untraditional. Has there been any studies done to suggest any "type" or religious background suggests a longer or shorter marriage?
who is authorized to do a marriage counseling in the philippines? my boyfriend and i were planning to have our civil wedding before i go to u.s this January. i am 18 years old and i heard that we need to attend a marriage counseling before having our marriage license. i just wanted to know who is the authorized person to be consulted in having our marriage counseling?
What were the dynamics of marriage in the 19th century? I know that women had few legal rights but what kind of unofficial roles did women and men have in marriage. Did women really obey their husbands? Did husbands really command their wives? Was it very different from modern marriages or essentially similar?
What encourages people to wait until marriage to have sex? There are plenty of people who decide to wait to have sex with their partners until marriage and I just don't understand the reasons. If people are in a close-caring relationship, what is the point of waiting until after you have made a strong commitment, such as marriage, to express it?
Why are Islamic people so against marriage to people of other religions? What will happen, in regards to Islamic law if a Muslim boy wants to marry a girl from another religion. What is happening in Australia these days? Most cases I've heard- the other person is asked/ made to convert for the marriage to be legal (in Islam). What regard is given to the other person's religion and what about a marriage being recognized as legal in Australia- regardless of what two religions are involved. What is happening in Australia? Do couples just go off and do their own thing or is there still a trend of conversion to Islam or just a wedding that doesn't happen because of parents.
What if marriage was taken out of government? Marriage is a religious event, but the gov is treating it like it's not, and turning a once beautiful thing into a contract that the wife or husband can divorce and ruin the life of the former spouse. And, there would be no gay marriage debate because marriage would not exist according to the government. And it's one way to keep the government out of our lives.
How does gay marriage affect tradition or religion? I am just wondering once again on the opinion of people for this issue/debate. I have to debate on it in class tomorrow. In my case I am against gay marriage for the debate, but I am for Civil Unions. I don't think the ppl that are gay should get the title, because they already have C.U.'s. Also, this can affect the tradition of people that don't want it, ect... How would you solve this issue, according to my case? -if you can please use statistics and information you know to be against the issue/debate.
When Filling out the marriage date on my petition for spouse, what is the marriage date? In vietnam, before i can marry in the catholic church i have to get a marriage certificate from vietnam. How can I get my pastor to support traditional marriage? My pastor is a fundamentalist Baptist preacher. He's a big believer in traditional marriage when it comes to other people, but a huge hypocrite when it comes to himself. CASE IN POINT: My pastor has an 11-year-old daughter. She has a perfect frame for lifting heavy loads and plowing fields. A 74-year-old member of our church is widowed and quite wealthy. He offered to purchase my pastor's daughter as a slave, and also for breeding purposes. But instead of supporting traditional marriage, my pastor called the police on this poor old man. How can I get my pastor to support traditional marriage as it was practiced in biblical times?
How many gay marriage ceremonies have been performed in Mass in Catholic Churches? It seems like the only thing anyone can say in opposition to gay marraige is that it would force churches to perform those ceremonies. OK, we have a great test to see if that's actually an issue. 1. Mass legalized gay marriage. 2. Catholic church is opposed to gay mariage 3. How many gay marraiges have been forced on the Catholic Church in Mass? That's Massachusetts....not the act of Mass http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak4XBWPKbNNV26EcHYRSlLnsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090215190121AA91TPN Scroll down a little and you see this exact claim. This is about the 10th time I've seen it on here... It can't possibly happen RLP as everyone else on here knows. Churches can marry whoever they want and sure as heck can have denominational limits on who they marry. The answer is ZERO of course.
How do marriage laws in the European Union work? Suppose, for instance, a Polish woman living in Britain wants to marry an Englishman. Could they both get married in the UK, and then their marriage would automatically be recognized in Poland, too? Are European Union member states required to recognize marriages of couples in other member states? And what about countries like Spain and the Netherlands who have same-sex marriage? Would married couples be allowed to live together as a couple in Latvia?
What is your stance on gay marriage and what are your reasons? The rules are you cannot comprise your reason with any religious logic. When I say marriage I am speaking of the cut and dry laws that would surround the subject. This means I also don't want answers that just say "Because its gross!". In addition I've also found many trying to give me the cut and dry no by stating that it would create tax loopholes. Reality: A man and a woman could create the same loopholes just as easily so none of that thank you very much. Procede in your answering. I am trying to look at this from a fair unbiased prospective and so far I can't come up with any reasons why gay marriage shouldn't be legal. If you can make a fair arguement otherwise, I welcome your answer. I'm not saying anyone's religion is wrong ,but it shouldn't play a part in the legalities of the situation. If Athiests are allowed marriage, why not gays? This is the arguement used for why marriage is a sacred bond between man and wife ,but marriage ,whether you like it or not, is a legal oath taken by two individualsa and by law is not influence by religion. This is my reasoning for trying to exclude religious viewpoints. I am being very unbiased. It is unbiased because too many people would like to passionify their answer to make a big deal about it. I'm simply stating to use raw logic without emotion. This means I'm asking you to also be unbiased. Its like saying "Chocolate is better than vanilla". This cannot be proven ,but anyone can have an opinion on the subject. Its just that; I don't want opinions. I want cold hard facts and logic. The difference between gay couples and sex predators is that they are acting willingly on both sides. Yes, there is gay rape and that is a crime ,but two people of consenting age going into that situation is nothing more than sex whether it be gay or straight. I bet many people think that morbidly obese people having sex is "gross" ,but I'm pretty sure there have been no rallies to keep them from marrying. Get it? There are many straight couples that are unable to reproduce. Just a tip, I'm not gay or anything like that. I'm just looking for a logical answer for the LAW side of this situation. Whether a couple marries or not they will probably still be together so lets speak in hypothetical terms. Say we're speaking in terms of calling gays birds and straights bees.(just sticking with the classic format here) I can fully understand not liking something ,but I'm about doing what is right without the "like factor" involved. For example: I don't like pickles ,but I'm not going stop anyone else from eating them.
What if any are the secular arguments against polyamorous marriage? One of the predicted outcomes in the slippery slope argument against gay marriage is that it will lead to multiple-partner marriages. I don't want to debate the logic of the slippery slope, as that has been hashed and rehashed. I am curious as to the secular benefits or drawbacks that would follow from allowing groups of more than 2 people to be counted as one marriage.
How would a gay marriage in California work? My gf's sister and her partner just got engaged recently, and they're planning a wedding next year. We live in CA, and as you know, Prop 8 has passed and gay marriage is not legal. Yet, they're still planning on getting married HERE on the sandy beaches of San Diego, so how would this work? Is it going to be legit with paperwork and such, I don't understand how this will play out... I'm real excited for them, I wish it were easier.
What makes gay marriage different from straight marriage, fundamentally speaking? I was reading Pinker's discussions on government in "The Blank Slate", and I had an epiphany on the psychological motives for marriage. Let me know if you feel I'm wrong please, but it's the right to property and inheritance. The comfort in life with knowing that your stuff is protected even after death, that people can't kill you off just to take your stuff. That you've got someone to back you up in the case you stop living. I think there's a minor paradox with marriage with no kids because what happens when both partners die? But I think that has got be one of our instinctual needs: the need to inherit or own our property even after death. Do you think this is off base? Honestly, what's wrong with consensual bigamy? Would it lower the divorce rate?
What happens when a marriage is entered into for a Green Card? My friend married a girl from the Phillipines several years ago, and she arrived in the country earlier this year. Since that time, my friend has become increasingly isolated, and I fear he is being verbally and mentally abused by her. I suspect the marriage to have been contrived by her as a means to get into the US. My friend is disabled by mental and physical impairments, and would have easily been led down the matrimonial path by a person of moderate intelligence. What can be done now to show the girl only married him to gain entry to the US?
What is the difference between sanctity of marriage and a civil union? Do gay couples want either/or? Does marriage give you the same rights as a civil union? My thinking is that marriage is done in churches by ministers, pastors, priests. And a civil union is done by a judge in a court house or at the couples home or else where. Am I right? Please tell me the differences and what gay couples want?
What happens to your marriage live during the holidays? This year we travelled a lot, but practically never had time alone. We went almost a week without sex until hubby got me in a bathroom during some down time hehe. Essentially during busy holidays like this we act more like a consortium and less like a marriage, unfortunately. How about you?
What type of psychology is marriage and family under? I am at USF getting my BA in psychology. My main goal is to get my PhD in marriage and family psychology. I know there are many types of groups of psych like clinical, experimental, etc. What I want to know is what group of psych does marriage and family fall under? I am trying to look at different school for my graduate program and I want to make sure they offer what I am going for.
What is the process to make our marriage recognized by the Catholic church? I am agnostic and my fiance is Catholic. We have agreed on not marrying in the church; however, it is important to my fiance that our marriage is recognized by the Catholic church. We are also having a good friend get a one day marriage license to marry us and not a Catholic priest. Does a Catholic priest need to marry us to make the marriage official? I was thinking that we could do a separate private ceremony if that is what it takes....ideas?
How should a woman prepare herself for marriage? I'm nearly graduating college and obtaining my degree within a year, I've had a lot of professional work experience and am very good at networking, yet have hopes of wanting to be ready for marriage. What are other things that I can make sure to have covered before marriage? Just to be 'overqualified' per se.
How many people here believe that the marriage vows should be honored and fulfilled? To the best extent one can possibly do? And when should one break that vow for better or worse in sickness and health till death do us part? (See my question on my marriage if you'd like.) Just because one spouse does wrong repeatedly, and all options the spouses can think of have been exhausted (like counseling, trying to make things right with the offender who doesn't care and keeps criticizing or fighting), does that mean it's morally or ethically right then for someone to break her side of the marriage agreement/contract?
How long before a marriage proposal is in order? I have been living with my boyfriend about a year and a half. We have been together for a few months more than that. We are very close and open with one another. We are young... (22 and 26) but we are both mature and have decent jobs. We talk about marriage often and we both want to marry each other. My brother recently made some off the cuff comments to him about how long he is taking. Should I be expecting him to step up soon?
What are your opinions on a sexless marriage? I'm single, never married. But I've read so many questions and answers about married people complaining about how disastrous their sex lives are. What are your opinions on a sexless marriage? How important is sex in a marriage?
Did pro gay marriage activists agree to have a vote on the issue? They obvioulsy did and never expected the outcome in California. Now that marriage is banned they are crying foul. Maybe they should listen to the people and how we define marriage as a society. They remind me of people that bet on a 'guaranteed' winner in sports. When that team loses, they refuse to pay. Marriage was never a civil right, and never will be.
What is the Christian position about the marriage of people who have no clear gender? Some people are born with gender ambiguity - they show signs of both male and female sex organs. Since I've heard from many Christians that Christianity considers marriage "only between a man and a women," where would these people stand? Would gender not matter in this situation and only the love between two people? Or are these people excluded from marriage?
How do you keep your marriage happy and amazing after sever years have past? I'm planning on getting married soon. I've found the love of my life and am the luckiest man in history to have this woman; however, I'm not naive, and know that as the years roll on, things can sometimes grow old and a complacency can set in. I believe a couple has to remain proactive to possess a marriage which thrives. Can any married couples give any sound, practical advice??
Who agrees that Vermont's legalization of gay marriage via the legislature was a huge blow to conservatives? Who agrees that Vermont's legalization of gay marriage via the legislature was a blow to conservatives who scream "activist judges" whenever a state court legalizes gay marriage? Now they can't whine about activist judges in Vermont, since this was done by the people's elected representatives. Of course, the more important question now is: who will the conservatives blame now since they don't have the "activist judges" to pick on?
How does divorce affect the sincerity of marriage vows? Recently I asked how same sex marriages destroyed the institution of marriage and 1 answer pointed out that divorce is more damaging to the validity of marriage than same sex marriage. Do you agree that divorces are easy to get and that marriage does not mean a union for life. That then invalidates the oath you take to your partner and God.
What is the final official documentation of marriage in New York? If not, could anyone provide me the full name of the final official documentation. Thanks.

The man and woman were together for the past 9 years living in Georgia. They have a house together under both of their names, etc. The man, or her "husband" and she calls him, died recently. She is wondering what her rights are? Is she entitled to all of his remaining property if he did not have a will?

Can a common law marriage from Texas be legally recognized in Louisiana? My fiance and I just got a declaration of informal marriage from the county clerks office here in Texas. His job is based out of Louisiana and they are telling us that because they don't recognize common law marriages they can't add me to his insurance. I read up on Texas common law and found out it's as legal as a real marriage, if we split we'd have to go through a divorce and everything. So shouldn't it be recognized as legally binding in other states?

How did Gay Marriage get mixed in with the important issues? Sorry, gay people, that the only non-gays who care about this issue are adamantly against gay marriage. While the rest of us just don't want to look like homophobes so we pretend to have an opinion while we really don't care what you do in your spare time, and don't particularly want to know.

What does dreaming of marriage mean if everything is perfect? I dreamed that I was getting married to my fiancee'. Everything in the service was beautiful and how it should be. Our daughter was older and everything. Nothing was wrong with the service. The only strange thing was my father whom I am very close with who is deceased was there. There were no tensions between us or anything. I have heard that dreaming of marriage means a death? But what type of death? One inside my immediate, one that I knew about, or one that will come soon?

What are the drawbacks for one partner in a marriage filing for bankruptcy? My marriage partner is not willing to file for bankruptcy, as I am. I have debt in my name that I am wanting to be expunged. I am not working, and I only have a few monthly bills (i.e. cell phone, cable) in my name. Is it better to proceed and try to have my debt discharged, or to wait and see if he will be willing to file later down the road- together?
Would the marriage between a Cannibal and a Vegetarian be able to work? BEFORE you report me . Heres why I ask. My sister met a guy that is some kinda Africa Prince. How would a society without marriage work? I've talked to a few people recently who don't think marriage works. While my parents have had a good marriage, I know a lot of people haven't. So my questions are;a) without marriage, how would society raise children, and b) is marriage flawed, or do flawed people destroy marriages?
Is a pre-immigration marriage between two resident aliens who live in the US considered valid in California? Ok, here's the situation. -A husband and wife were married in Venezuela at the ages of 20 and 21 before they came to the US, specifically California. -Both are resident aliens legally residing in Northern California with all the proper documentation. -After 25 years of marriage, they have begun to seriously consider divorce. -Both have substantial assets, including a home. They have 3 children together, all born in this country. They have all the accouterments of normal US citizens minus the citizenship. Do California marriage laws still apply to them if they wanted to legally seperate considering they aren't citizens and were married before they even set foot in this country?

How can you prove no marriage occurred between two people? I have this lady I know, and she's involved in some legal issues, and the court has repeatedly stated she was married to this other person, but she was not. They refuse to look into this themselves. Is there any way to force the court to investigate this or is there some document you can obtain proving that no marriage between two individuals ever occurred? Any help with this tricky question would be greatly appreciated as I am no lawyer myself. I saw something called "Certificate of No Public Marriage" but I'm not sure if this would do the trick?
What accreditation does it take to become a family/marriage counselor? Member since: March 28, 2006 Total points: 562 (Level 2) Points earned this week: --% Best answer lilmissy S What accreditation to become a family/marriage counselor? I want to become a family/marriage counselor. I'm working on a bachelor of psychology now. I don't have the time to become a licensed psychologist, I just want to work with hurting children and families. I've heard some people say it takes hours (approx. 2000) of clinical work before you can become licensed. How is it then that pastors have clergy licenses and are able to counsel people. I'm wondering if it would be easier to get a theology degree and counsel through a church. Any suggestions?
