Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or the Start-up of a New Business Venture? Currently, I am 18 years old and I am enrolled in an undergraduate program, Honours Bachelor of Commerce (4 years, finance major). I am wondering if it is worth it to drop out of my program to start up a new business venture from scratch. The business idea I have in mind is opening a tea shop/cafe in my local neighborhood where there is a high consumer base because it would be marketed to all ages and during all seasons. I have a clear logical sense of how small businesses work in Canada from the abundance of high school business courses and plentiful amounts of leisure reading (business guides, inspirational authors, informational how-to's). My plan is to resign from my Finance program and work in the retail industry (personal preference since my venture IS in retail catering) for 4 consecutive years to earn an initial investment in order for the start up. I know this may be a huge impact on my future since I will be lacking a Bachelor's degree but I am sure there are many benefits as well such as the work experience I would be gaining in the span of 4 years, more than any bachelor graduates. Please, anyone with opinion, knowledge, experience in the entrepreneurship field, contribute to my curiosity and perseverance. Thanks. P.S. Plans, if all else fails: Plan B - with a head start, continue working in the retail industry with a high school diploma and advance into management positions Plan C - Enroll in college for more hands-on work and education related in retail such as Bartending or Catering services Plan D - after going through B or C, work towards starting another business Plan E - Investment opportunities with income

Why do Conservatives go on and on about innovation and entrepreneurship, then complain about Financial Aid for? college students. When we say we need new businesses, that doesn't mean more jack-wads starting swimming pool and paving companies. This economy needs educated people who can create new business models that will create new wealth, not little half-assed operations that will do nothing but sap existing wealth from the economy. There were several ranting in here earlier about Financial Aid for college students.

HELP! College student STUCK between information systems and small business/ entrepreneurship? So I just recently decided to change my major to business, I realized electrical engineering wasn't what I wanted to do. What I want to do: create my own business that advises companies (small or large) on the newest technology, present their options based on a budget; and services beyond that which have not come to me yet. I have a passion for technology and I WILL find a way to monetize that passion so I never really have to have a J.O.B. Now I grabbed a pamphlet in his office about information systems. It does sound like what I would like to do, but in the other sense, I would like to focus on the track of small business/ entrepreneurship. You can only do one of the two in the business program at my school. I am pretty set on staying with small business/ entrepreneurship, but I know for a fact that the information systems would benefit me tremendously. I however have a feeling that I don't want to take that path because I feel like it's too limiting and I am not cool with that. What exactly is information systems, do you think I would better be suited sticking with small business/ entrepreneurship since I know I want to work with consumer technology, just not exactly WHAT yet. Information systems put a name on something I wanted to do, but I feel like I already have a passion and hobby for electronics, why take the class when I could know a lot of the stuff already? Thanks
President Obam said he wants more financial aid for college but business students are denied. Why? If we want job creation, Why does the government discriminate against business majors? The SMART Grant (National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent) provides $4000 per academic year to Pell Grant-recipients who are majoring in math, science, computer science, or engineering. It covers most all majors except business majors such as business management and business entrepreneurship. It takes a lot of mathematics to start and run a successful company. Shouldn’t the scope of this grant be enlarged to cover the people that will start, and run the new businesses that will hire the engineers, chemist, computer techs, etc.?

Why does Obama demonize private enterprise, just as FDR did as a way to present government as the great savior? Now, think about this. If there is a way out of the recession, it will have to be provided by private enterprise. It will come by new businesses, business expansions, entrepreneurship, new technology, and this will be the source of lasting jobs and prosperity. You cannot make a country rich by looting taxpayers and paying people to pound nails into siding at public schools! These activities amount to capital consumption. They are not sources of investment. You can say that they are stupid tasks or wonderful tasks, but it is not a matter of ideology as to whether such public projects will make us all wealthier. They will not. They drain the sources of wealth from society. They represent a cost, not a blessing.
Should I include my entrepreneurship experience in my resume? Why did Romney lie about the amount of new businesses being started? n an interview with Larry Kudlow on CNBC, Mitt Romney falsely claimed that the number of start-up businesses decreased under President Obama: “Larry, the number of new business start-ups has dropped by 100,000 a year under President Obama, and that’s costing us a lot of jobs.” - Mitt Romney. he facts, once again, refute Romney’s claim. Americans are creating more businesses now than before the recession: - The number of start-up businesses in 2009, 2010, and 2011 is higher than it was at the end of the Bush administration. - That entrepreneurship rate is more than 5 percent higher than pre-recession levels. Last year, 3.2 of every 1,000 adults created a business. The growing number of new businesses reflects President Obama’s commitment to supporting small businesses and his belief that they are the “cornerstones of America’s promise.” That’s why he has signed 18 small business tax cuts to help small business invest, offer health care, and hire. His administration also extended a record $30.5 billion in loans to more than 60,000 small businesses in the 2011 fiscal year, including $5.8 billion in loans to more than 16,000 start-up businesses. And earlier this month, the President signed the JOBS Act, making it easier for start-ups and small businesses to raise funds and eventually go public. By contrast, under Romney’s leadership in Massachusetts, Bay Staters saw their jobs shipped overseas. When it comes to business creation, there’s a clear difference between President Obama’s and Romney’s records. So, Why is Mitt Romney lying about Obama... Again?

One citizens idea to fix the US economy!? I just heard about a letter writer in Ft lauderdale Florida that was writing into the newspaper about how the US can fix the economy as efficiently as possible. Here is his plan. He states that there is over 40 million Americans over 50 years still in the workforce, he propose giving all those working Americans 1 million dollars they would have to sign a contract with these stipulations. 1. You have to immediately retire opening up 40 million jobs... unemployment solved 2. Cannot take any Social Security... SS is now solvent for future generation 3. Have to order a new vehicle 40 million new vehicle... US auto industry fixed, less gasoline needed with all the new fuel efficient vehicles. 4. They would have to either pay off their mortgage or buy a new home..mortgage crisis solved. 5. With all this extra money new business and entrepreneurship would take off creating more jobs and wealth. All this accomplish with a price tag of 400 billion dollars a lot less than our government is spending now on the economy without any results. This was just ordinary citizens throwing ideas around and just had me thinking mmmm. maybe we need ideas from regular people instead of the elites, anyone else think is a good or bad idea and why! Pfo you are correct my math is off so his yours it is 40 trillion I still think the principle is sound how is giving Americans the ability to circulate and create wealth worse that letting the government spend the same money if you are old enough and have enough life experience you will know that is just pouring money down a big rat hole. David H do you read? or have comprehension? 40 million people with a million dollars and you are asking how are they going to afford homes or cars? Robot ho ..even if only 15 million people are qualified for the 40 million new jobs you still eliminate unemployment. We had a cash for clunkers and it spured new car purchase your objections about not needing a car or parking is trivial for people with that amount of income, but you have good point though.
What software do I need if I'm going to be a business major? So my laptop died and I need a new one. Since I'm going away to college next year I figured I had better choose a laptop that would be suited both for college life and for my major (Business, Entrepreneurship). I would love to have a Macbook, but it seems silly to spend so much money on a computer, especially if it might not have all the programs I would need. I know there is Office for the Macbook, but I don't think it comes with programs like Access. Would I need any programs besides the MS Office basics? Additionally, I was looking at Netbooks. They are small, light, and cheap. Are there any that come built with Vista or the latest version of Windows (I can't remember the name)? Please, useful answers only.

How can ANY politician say that the government will or can create jobs?...? Unless of course it is a new GOVERNMENT job for which we the people pay more taxes to fund...and a government worker does not produce a PRODUCT of value that can be sold or consumed...What if the government got out of the way...less regulations and taxes...to free-up the spirit of entrepreneurship that thrives in our country so new businesses can spring up, grow and hire new employee / taxpayers...what the government lawmakers can do is get out of the way to create an environment where this can happen! Where is this line of thinking wrong?

If suppliers of unique, new products offer local distribution rights without investment, will it interest you? If not, what are your top 3 reasons why you won't consider? Please reply ONLY if you are looking for a job or entrepreneurship opportunities. This is NOT an offer but just to understand why ordinary people looking for jobs or small business opportunities don't consider these kinds of opportunities, which can earn on-going income for mostly one time effort. It involves only some effort and no risks. One can earn $2,000 to $10,000 a month from this, if one is resourceful. Incidentally, distribution of products is a high margin activity, which normally requires investment, and only local big players get into it.
What should I study in Business?? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Hi guys, I have done piano performance for 13 years and finished one year university and quit. I thought I should do any sorta of business course to get a good-money career. I also have an idea of doing my own business in the future when I have enough fund. What should I study in University? What qualification would be recognised and/or beneficial for me after 3 years of study to get a job that pays me fortune? I am also curious about Information System Technology course. What do they actually learn and what can they do after graduate? I am good with computers and people come to me to gain new information and stuff. I am also interested in science. but Time and Money won't allow me to study space science for example... I'm creative and work well. I do well anything that's given to me to do... :S I am thinking about Accounting&Finance / International business/ HR management/ Entrepreneurship. I thought about Management and Marketing as well but it seems rather dull. Or am I completely wrong? I looked through all the books and it talks about all the common sense that most of people would be able to do without the education. I have been offered bachelor of tourism - Event management/Marketing but decided not to accept it because it's too vocational, and it would be hard to get a job ( and pay would be low compare to others...).. I also have been offered Entrepreneurship+French. I also love learning languages. I speak 4 languages- English Korean Japanese French. I think whatever study I choose in the field, it will be definitely helpful for my future business plan. I have about 2 weeks of time to apply more university.. Any opinions?????????!!!!!!!!!!!

please help me solving this assignment...!! :( tomorowz d last date !!? Background: Entrepreneurship is the process of starting a new business in an innovative way by taking risk and making investment while an entrepreneur is a person who owns and operates that business and spends his efforts, time and capital on an uncertain venture. Many individuals have difficulty in bringing their ideas to the market and creating a new venture. Yet entrepreneurship and the actual entrepreneurial decisions have resulted in several million new businesses being started throughout the world successfully. The Case: In September 2011, Hira Zaffar left the Pearl Continental as a Quality food manager, she was thrilled at finally receiving the contract for the official cafeteria of Pace with the name of “Executive Lounge”. Hira was MBA graduate of the Punjab University in 2008. She was employed as a quality food manager since 2010 in PC but unfortunately her experience with the job was not very rewarding which convinced her that she should set up her own business where she could be more experimental and have the freedom and flexibility to work with her new ideas. She was much determined to launch her own restaurant so she presented her business proposal in front of Pace management which was approved later during that year. Issues: Q1. Being an entrepreneur how Ms. Hira should pursue this business opportunity by keeping in view the location and customer type and how this Executive Lounge restaurant should look like? Q2. What were the inspiring factors that led Hira to start her own business?

IS THIS WHAT WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO? As we begin 2010, the daily news reports tell us that the economy is on the mend and indicators are suggesting that the recession is ending. In many ways, things just seem better than at the beginning of 2009. The stock market has stabilized and rebounded. Reports tell us fewer people are losing their jobs. Other reports tell us that the economy is in the early stages of a recovery. U.S. manufacturing posts modest gains. By now, we have adjusted our expectations for the future downward and reduced our spending. And the shock of the economic meltdown which we felt so keenly in January 2009 has diminished. But it is really smooth sailing ahead? Or time to batten down the hatches? Fundamental trends are under way that could create the perfect storm for further economic disaster starting as early as 2011. Just like the weather cataclysm in the book and movie "The Perfect Storm" that wrecked the fishing boat and killed all on board, these trends threaten an economic downturn much worse than we have already suffered. Four major trends crest in 2011 which threaten to drown chances of a real recovery. First, taxes. Additional tax increases are expected to go into effect in 2011 to support health care overhaul. And the Bush tax cuts will end at the start of 2011 under budget policies already adopted by the Obama administration. After these changes, the top income tax rate including state taxes would average 52% across America. That top U.S. income tax rate would be higher than in France, Germany, Canada, and 23 other countries in the OECD. In 5 states dominated by Democrats--California, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Oregon--the total top tax rate will be higher than in socialist Sweden. Moreover, the top capital gains tax rate would soar by 66%, from 15% today to over 25%. The individual income tax on corporate dividends would also increase substantially. These increases will stifle investment, entrepreneurship, small business start-ups, business expansion, new jobs, wage and income growth, and overall economic recovery. The second factor affecting the economy in 2011 is rebound unemployment as stimulus spending declines. Whether or not the stimulus has been effective in preserving and creating jobs, even the Obama administration says that the effects of the stimulus spending will have peaked by mid-2010. Indeed, stimulus spending will likely produce a negative feedback effect on the economy by 2011. This is because every dollar in Keynesian stimulus spending takes an estimated $1.23 out of future GDP, according to many economists. Additional stimulus spending by Congress—like “Cash-for-Clunkers” may extend phantom job creation a bit longer, but would still produce negative effects as soon as it is spent out. Once the stimulus money is used up, state and local governments that used the funds to plug holes in their general operating budgets will have to cut back jobs or raise taxes substantially. And since most jurisdictions used the money to support levels of spending that were too high to begin with--rather than to build additional infrastructure, all that spending will not have increased American productivity much. Yet, we will still be paying the bill for today’s stimulus spending in the future, with higher interest costs and a larger tax burden. A similar effect will result from the Census Bureau hiring up to one million workers for the 2010 Census. Expect the unemployment rate to go up another 3 or 4 tenths of a percent when those same workers are laid off in 2011. The third trend that will crest in 2011 is inflation—from a combination of our weak dollar policy and our huge deficits. The dollar’s decline reflects incredibly loose Fed monetary policy, as the Fed expanded the money supply while maintaining record low interest rates near zero. In addition, federal debt will exceed 100% of GDP by 2011, leaving us with the 7th highest government debt-to-GDP ratio in the world, in company with countries such as Zimbabwe, Jamaica, and Lebanon. That will produce further dollar declines, and further increasing inflation. Lastly, if Congress passes any of the expensive legislation that it is contemplating, the resulting costs will be the fourth and final cause of the perfect storm. Cap-and-trade, health care, and pro-union legislation like “card check” would all result in huge expenditures and inefficiencies that the American people will be forced to bear--starting mostly in 2011. And in the case of cap-and-trade, energy production will be sharply constricted, and energy costs will rise--further contributing to inflation, while killing still more jobs and creating still more misery. The perfect storm in 2011 may bring us double digit inflation, soaring interest rates, record unemployment and a worsening recession. Prepare yourselves.
Is Los Angeles a good place to go to school? I'm a 17 year old from Suburban NY and I'm graduating high school in January. I'm going away to another suburban town for about a year to go to community college. I eventually want to transfer to a four year school and I'm looking at my options. My parents want me to stay in the northeast but I want to go away and find myself. If I was just leaving high school for Cali this January I would agree with her, but I'll almost be 19 when I transfer and I need to go out on my own someday. I like LA because it has two great entrepreneurship/business programs at USC and Loyola Marymount. What do you think about my situation? What do you think of LA for a teenage college kid from New York?

Why was the USSR so 'bad' if they helped defeat the Nazis AND new-ally China's acting in a similar manner? I'm new to politics but am interested in macro-economics and am studying on a degree course in Business Management and Entrepreneurship with a unit on European Business Environment. Why is the USSR and Communism perceived as 'evil' if everyone is offered a 'slice of the pie'-yes the taxation would be heavy and the hours fairly long, but you'd have less people sponging off of the government for benefits and little/no racism and class discrimination since everyone'd be equal? Free-market Europe and the USA should thank the USSR for helping them defeat the Nazis. The Nazi's killed 6 million Jews,2.5 million Soviets,1.9 million Poles, over 500,000 Romanis,200,000 Disabled,80,000 Freemasons,7,500 Gays and 3750 Jehovah's Witnesses ^that's over 11 MILLION PEOPLE!!! Shoudn't they be thanked for helping us defeat Hitler? Not to mention countries like Poland,Latvia,Lithuania, etc. only seemed to benefit post-USSR thanks to the EU-alone they'd be in a LOT of trouble. Also, if the USSR killed many people (please tell me who and why) and had poor human rights, what about our allies like Saudi Arabia and China? I am sure they have troubles within their countries too. Please tell me this because I am keen on learning the triumph of the free-market/ international relations.

Best UK Universities For Business Management/Entrepreneurship Degrees? I'm looking to do a business management/entreprenuership degree at university in about a year and a half's time, but I am unsure about which ones I should take a look at as so many uni's offer business courses. I'm a standard A-Level student (Predicted A's and B's), which rules out the elite, and I don't want to be more than a couple of hours from home (live in Leicestershire), which rules out Scotland, Wales and anything below London. So, any recommendations?

What major should I chose to get into social entrepreneurship? I am considering my options on what major I should chose. I am currently about to enter a community college, aiming at getting my AA then transferring to a four year college, then graduate school. During high school I privately studied philosophy, sociology, psychology, business entrepreneurship and economics. Overall my interest was analyzing the individual, society, and ultimately how they could better be joined. I always tried to stimulate my classes by encouraging them to give their input on various social issues and individual choices. Currently, which obviously will probably change as I mature, I have no intention of holding a selected career for extended periods of time. I want to be a social entrepreneur at its very core, by impacting change through entrepreneurial methods. College is to enhance my skills and life as a whole, not for the benefit of some company or as security so I can work forty years before retiring. I want to have the flexibility to pursue my own interests, which may be with non-profits, NGOs, companies, etc. I'm not as interested in race issues and poverty in America as many Sociology students seem to be. I do not want to have to take a majority of classes that don't relate to what I want to do. I am more interested in globalization, economics of foreign countries (or local not sure yet), politics, etc. If anyone has read The Drifters by James A. Michener, the narrator (forgot the name) is exactly the type of thing I would love to do. So I was thinking Sociology with a minor in Economics might be good, or vice verse. Although majoring in Economics in my opinion would get tedious very quickly. I love Philosophy but I do not see it as a wise career path so I will have to continue studying it on my own. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also I realize that to get into a position where you actually make the slightest of difference takes time and dedication. I'm asking how I can get my foot into the door of social change. I just don't want to chose a degree where ten years down the road I regret it because I found that I'm not really qualified to work with certain organizations, businesses etc.

Entrepreneurship or Business Management? I'm in high school now but I want to start my own business after going to a 4-year college. Although I don't really want to work for someone else, getting a degree in managment and a job with a large company and working my way up to a higher position (hopefully CEO or something big) would be more secure. Maybe I could open my own business later???
What's the next best MBA concentration for a small business owner if Entrepreneurship is unavailable? I'm planning on applying to grad school soon, and there's a potential that I will take over my father's small web-based company in the meantime. I'd like my education to complement my foray into small-business management. What are some good MBA concentrations that I can focus on before I apply? If I had the opportunity to make my MBA concentration curriculum unique, what courses would be ideal for a small business owner?

Can I major in philosophy; minor in business/finance, and then go to graduate school for business? Entrepreneurship and the business world really fascinate me. I love the whole idea of being financially independent; setting your own standards; working with other people; and the endless possibilities. On the other hand, I also have a passion for learning: Trying to understand life per se, and the world we live in. I think philosophy would provide a good foundation before I go into the business world. However, my concern is: Do I need a bacholar's degree in Business to get an MBA in business?
