How do I achieve a better work/life balance? I'm not very good at balancing work and life. I get really stressed out because I want to do a great job, and I don't like it when I don't achieve my goals, which admittedly are sometimes unrealistic. Meanwhile, my poor wife doesn't even recognize me anymore. How do I maintain a good balance between work and life without compromising my ability to excel in my profession.
How do I sell work / life balance to managers with an old school mentality? I’ve been selected on my job to sell the concept of work / life balance to a bunch of managers who are from the old school and think everyone needs to be in the office from 9 to 5 Monday – Friday. Even though we have employees in the office during these times, it does not equate to productivity. However based on the research I’ve done, many people are more productive when given the opportunity to work in alternate locations (telework) and schedules (compressed work week, flex-schedule). Could you help me with some suggestions on how to best sell the work / life balance concept? I want them to walk away from my presentation thinking they have no choice but to adopt this program as part of our policy. Thanks for your help!!

What strategies do you use to achieve work/life balance? Work Life Balance - how many hours do you work, should you work and how much leisure time should we have? I think most people who work full-time actually work more hours than they need to live. What are your thoughts on the amount of time you work and the amount of time you have for doing other things. Home life isn't just about family, but also friends, hobbies , chilling out, studying and learning new things. We may be bored doing nothing - but there might be more to life than just our jobs. Your thoughts in as much intimate detail as you like, please.

Work/Life balance is an issue for me at my job...? I just had a discussion with my supervisor about how life/work balance "philosophy" is not applicable to our company as "we do not have the luxury" to think this way. You should know that we have over a 50% turnover rate. It seems as though they do not encourage anyone to balance work with their outside life. I work an average of 12 hour days. Yes... I am looking for a new job. But what do you think about this? We are a young company and I agree that we all have to work hard. But does that mean giving up on your social life? Its not like I am getting paid enough for it. And even if I was... I dont know that I want to move up in a company that will strip me of my personal life. Its hard. Sometimes I feel like in order to accomplish some of my dreams I'll have to give up on others... life being a mom, wife, sister, friend, daughter, etc. I am only 24 years old. Any advice and or comments?
What's your work/life balance like as a teacher? I've been thinking about switching careers to being a teacher, but I've heard such conflicting stories about the profession. Some say it is rewarding and leaves time to pursue other interests, and others say that they spend so much time being a teacher that they don't get to spend time with their own family.
Small Business Owners- work/life balance? My question is more geared toward men, but I'll take answers from both. For throse of you that own small businesses, particuarly those in the trades- do you have a hard time with work/life balance? Do you ever take weekdays off or short vacations with your significant other? When really stressed out, do you take it out on your S/O or how do you manage to keep it separate? Has owning your own small business affected your ability to have a good relationship or marriage?

Work-life balance challenge being a mom? I'm finding it difficult to balance my work life and my home life now that I am a new mom. I've recently gone back to work full time and all of a sudden, managing my time is harder than ever. I'd like advice on how to best make use of my time at work with the same amount of work but the increasing amount of doctors appointments and general errands.
Are there any guidelines about work and private life balance? Is there any limit to how much is expected? I work for a large orgasnisation. The work load imposed upon employees is unmanageable and therefore creates high stress levels. This leads to long working hours - often 12-14 hrs plus each day, with no prospect of being paid for the time or getting it back. This is not the issue I have however. I am now in a position where my job is impacting upon my home life and health. The managers of this organisation are uninterested and appear unwilling to act upon these concerns. Where do I stand as I am fearful of making mistakes as this could lead to disciplinary proceedings, (and possibly the sack) and also of the impact that this is having upon me personally. Is there anything I can do? Very helpful answers and I take your point. However I work for a criminal justice agency andf I trained for 2 years for this job, the qualification is specific, so I am kind of pigeon holed! Beleive me I have been looking for another job and still am, but at the same time feel quite angry that I am almost being forced to leave a career I enjoy because of the bad management of my particular office.

College-Age Workers: How Do Balance a Busy Work Schedule With Poor Hours and Life? And Not Get Depressed? As a college-student working a mostly seasonal shift, I tend to get the worst hours and worst days at my coffee shop -- Usually I always close on weekends, and usually only get one day off per five, six, seven days I work. This last summer, I felt like I was only working, even though I had about 33 hours on average a week. Because I'd get home late (considered late for me, considering I always go to bed at 10) from closing at around 11, I'd sleep until about nine. I find that I dread going to work and feel like I can't do anything, that I'm counting down the hours. I put a whole lot of stress and unhappiness into any service industry job I've had. How do you balance feeling like all you do is work and sleep, and manage a liveable life in between? What mental changes can I make to enjoying life as a whole more, and not dread going to work?

How do I balance work, school, extra curricular activities and a social life? I'm in college, it's my second semester and since I made dean's list last semester I figure I'd take on extra courses. So I did. I work part time and am looking for another job ( I need the money) and I'm in two other clubs too. I love hanging out with family and friends and I have no time now. My grades are slipping and whats worse is I've been pretty sick this past month and miss some classes and work and now I'm behind. Also I've had some family emergency's these past two weeks. I'm really behind and am always exhausted and tired. How do I balance everything and now that I need a second job, how do I balance that as well?
