Better Work Life Balance Knowledge Base
How do I achieve a better work/life balance? I'm not very good at balancing work and life. I get really stressed out because I want to do a great job, and I don't like it when I don't achieve my goals, which admittedly are sometimes unrealistic. Meanwhile, my poor wife doesn't even recognize me anymore. How do I maintain a good balance between work and life without compromising my ability to excel in my profession.
Engineering or Healthcare? Pros and Cons of each? Which has a better work/life balance,? I'm trying to decide between Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or Nursing, Physician Assistant/Nurse practitioner work.. I'm interested in both fields.. however I'm really exposed to the Healthcare Industry where as with Engineering.. I don't even know if I can get any opportunities to actually see what they do on a daily basis unless I'm already 2 years in to college
How can I achieve a better work-life balance? I just got a new job and I LOVE it. I'm basically doing what I'd do in my spare time -- the only difference is that I'm getting paid to do it. So it doesn't feel like work to me. Since it doesn't feel like work, I'm working all the time. Everyone at this company works from home and sets their own hours, so I work all day (more like "play" all day). However I feel guilty because I'm working all the time. It's so hard for me to pull myself away from it because it's sooo fun. How do I achieve a better work-life balance? I feel like I'm missing out on time with my mom, brother, family etc, because to me the only thing that I really want to do is work. It's like I live and breathe my job. And love every minute of it. I know this isn't healthy, so what are some strategies for not becoming a workaholic? BTW I'm 28, single and living at home trying to save $$ so I can move out eventually (please, no rude comments about me living at home at 28).
How much work ethic is "too much" -- achieving better work/life balance? Does anyone ever feel that the emphasis on constant work ethic pseudo-reinvention and productivity for the sake of productivity itself has become overzealous, particularly in the past 20-30 years? In today's "gotta have it now" culture and "24/7 instead of 9/5 business cycle", it's painfully obvious that expectations at practically every level of society are *way* more than they were in the 1980s and even as recently as the 1990s. Instead of harping on faux productivity slogans like "doing more with less" (which hardly even actually works out in real life, unless you count 1 person doing the work of 3-4 people as a good thing)...who not slow down a little, chill out, and focus on better "work/life" balance? What's wrong with giving the little guy a break once in a while...and more quality and recreational time, to spend with family members and loved ones?
What are some companies or jobs with a good work/personal life balance? I'm a somewhat recent college grad with a degree in organizational communication. Just recently finished up an internship with a media buyer. I'm now interviewing and finding alot of jobs expect you to work like a 60 hour work week. I value my family, friends, and personal time and am not willing to make my entire life my work. M-F 9-5 I'll be the hardest worker you ever had but feel like my personal time is my personal time and I don't want to be up until midnight every night and spend my weekends on the computer working. It seems like a lot of people view this as lazy or not serious about a career but I personally think I just have a different set of prioririties. I was wondering if someone could recommend jobs or companies that have a good work/life balance?
How to have a good work/life balance in a Sales job involving travel? Hi, My partner is considering a Sales job where travel (2-3 times a week) is required to visit clients. The company offers no benefits and he might work 40h a week. I am slightly concerned because this might be exhausting and affect our quality time. He is going for an interview on Friday. He will have to drive to visit clients in the UK (I don't know why he could not simply fly or get a train ticket to go to London for example!. The office is in Newcastle). I am also concerned because he's been unemployed before and I am not sure whether he is ready for this perm job. I would appreciate if some Sales people could give me some advice on how to keep a perm job in Sales without damaging the work/life balance? Many thanks. PS: I also wonder how working hours are counted when you travel and if the laptop, iPhone and company car can be used for private purposes? S
Is it possible to have a good work/life balance as a CPA? I am currently working towards a career in accounting at my university, but after speaking to some accounting recruiters and doing some research I am not sure if I should reconsider. I' have heard so much about the 70 hour work weeks and the constant stress of working for a big 4 firm. I would not mind doing this while I am still young but I would dread working this many hours later in my career So my question is if it would be easy to transfer to a company with less hours as a CPA after I have a few years of experience under my belt. When i am 30 years old will I be able to obtain a 9 to 5 job? Or is this career only for workaholics? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
My job is less challenge... yet stress free.. work life balance and good pay..? I have recently joining a new company. It is a bigger and well structure MNC compare to my previous employer. I received better remuneration package and benefits for a lower grade job with lesser responsibility. However, I found myself unhappy with the new job. The job scope which I am currently doing is much less challenge as compare to the previous job. I feel that what i learnt in my previous company cannot be applied in my current role. Instead, the things which i am currently handling is actually something which my ex-subordinate used to be handling. Recently, it is getting worst. I am listless in office and I lost all my passion on work. I feel guilty but I really don't enjoy doing the works. I am not sure what's the reason. Is it because of the people? the work? My current company is considerably a good company, but i find myself getting frustracted adapting into the company way of doing things and I started to miss my previous jobs and colleagues. (I am very closed with ex-colleagues but my current colleagues are just fine.. ) I am now considering to quit my job and looking for a new one. But I worry I may regret for giving up such a good job which is work life balance, easy and stress free yet good pay. My friends are all against my ideal for resigning and they are saying that I used to be working too hard and is time to take a slower pace in life. What should i do? I am really confuse and not sure what should i do next... can you share with me your experience if you have the same problem before.. thanks..
could i manage a decent work/life balance as a barrister? If i were to become a barrister, is there any plausible way to have a decent work/life balance and still be a good barrister. I know i am capable, and i am determined, but i am put off by the 60 hour minimum week, when i would like to be spending time with my family. Has anyone got any experience in this field? are there any other barristers online that can share their experience? thanks
Should women be given certain considerations at the work place? Considering that women have a dual responsibility of managing the home as well as fulfilling their responsibility at work, they should be given certain considerations at work. This will help them ensure a better work-life balance. Please vote for this online petition here: http://myidea.co.in/voteonidea.php?i=775&smo=yans
How is life as a dentist? I am a high school student planning on becoming a dentist and would like to know some things about it. How much do they work? If in private practice, does it hurt the business to go on vacations? What is the average salary? Is it a stressful job? How much of the income goes to rent, equipment, assistants, etc.? Is there a good work-life balance? Thank you!
Does anyone out there work for Mass Mutual? Does anyone out there work for Mass Mutual? My husband has had two interviews, and he really seems to like it, but we were wondering if it allows for a very good work life balance and how stressful it tends to be.
Is job life better in the US than UK? I am thinking about moving to the US from the UK because the pressure here seems too much for me. I'd like to know if America is anything like what we see in the movies - nice houses, huge cars, good jobs, always sunny, better opportunities etc. Is the work/life balance in the US better than the UK and is life more comfy there. Is the gun culture there a fact or fiction? How should I prepare if I want to move to the US? As the US is a very large place, are there place to avoid and places to be? Thank you
UK: Would the world be a better place, if we worked to a 8 day week? I sometimes resent working 6 days a week. Then only having one day of at the weekend. If we had 8 days, then everyone could earn a good living and have a decent break. Please don't say be thank-full you have a job. working ppl are exploited enough as it it. What's wrong with a good work/life balance?
Single-parent teachers: How do you maintain work-life balance? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the teaching profession for single-parents? I can think of a few myself, but I want to hear from people who have actually done this, especially with young children. Teaching seems to be a pretty demanding profession, so how did/do you make the time to be a good single-parent while pursuing a teaching career?
Which branch of accounting has the best work/life balance? I am going to be heading into my 3rd year of college majoring in accounting. I have done a fair amount of research on the accounting field. I know the the big 4 will work you long hours, but looks amazing on a resume. Working at smaller, regional firms will get you better hours. This is all PUBLIC accounting though. What I am wondering is what Private Accounting is like. I have found very little information regarding this branch of accounting. Do they make similar wage? have good benefits? How's the work/life balance? Personally, I am looking for a job that has great work/life balance. I would be willing to settle for a smaller salary/less benefits (within reason) in order to get that magical 40-hour workweek that seems to be a fleeting dream in Public Accounting(according to my research).
What flexible work and family arrangements has your workplace introduced? It is important to embed flexible working arrangements that assist employees to have a better balance between their work and non work responsibilities into the workplace culture. What has your workplace done to improve work/life balance and what do you think would be a great way to improve the way your workplace operates in this area? Federal Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations - Joe Hockey
Where are the best cities to work in Australia for a life work balance? For CRNA (nurse anesthetist): How do you balance work/life/family?? Is it worth it? Hi there, I'm a radiologic technologist with my BS in health sciences and considering going back to school to get my Accel. BSN with a goal of becoming a CRNA. I have alwasy considered nursing as a career, was actually accepted to a BSN program out of high school, but decided to take another route and get my radiography degree (2 year AS program). I am almost 23, female, no kids, and figure I would finish my MSN CRNA degree by the time I'm about 30 (start 15 month ABSN May 2010-Aug. 2011, 1-2 years ICU exp., 28 month MSN degree). I was fairly shocked with the job market for radiographers when I graduated school (only 1 person out my graduating class of 20 got a full time job!). I have been working per diem for the past two years since I graduated (from my AS) and transferred to get my BS degree full-time. Now that I'm done with my BS degree, I still can't find FT employment (I need health insurance!), and am really disappointed with the hourly wage in my state (new hires only start at $16/hour!) when the cost of living and taxes in my state are very high! I have been taking a few night classes in computers/networking while working per diem, thinking I might be able to get into PACS/RIS administration or other dept. network systems admin. in the hospital (or any business), but still not too sure about the employment reliability in the computer/IT area either... I love working with people, caring for others, but was always a little "nervous" about all the procedures/responsibilities nurses have (although we do our share of fun as rad techs, too). I know I could do if I put my mind to it... I had a fairly easy time in college with good grades (3.85 graduating BS GPA, and I took pre-med science courses like Bio, Chem, Physics, etc). I realize the commitment and challenges of nursing school and the CRNA program and fully respect anyone who goes through it! I like the idea of becoming a CRNA, more autonomy, you pick your place of work and hours, better pay, more specialized, etc. The only thing I am concerned about is how women (and men) out there balance family life and work life. I am in no hurry, by any means, to get married and have a family, but by the time I graduate CNRA school, I may thinking of that. I don't plan on having a huge family or being a stay at home mom for life or anything like that... I just want options and don't want my career to completely rule my life. How do you guys balance your career and other aspects of your life? I want a family first, then my career, not the other way around! Is CRNA the career for me? Or is it a full-time, life changing comittment? I realize one must love their job and always be focused on continuing education and what is best for the patient... but I also want a job that I can leave at the hospital and come home to my family and still have "other interests." No offense to anyone, I don't want to be an MD or work 80 hours a week (I have huge respect for those who can do that). I just want a stable, rewarding career that will allow my family and I to live confortably and happily. I know it may be somewhat stressful of a career (as there is stress in ANY job), but don't want it to affect my entire life (is there a high "burn out" rate like there is in some other nursing specialties?) I would also like the opportunity to maybe work part-time if I have kids... What are you opinions? How do you balance work and home life? Would any of you do anything different (if you could go back)? Is CRNA a good "mothers" career? Is it worth all the time and training you put in? Thank you for your time and opinions...
Small Business Owners- work/life balance? My question is more geared toward men, but I'll take answers from both. For throse of you that own small businesses, particuarly those in the trades- do you have a hard time with work/life balance? Do you ever take weekdays off or short vacations with your significant other? When really stressed out, do you take it out on your S/O or how do you manage to keep it separate? Has owning your own small business affected your ability to have a good relationship or marriage?
Life after Big 4 accounting firm? I am looking for information and ideas about regarding my options after working at a big four acctg firm. I am 24 years old, have both a masters and an undergraduate degree in acctg and two years work experience (still working there now now). I'm hoping to take my knowledge and experience and apply to another spectrum in the business world outside of accounting. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a better work life balance and maybe something a little more interesting.
No work/life balance in my new job...should I quit? I am in the office at 7:30 a.m. and LUCKY if I am done by 6 p.m. Typically, there are events after work hours 3 nights a week as well. I just started this job and it sounded much better in theory, but now I realize I have no room to have a life. I am sitting at a desk 10+ hrs a day and have no time or energy to workout (something I love!). On top of it all, I turned down an offer from another company that offered me a VERY flexible and $7K more in the base. I thought a rigid schedule would be good for me. Plus the current company I am with is very successful and definitely going place. But day-to-day the hours are terrible. Soo, on that note, do I suck it up? Am I being a baby? OR should I try to go running back to the other company that offered me work/life balance & more money initially?? What would you do? Thank you everyone, so much for your opinions. Because it is a recurring theme, I should state that this are typical hours for employees here. Employees who have been here for 5 years are still working the same hours, so it is not only due to me being a new employee. I don't want to feel like I am giving up. And I don't want to look back in 5 years and wish I had kept the position because the company is growing each year. BUT I also do not want to be a workaholic; it's not me. Again, thank you all.
What is the proportion of work-life balance a college student should have? What is the proportion of work-life balance a college student should have? I'm 17 years old, a college student with university-level stress. I spend 9 hours in school on weekdays and on weekends, I use a total of 5 hours on studying/homework. I'm taking my promotional exams in forty days, and GCE A Levels next year. I actively take part in community work on a weekly basis. My results are below average and I need more time to study (I think). I relax by texting, playing games, facebooking on my iPhone. (sorry android and other OS users lol) I feel I am overstressed so I'm asking this question so that I can prioritize my time better.
can any one suggest me a better career? Hi everybody, I am a graduate with 25 years of experience in a manufacturing co. in the areas of marketing, finance, ERP. I am now 50 yrs. Present salary 5.0 lacs p.a. I need a better job preferably in it/ites/bpo sector in Bangalore only , which gives me work life balance, better salary. Please suggest me the possible avenues.
Big 4 Vs 2nd Tier National Firms Work/Life Balance? My University has an excellent internship program for Winter (Busy Season) internships. I am a solid candidate for Big 4 firms, and could likely get placed at a firm of my choice on the assurance side of the business. Historically, students at my school end up being hired by the firm in which they interned with. I currently have interviews with Deloitte, KPMG, RSM, BDO, Clifton Gunderson, and a few large local firms. I have been told that the Big 4 pays slightly better, but also requires more hours than in other large national firms for new staff. Is this true? Does this same general stereotype apply for throughout one's career? I'm slightly torn between the prestige of the Big 4 and the work/life balance pitch by the large nationals. Any advice pertaining to large accounting firms in general would also be appreciated.
Do nurses have time for a life away from work? Like for hobbies such as theatre? Or teaching a drama class on the side? Or taking art classes and dance classes? Can a person who's a registered nurse strike a good balance between work and having a creative life on the side? Or do the vast majority feel bogged down by work and have little to no energy for creativity after a days work is done? If you have any personal examples, or know someone that would be great to hear!
How do I emigrate FROM the UK or at least get a temporarily work-permit abroad? I have worked in retail financial services for several years as a self-employed consultant. I earn £60-120K per annum and I'm 36 years old. I have travelled extensively in my twenties and having spent several years at home putting in the long hours, I reckon I might find a better work-life balance elsewhere. Happy to take a big drop in earnings - its lifestyle that I'm looking for. I have no family of my own and frustratingly I don't have any family in other countries. Early research suggests that I do not meet any of the in demand occupations for either Australia, New Zealand or Canada. I'm happy to consider other countries through regrettably I am not fluent in any other languages. Also, I seem to have just missed the cut-off for working holiday visas which have cut-off ages of 30 or 35. I'm a little surprised to have run into difficulties so early on in my research. I'd be grateful for suggestions as to what avenues to pursue next?
How do we change the american workplace? Consider the stats below. We work and are preoccupied by work way too much. How can we reform our workplace and still be on top of the world economically? Basically how do i get more vacation time? The American worker has the least vacation time of any modern, developed society. In 2006, 27 percent of workers said they would be checking in with the office while on vacation. More than half of workers say they work under a great deal of stress, and 77 percent say they feel burned out on the job. 44 percent of working moms admit to being preoccupied about work while at home and 1/4 say they bring home projects at least one day a week. 19 percent of working moms reported they often or always work weekends. 37 percent of all working dads said they would consider the option of taking a new job with less pay if it offered a better work/life balance. 36 percent of working dads reported they bring work home at least 1 day a week and 30 percent say they often or always work weekends. I'd like to add some more thoughts. As far as the nuclear family, it si deteriating. we all know that. I guess about 20 years ago, more and more women started working. It is their right, but people should realize the consequences. I believe it is one of the causes of inflation. we wanted more and more things, and now we cannot support a family on a single income. it is ashame. the fact that families had 1.5 to 2 times the buying power helped drive up the housing market costs. I don't know that this can be corrected. How can I work 40 hours a week and have a family (one day) and have my wife stay home and raise the kids the way I was raised, All while saving for retirement so I don't have to work until I die? I try buy not buying excessive things, but I think we, as a society, have to look at what we have become.
Can I be a good mom AND work full-time? Hello everyone! My husband and I are expecting our first baby (a girl) on or around May 1. I will be on paid maternity leave for 6-8 weeks and then using 6 weeks of my vacation time on top of that for a total of about 3 months home with our new baby girl. I'm struggling with wanting to be a SAHM and also wanting to work. I'm the primary breadwinner in our home and I love my job. My husband has a great job too. We have considered relocating from Virginia to FL or NC (where cost of living is lower) to be able to afford for me to stay at home. With the state of the economy, there's no way I'd feel comfortable giving up my job and I am not even sure I am the type of woman who wants to stay home! My question is, can I be a good mother and still work full time? (My mom didn't start working until my youngest brother started school). I'm afraid of my baby girl growing more attached to her nanny than to me. My job is completely flexible as well. I can choose to work from home whenever I want and my employer stands behind a good work-life balance. Has anyone else struggled with this? What did you decide to do? Thanks! =) Thanks. I appreciated the inputs from (almost) everyone. Since this is my first child, I've never had to think about this before! I don't want a stranger to raise her, but I also want to make sure we can always provide for her.
How can I balance my life better? I have so many things that want to do and need to do. Studying for SATs, doing summer projects for school, working on writing and my drawings, relaxing.....I've even developed an unhealthy sleeping pattern of sleeping at 6am and waking at 1pm because I try to do so much in one day. How can i balance everything together? I always end up doing things for a much longer time than i should, and as a result, i screw my whole day up.

How to balance social life and good school work? I seem to always get distracted in lessons by friends, gossip and stuff... I REALLY want to learn. But for some reason my social life seems to be coming over me like a tidal wave. I keep telling myself 'concentrate on your school work!' but it doesn't seem motivating enough.. I find I get this more in boring subjects/lessons or my weakest subjects such as Math and Science. Are there any good hints to motivate me to get on with work as well as keep friends and talk and stuff? Also Gossiping is bad. I want to stop. I'm not a Gossiper, I just find when other girls gossip I always find myself listening... How can I stop?
What should I do with my life? I want to change careers/go back to school. I have narrowed down my options (all though feel free to throw out others if you feel they apply) About me: I love being creative and artistic. I enjoy a good work life balance. I am more of a early morning/day person vs. night. I prefer to deal with few people in my day. Dealing with a few customers and/or the same staff/ co-workers is fine, I don't enjoy being a cashier where there are constant people interacting with strangers. I enjoy my co-workers and regular clients, I also enjoy working alone, quieter work environments appeal. I like to be in control, I'm also patient and empathetic. Being self-employed would be good but not necessary. I am flexible on these points so a job that does not involve them all is totally okay. I want a job that is DEMAND, or at least I have a good chance of getting a job in once I'm done school/'training My choices: 1. Dog Grooming: I LOVE animals, my dogs are my life (love my kitties too) 2. Baker/Cake decorator: I really enjoy decorating cakes, cupcakes and pastries 3. Teacher: I did co-op in highschool in a jk/sk class and enjoyed it 4. Illustrator/ animator: Drawing is my favorite past time and I am pretty good at it So what do you think is a good fit and why, thank you in advance
What can I do? I don't want to work in an office!? Hi, I am 27 years old and I have been working one office or another for the last 9 years (with the exception of last year where I was made redundant and spent 4 months temping / looking for work)... Now I have what people would consider a coveted job in marketing (that I thought I wanted), a beautiful rented flat in a lovely location, and adoring boyfriend of 3 years who loves me and would do anything for me and support any choices I make. to be honest from the outside my life is pretty idyllic.. but I'm not happy, If you spend over 3/4 of your waking life in a job shouldn't you strive for something that makes you happy and fulfills you? I can't stand the office politics, which no matter how hard you try still drag you down, sitting at a desk (which no matter how many photo's you put up still feels soulless) answering to bosses (whose mood will dictate what type of say you will have) and then all the time in between where you are left to think about what you 'could' be doing with your life... I am a really creative person, you would often find me making clothes / canvas's / .. any creative out let and I will use it, I adore decorating my flat, looking for vintage clothing and I enjoy the option of working from home OR at a place of work. I also want a good work / life balance, I don't want to be getting in at 8pm and working on my laptop until 11pm... I have been looking at my finances, I can't afford not to be working (as I used nearly all my savings when I lost my job last year) and I don't want to loose my flat so the minimum salary of £22k (which is BIG step down but I am prepared to make the cut) I am not interested in any government jobs OR working in an office OR Stripping :)P.. I don't want to wake up in 10 years time and still be working behind a desk... If anyone can help me, if anyone can think of anything I can do with my life I would welcome advice. Thank you for reading my rant.
Can someone please translate these questions into German? 1.) What are the health risks of alcohol? 2.) What are the health risks of smoking? 3.) What are the health risks of illegal drugs? 4.) Do you have a healthy diet? 5.) What do you think of anorexia in the fashion world? 6.) Do you have a good work life balance? 7.) Do you get stressed easily?
Do I ask for a demotion to a manager role? I am having issues on my job, and its creating alot of anxiety. I am thinking less responsibility would provide a better work/life balance. Is this the right move? Would I be worse to stay where I am at, and try to ride it out? (It's been 9 months and not improving). I am a male Leo - 7/28/67 (I dont know the time).
What tips do u have for keeping organised at uni in my 3rd year? What are good resources for Work-Life Balance (Gender)? We are doing a presentation in our HR class on the Balancing Work and Life from the HR point of view. and I am suppose to be looking up information related to gender and I am having a hard time finding information. Are there any good resources finding information on this topic? Also, if you have any ideas about what I could talk about in this presentation please let me know.
Has the Blackberry PDA fundamentally altered our work patterns for better or worse? When I started my previous job my employers gave me a Blackberry device to use. One Saturday, I received a work email, but did not reply to it, as it wasn't urgent. On the Monday, I was reprimanded for not dealing with it. My employer advised me that the Blackberry isn't there to increase my workload, but to help me work smarter. However, I think the Blackberry has been a negative influence on working practices. Employees are now persuaded to deal with emails before they get in the office, 'freeing up' time for other things. They can finish off work on their tube/train home, and can deal with things out of the office. My concern is this: given that the Blackberry is now effectively extending the working hours of employees and giving them more work to deal with, why hasn't pay and remuneration for those using the device increased also? I am in support of modern technology, but I think the Blackberry has altered the work/life balance in favour of employers. Agree or disagree?
Why is America so obsessed with work? In other countries there seems to be a better balance between life and work. They have longer lunch breaks, are encouraged to use vacation days, etc. But in America people often don't use their vacation days and many take short lunches. Why?
Looking for a good book on "better balancing home and work"? I know there are many books on this topic, but I believe many of them are intended for those who are seeking a better balance for themselves. I'm hoping to find a good source for someone who does not realize that they require a better balance, but is making their life difficult for themselves and those around them. Thanks to all who reply.
Busy business men in serious relationships? Work/Life Balance? If I feel unhappy because my boyfriend's suddenly gotten busy with work things, do I stick it out or leave? I've expressed my needs to him already, he hasn't made any effort to change the situation. Work has been extra busy and he still has his normal activities/obligations. He hasn't asked me out in a while and the few times I have asked him to do something he's turned me down due to other obligations. Other than that he still tells me all the right things and seem as in love as ever. But a part of me feels like if he truly cared then he would make time. Another part feels like a good partner would be more understanding and stick it out. Have you ever been in his situation? I'm trying to be understanding rather than cut bait. Friends and Gym are those other obligations. I'm 110% positive he is not cheating. I know that is not whats going on because he loves me. I have no doubt about that. I'm just wondering if I'm unhappy... if that means its time to cut loose since I've expressed it and nothing is changing. Or because I love him, that I should be patient and eventhough I am unhappy and he isn't doing anything to change it, I really should just be supportive? We're not married so he isn't really working hard for me. I work and take care of myself. I've been vocal that I needed a date and he even acknowledged that he's been neglecting me because he's busy. Some of this is activities with friends, not just work and sports, but I would never want to keep him from his friends.

What is it like to work as a consultant at PwC? Is it a good environment for a reasonable work-life balance at PricewaterhouseCoopers? Also, are they understanding/accepting of women with children? Is there a lot of travel involved with the job?
How do I balance life and money? Sometimes you get confused whether is it really necessary to make more money by sacrificing some good moments in the family life and doing hard work. How much money you need to have balanced good life for now and future all along.
What is working for NVR/Ryan homes in sales REALLY like? I've worked for a smaller local builder that's higher end and a little custom, but still production housing and it has been time to move on and "escape" for a long time coming. It would be a complete change, both in job title, atmosphere and even hours, but I've gone through the first interview step for starting out as a sales associate with NVR/Ryan homes. It's funny because the company I currently work for has a few ex NVR/Ryan salespeople who came looking for better work-life balance and a less strict & regimented company and I'm looking for exactly the opposite, mostly. Has anyone ever worked in a sales role or known anyone who has for NVR/Ryan homes in any area...and have any "real" dish on what it or they are really like to be a part of? Just curious as to what else I really may be looking into should this go to the next step and next step after that, enthused about the possible change from crazed disorder, poor treatment and pay to the new company, even if just for a short time. Let it roll...
How to balance life?? I have a 3 yr old, work 5 days a week, and also have a chronic illness. I have tried very hard to balance my life, but still find there simply is not enough time. Does anyone have some good ideas for great things I can do with my child, things I or we can do with others ( I miss having a social life and friends' kids are all much older), and/or just general ways to organize and balance life better??
How can you balance your life to get everything done when you have kids, work, study etc.? Something always seems to get missed out or not done - housework, garden, friends, family, kids, study, good eating, exercise, prayer time, helping others, holidays, budgeting, rest, sleep................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who has THE ANSWER? That is my biggest question!
I can't find a good balance in my life, I don't know what I want in my life.? I'm a 90+ student. I have lots of friends and I hang out with them whenever I don't have a billion things to do. I'm a competitive dancer and I'm very involved at my school. But I don't think I'm that happy witih my life. I am always stressed, I go to a private school with a lot of work and I always have to say no to doing fun things because i have to work and i HATE IT. My mom is really obsessed with me doing well in school, she says that "success is the most important thing and survival is an important thing". Well here's the thing, to me happiness is my number one priority. What's the point of working so hard, having no time to do things for me and always being stressed. You only get to live life once so live it to the fullest. How do I get my workaholic mom to understand this? I would rather have an 85% average which according to my mom isn't good but be happy with my life. I just don't know what to do, because i want to make my life better and be less stressed :( HELP PLEASE
Unraveling experience, What is a good book to regain balance in life? I can't be specific about subject, sorry... just can't. Certain cards have been played against me. You could almost say these people are like the spawn of Satan in the way they wield their power and destroy lives. It was so cleverly crafted that it will take about 20 years (or executed tomorrow) for them to come to fruition and in the end it will leave me a broken man. It will take my worldly possesions, leave me in an old and crippled state. I will finish the last years of my life struggling and working like I never had too work, a loaf of bread and cheese will be a feast... and there is nothing more I can do too prevent it from happening.... what book, story would you suggest for me too read to try and re-center my life. (although I do love the bible....lets find something inspired by god and written by a poet or authors hand). One of my favorite reads was, Les Miserable by Victor Hugo, what other books, poems, would you suggest?
What are the areas of balance in life that people need to discover? Balance is the ability to stand between two extremes without wavering and without insecurity. Those of us who have a few years on our belt know that balance comes with good teaching and with experience. I'm endeavoring to figure out what the different areas of life and character are that we need balance in, for example: idealism vs realism - can't be too real and can't be too "head in the clouds" ideal. Self-judgementalism vs self-analysis - can't be too hard on yourself, but you can't be lazy minded either. Isolation vs individualism - we have to recognize our need for others, but can't get too caught up with the crowd either. So what about you? What areas in your life have you had to discover a balance between two extremes of character that served you well?
How do you find balance between heartaches and good part of life? I worry about everything. I guess I make a mountain out of mole hills over things that are out of my control. But, then when I am happy about something I talk about it a lot, too. I know there has to be a balance between the two and to not let things get to me. I know other people go through the same thing. It is how we let it affect us.
Who do you believe have better balance men or women? I believe men have better balance. I lot of women I know couldn’t scale a mountain If their life depended on it. Women are always holding onto me when walking across tuff terrain. I'm like a mountian goat. I will put that thu a test CanadaMama2 hahah I'll put you in your place I actually have an afro
How about a better, more sustainable life without the illegals to clean your house and mow your lawn? The pro-illegals kept saying that without the work of these illegals, the U.S. would not be able to function. Any one with a brain could see how untrue it is, but if we look at the way many American citizens live and work today, it's not too hard to see that the dependency on cheap illegal labor is also the excuses for companies, communities, even the states to not take on the inevitabble transition to a more sustainable way of living. Take a closer look at the spending/consumption patterns of the majority of people, you can see how wasteful and unnecessary people spend their money(likely on things they can live without). What the need for cheap illegal household help(landscape, maids, nannies) really shows, is not how much we need the illegals to clean our houses or mow our lawns, it really shows how far away many are from a normal, wholesome, balanced family life. whoever voted down Turtle is legal, is, like many of the chest-pounding, lie-spewing, arrogant, illegal Mexicans on this site, a certifieble MORON!!! Spazz, one doesn't have to be "rich, stuckup, white" to not want to do a lawn mowing job for $2 an hour. It has nothing to do with what color or race you are. It simply is because $2 an hour is not a livable wage for any self respecting citizen.

What is a good way to keep my social life and WoW balanced? The many people that tell me they wasted 4 years of their life with the game. I love the game, but understand i need to draw a line. Any suggestions on a sorta schedule of playing WoW would be great.

How can I balance my social Life with my Schoolwork, in High School? ? I have trouble balancing being social and being focused on school. I've experienced that when I focus really hard on school I get high marks, but this causes me to become really quiet and disconnected with people. When I do start talking with people, I start falling behind on everything and my mind wanders. Which is better? or how do I balance myself?
Surely it is better to get balance in a diet? I keep seeing some on here suggesting others cut the carbs, etc etc, but isn't the point to try and get a balanced diet that one can keep for life? Surely things like wholewheat pitta bread, brown rice and wholewheat pasta are fine in reasonable portions? These complex carbs, afterall, used to be known as the dieter's friend because they are digested more slowly and keep you fuller longer?

Which is better - carrying a balance or not? I'm curious to know which one is better. Let's say Person A and Person B have the identical lives including 1 credit card with a 10,000 dollar limit. Person A has a 7,000 dollar balance and is currently paying 4 times the monthly minimum. Person B has no balance whatsoever. Considering NO other factors - which person would have the higher credit score?
How to balance University life with weight loss goals? Any advice would be appreciated. I would live to lose weight while in university and not gain a pound, but it's harder since my workload is so full I feel like any time dedicated to exercising or cooking proper meals (am not living on my own) should be spent on studying. Is it better to just to ditch studying for exercise and eating and cooking healthier? I think I might be on the verge of failing university (First year). It feels like academic achievement comes at the price of health.
If you were trying to better your self in life but had an imbalance? Story short 11 years of social absence . I am now trying to get a good, strong start fixing my life. When I want to do something I do it , and I do it fast. I am making big changes and I am very excited. My question to you is to be natural and not take the pill for my imbalance , and to suffer alot of embarrassment and never be able to balance my emotions, and focus.....and blend in . Or just accept that I need the pill for the rest of my life.
Why does it feel like there is always something wrong with my life? Why is there always something wrong in my life? Everyday has something bad to offer. When something bad goes, another comes. It always feels like in order to balance the good in my life, bad things need to happen? The frequency of the bad thing may vary, but it's like it always does occur. HELP.
How do you balance Depression with work/uni/school???????????? I'm just wondering how others suffering with depression cope with work, uni or school? I been feeling down for a long time and now i feel like i've hit rock bottom, everything bad is happening to me. I have failed alot of my modules and my university is trying to throw me out. No matter how hard i try, I can do nothing right. If i get thrown out of university i'll have nothing, that was only thing going for me basically i'll be even more of a failure. I'm going to see my doctor this week and to ask for anti depressants in order to sort my life out. If i'm lucky and get on to the 2nd year hopefully the anti depressants will help me cope better with uni work. But my question is how do you balance your depression with work or school???????
How can you balance between being a total geek in school and having a life outside of it? I'm reading about graduate students and there big accomplishments and stuff...but how do those people have a life outside their work. Most people I know would laugh at these nerdy people...not that I support that. I guess what I'm asking is - -- is it better to give your life to knowledge and science than to live it up socially? People won't think your "cool" but instead think you're a nerd/geek lol.
