What do you think it takes to become a successful Real Estate Agent? So, let me start off by explaining to you my situation. As of right now I am 17 years old. I am fixing to graduate high school a year early and graduate my associates degree in business management from being a concurrent student at the local community college. I have had the privileged of growing up around my mother whom owned her own office supply company until she retired about 4 years ago. In my opinion I have excelled in school a lot faster and more successfully then others. Now to my question. In September when I turn 18 I plan on going to Real Estate school and obtaining my required 45-clock hours so that I can test for my license. I understand that when it comes to real estate, especially when you are brand new and as young as I am.. the flow of an income is slow if not non existent for awhile. The upper hand I have is my mom is willing to support me through the first few years, that way any money I do make I will put away so that in the next five years I can proceed with the rest of my plan. I was just wondering what you think it takes to be a successful agent. I have always had a passion for real estate and a people person. I think I have good qualities, but I feel as if my age is a draw back. What do you think?

would you call this professional talk from a real estate agent? From: littlelanasue Message: Actually I am a very successful real estate agent. I have been the top in my county for over 5 years!!! And, I have bought and sold many homes! You have to understand, Realtors don't get paid until the home closes. So, you have worked your Realtors butt off, and now you are messing with their income over FIVE HUNDRED BUCKS! It's petty, and YOU are the rude one. I bet you are going to expect the Realtors to cough up the $500 just to get the deal closed, because that's how people like you work! Always looking for something to ***** about! From: littlelanasue Message: Even though it was in your contract, it was NOT THEIRS TO SELL therfore making the contract void. That would be like your neighbor trying to sell YOUR car. I don't doubt that you are entitled to something, I just think you are blowing it WAY out of proportion. You have to ask yourself, what drew you to the home? Was it the swingset? If you knew in the beginning the swingset didn't go with the property, would you have bought it anyway? I think you are being very childish in the whole matter. And blaming your Realtor? The only thing they can relay to the buyer, is what the seller has told them to relay. How was it their fault the sellers lied? GROW UP AND MOVE ON OR SHUT UP!!! From: littlelanasue Message: I'm going to say this as slooooowwwwlllllyyy as I caaaaaannnnn, so you'll understand me! THEY CAN'T SELL WHAT THEY DON'T OWN!!!! SO SHUT UP AND MOVE ON!!!!!! This is the response I got from a "reall estate agent" when I posted the question on yahoo answers Not the real estate agent people, the seller!!!!!!!!!! The agent made us meet at the closing and than I had to negotiate. The agent was a very nice man, he was scared of the seller and losing his business. I know agents aren't rich, but neither is any one else working a middle class job. I would have NEVER asked the agent to pay the cost, I refused to close until the SELLER ponied up. Nothing to do with the agent. Geez people you are really make a poor name for yourselfs!

How to become a successful multi-million dollar real estate agent? I have very very strong passion for houses. I mean in my spare time, I browse websites like realtor.com, eplans.com and luxuryplans.com just to look at the houses. I live in Atlanta and when I see some of the gorgeous mansions, I get very excited. I am only 16 right now and a senior in in HS. I deeply desired to become a doctor and I must admit that humanitarianism was a strong part of it but the was also the "luxurious" lifestyle. I am thinking that I should become a real estate agent because that may be my true calling but the only problem is that I would only want to sell houses over about $500,000. I don't really think that I have the best personality skills to attract clients but I probably could work on them. How could I become a real estate agent selling to high profile clients and exclusive homes in the million dollar range? should I read books about it from those like Donald Trump and others. I was watching Million Dollar Listing on Bravo and Josh Flagg recently sold over $80 Million in one year and he's only 21.

Should I become a real estate agent? Please read below..? Before I begin, I should mention. I live in Canada not the U.S. Canada does not have the foreclosure mess that the U.S does so the real estate market is stable. I just graduated from high school and I am turning 18 on my birthday in a few weeks. My dad who owns and operates a successful real estate office told me that he would pay for all my training to become a real estate agent as a birthday gift. 2 out of 3 of my other siblings who are a lot older than me have joined him and they are making a decent amount of money but I have always wanted to not go down this path because of the stress my parents have running this business and the fact they were always talking about work around me but I have seen it all. I know most of the basic just from hearing the conversations all my life. Should I go to university or should I become a real estate agent and join most of my family? My other siblings all went to university before going down their career path but I am still not sure what I want to do. What do you think I should do? Please help.
What is a reasonable amount for a first year real estate agent to expect making in his/her first year? In CA, if I am to work part time as a real estate agent (under a well respected and successful brooker) would it be too ambitious to expect $45,000 in my first year?
When a high-producing real estate agent/broker has several assistants, who pays them? The Company or Agent? For instance I am working with a very successful agent who is tops in her company for transactions. She has 4 assistants working under her. Are they paid solely by the Company or is it split between the Company and the Agent, or is the Agent solely responsible for their salaries? Or do they make a percentage of her commissions?
Should I become a real estate agent? How much do they usually make (zip-34685)? What's the average? I won't be working as a real estate agent for another 4 years so it will be after the "real estate depression". Ideas on being successful? Someday I want to have a large team in selling real estate. Thoughts? ...Any other career opportunities that make good pay?
What do you think of a Tundra CrewCab for a Real Estate Agent? I really like this truck but as a Real Estate Agent I don't know if people would think it's to low brow. I'm not into driving Mercedes or BMW to show how successful I am but I don't want this truck to hurt my image the other way. The truck seats 5 very confortably. Any Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks everyone so far, I like your response. I like it and i hope it'll be a pleasant change from the usual SUV look out there. I drove sedans for over 18 years just need a change Hey Ethol I hear you Loud and clear. I have a pontiac grand prix sitting outside my house right now totally shot. The transmission went for the second time since the summer. I did alot of research and Toyota seems to come up top. Me and my family have always been a Chevy lovers. But Listen I'm not pulling up in a mercedes with a I've got it all attitude. The truck drove like nothing else and the resale should be really great if it stay consistent with toyota line up. I am all for the big 3 but their problems didn't just come up over night with local trators, it's been over 20 years of their financial problems piling up. You have to be thankful that people have been loyal. And I'll be honest your point makes sense but I'll end with this if I can't properly service my clients (16years) they would have gone somewhere else long ago. Loyalty only can go so far. Hey guys, between the two of you. It seems the one thing you agree on is don't pay more for a tundra. I read the recall stuff and it scares me. The most fustrating thing about this whole process is you can't seem to get consistent info. Ethol you say that the ford is the best but then he says it's problamatic. I'm just going for best value for the buck. Edmunds rated it 6th best residual value out of all suv and pickups. Come on the buck is what counts. Real people are putting real money on that. Honestley at the car show I liked the interior of the lincoln Mark but didn't look further into it. My number one fear is not being able to sell of have value in the vehicle. Did you know that if I Lease (48Months) 4Runner I can drive it for 19 months and give back to them with no questions asked no penalty and possibly get money back.(they couldn't guarantee that with the tundra because it's a new model and it's hard to see how it's going to do.

A Career in Real Estate? Okay so im 18 years old, and im at the point in my life where, i have no idea what I wanna do! i plan to go to school for business next fall, and ideally become a successful real estate agent. A Real Estate Agent is very appealing to me because, i like the fact that there is no limit to how much money you can make, you set your own hours, you get to wear a suit to work everyday, drive a nice car, you get the idea! My father was a car salesman, and my whole life ive been good with my words and able to sell and persuade people into things he he. Its just that i am a lazy weed-smoker who needs to change my ways ( but i plan to do so) and i don't like to work evenings and weekends. And i sat down with a Real Estate agent in my community and he said if you want to be a real estate agent, then say goodbye to your evenings and weekends! that's a turn off for me, i want to enjoy my nights and weekends with my wife and family! Any Thoughts?
I am interested in becoming a real estate agent. Any pointers? I have just started my courses required to begin the process. I was wondering if there were any successful agents that could give my advice on the direction I should go.
Should I go back to school, continue being a real estate agent or go into the finance field as a equity trader? I'm currently a real estate agent, really young and debating whether I should go back to college perhaps full time/part-time to pursue a degree in economics or finance. I also have the option of diving right into the finance field as an equity trader and building my net worth that route. My aim is to increase my net worth to $1,000,000 in net assets in roughly 5 years and am looking at what is my best option. Do you folks think I should be thinking more long term than short term or bit of both? Quite a few intelligent people have said that I need to get a degree, even though it won't make me wealthy, having that degree will open up doors down the line, and make me into a more well-rounded individual. However at the same time, I feel going back to College (still a freshman by unit standards) it will delay my goal and I will be in the same position I currently am, being out of college at that point in time. So far I really haven't made any money in real estate as an agent, but the potential is certainly there, as I am working with a team. Some tell me to make money now in real estate, then when I am financially stable, go back to school and pursue the degree. My ultimate goals in 10+ years is to either be a real estate developer and/or hedge-fund manager or combination thereof. I don't want to get to a certain age and regret not having gone for at least my Bachelor's degree. I've had two multi-millionaire's tell me it shouldn't stop you from being successful in real estate and doesn't matter. So the options are: (in no particular order) 1. Go back to school, either full time or part time while keeping my hand in real estate on a part time basis or equity trading for a bit as well -- however realistically speaking I probably won't make much income due to my focus being dispersed. 2. Continue full time as a real estate agent, and in 2-3 years probably be making around $80K a year or more, with the hopes of building a sizable nest egg to then go into real estate development 3. Go in as a full time equity trader and look to build my nest egg and then down the line work for a hedge fund. What do you folks think and this is assuming I have passion for both RE and as a trading career. I feel I am probably over analyzing this too much, however I value my time and future, and obviously would like to take the best course of action. Yahoo Community -- what are your suggestions, advice, experiences, thoughts on the above mentioned? Thank you very much in advace and very much appreciate it.
Real estate courses... Does it matter what degree you get in real estate? There are universities that offer real estate courses that can be taken at home and take the licensing exam which a friend of myn has and is now a successful real estate agent. Do you need a college degree to be a real estate agent? How much do SUCCESSFUL real estate agents make?
Thinking of becoming a real estate agent in Pittsburgh...? Recent college grad who probably has all the characteristics to make a successful agent (but emphasizing good service to clients rather than pure profit motivation). However, I have NO savings and need income now. I understand how to get a license in PA, and can complete classes quickly while working another job; but how much can I reasonably expect to make if I work hard (and smart) in the current economic climate? Would I be looking at 1.5% commissions, if working for a broker like Northwood, Coldwell Banker, Hanna, etc.? Do any companies offer a base pay while you start out, since it might take some time to earn commission? Any advice or insight? Would it be possible to work for the license right now, and then take some time to work 'part-time' in the industry? That is, can one have a 9-5 job elsewhere, but slowly try to build oneself in the real estate industry 'on the side'?
I have my beautiful home listed with a real estate agent.? What I want to know is ways to attract buyers. One way I heard was to bury a St. Christopher statue upside down in the yard. Run your own ad. I thought other successful sellers might have ideas. Like yellow flowers etc.

How much time do you really need to invest to be successsful in real estate? I am considering getting a real estate license in CA. I would like an advice how much time you actually must spend in order to be successful. Some talks like it's a easy job but I am very skeptical about it. Also what is considered successful? What is the downside of being self employeed? What is the typical cost that you must pay out of your pocket when you become a real estate agent?

can i fire my real estate agent? i was on here about six months ago with that question. we have had our home listed with this company since may of 08. i understand the market. i know things are moving very slowly. our agent hasn't shown the house herself since january. she hired an assistant about a year ago. when we call her office we ALWAYS get the assistant. if we have a question, the assistant asks our agent then gets back with us. i am sick of dealing with her assistant and i am sick of her neglecting our home. we get our emails about potential clients from the assistant. no phone calls or personal care, just emails from the assistant that are generally pretty simple and very confusing. she came to us six months ago with renters. we told her absolutely not. we have a young family and just do not have the time to put into being landlords. well, my husband called and tried to put a fire under her to get her motivated again on our house a week ago. since then she has since email flyers to all the agents in this area. that's fine, but a little too much a little too late. yesterday, she called us with renters again! i have told her that we DO NOT want to rent the house, we want to sell it! i did not want to relist back in may of this year. i wanted to list with an old family friend who has been selling real estate in that area for 30 years. he is very successful and i know he will give us the personal service we deserve. i don't want to play this game with our agent anymore. she puts the sign up, everyone else in the area shows the house and when we do get an offer, she gets all the commission and she didn't do anything! i am new at this but i do understand that most houses are taking longer to sell. i just want some advice. i just don't know all the particulars. that's why i was hoping some of you with experience can help:)

Becoming a Real Estate Agent? So I'm a freshman in college and was thinking about gettin involved in Real Estate. Right now I'm majoring in Marketing and was going to do a 'certificate' program at my school for Real Estate however I'm sure there's more to it than that for getting into the business. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to start- if there's a test to take to become a certified agent, if I should just get an internship at an agency and hope they try to work me up the ladder or what? Also about how much agents start out at, what are some good firms to be with, and what kinds of things should I do in order to become successful. Any info at all would be really helpful!

Becoming Active as a Real Estate Agent in California in today's Market? I currently have a full-time job (8 - 5 type of thing). I've always wanted to be a Real Estate Agent, I gotten my license when I was 18 years old, but because of circumstances wasn't able to practice and exercise my license. I'm 24 years old now and I want to actively pursue this field and hopefully be successful (doesn't everybody), but I'm getting a lot of mixed feedback from different people. "They market is bad - don't do it." "A lot of people are sellings, it's a great opportunity." I know most agents when they do their first deal, it's usually someone they know, a friend or a friend's friend or a family friend. If I were to start, I'd will be cold calling and probably door knocking. Any suggestions for a basically a brand new agent looking to start from complete scratch? Thank so much in advance!
To practice selling would you reccomend going into automotive sales before becoming a real estate sales agent? I do not have any prior experience selling, so I want to prepare as much as possible so that I am successful. Or do you have a better idea to use while preparing? Thanks!
Is it legal to use multiple real estate agents at the same time to help sell my house? Or must I chose 1? I know I can meet with multiple potential agents to evaluate my house before putting it on the market. But when I am ready to sell, is it legal to use the services of multiple agents to sell my house at the same time (considering that the agent who finds me the buyer leading to a successful sale will be compensated by commission) to increase the number of possible buyers and the possibility of selling at an optimum price?
Multi million dollar real estate agents? America is flooded with real estate agents. Im just curious as to what you think it takes to be a successful one? Is it more important to have a dynamic personality or be a hard worker? Does it matter "who you know?" or could you move to a new town & with hard work be a success in the industry? Is it persistence that pays off or is it long hours? Do you think age is a factor? Older = more professional?

Or is it better to go to a training school, such as the Polley Associates, first before seeking for a job? I want to become an agent and be successful, but not sure about the best way to start, especially in this economy.

Real Estate Career?? After getting my license, is it possible for me to have a successful full-time job as a real estate agent. I don't have many contacts but I know I would love it. Any advice?
2 real estate agents- one experienced but busy, one not either- Which one to choose? I have two real estate agents I am considering using. One is experienced, very successful, and highly recommended- possibly one of the best ones in my area based on what I've heard. Because of this, he has about 20 homes on the market, all but one of them priced above mine- a number of them in the multi-millions, while I'm looking more like $140k. I just worry he won't try hard to sell mine (small commissions), and that he has a pretty full plate. The other agent is younger, has only been doing it for about a year. He has 0 homes he's selling right now, but he helped a friend of mine fine a house and my friend was very pleased with how hard he worked to find the perfect home. he is clearly not as experienced, but seems like he will really devote all his time to making our home sell. They are both part of the same real estate agency. What do you think?

What do you think of this Real Estate Business? Could it be successful in this economy? There will be two parts to the business, which would be located in a big city: 1. Selling Coach For a much smaller commission than an agency (around .5% of anticipated list price) I will come to the house people want to sell, review it and tell them what to do to make it look best, as well as give them a personal estimate on what price to set, backing up the estimate with market data on similar homes sold. I will put their house up on MLS for a flat fee with their name to call if people are interested. I will coach them through all important knowledge about advertising, open houses, and negotiating. I will give them any paperwork needed to sell the home as well as a professional looking outline of their homes details. After all that, my job will be done and paid for. Added optional fees will include selling for-sale signs, making additional ads for them, etc. Benefits to seller: They could sell their house for a cheaper price than if they were using an agent while still making more money on the overall deal by not working with a broker. They don’t have to pay the 6% commission they would normally owe. 2. Real Estate Listing Prep Service Real estate agents are quick to tell you that a home that has been professionally prepared to be listed will always sell faster, and for more money, than a home that has not been prepared to be listed. That is why real estate agents will become your number-one referral source if you choose to start a real estate listing-preparation service. Cracked windows, peeling paint, and rotten porch boards all leave a lasting impression with potential homebuyers—the wrong impression! When you see a rusty car you automatically think it must also run like junk. Homes are no different—peeling paint instantly conjures up the impression that the wood behind it must be rotten. Utilizing your handyperson skills you can conduct minor repairs, fix what needs to be fixed, and basically give your clients’ homes a general spruce-up prior to the listing. It is not uncommon for the seller to be rewarded by getting multiple times their investment back when selling, because structural and cosmetic deficiencies always add up to a lower negotiated selling price. For one set price I will fix up all odds and ends to make the house look its best before it is ready to be listed for sale. Benefits to the seller: Making the house look its best with minor repairs will add value to the house and owners will get a positive return on their quick investment.

Are the older Real Estate companies still the most successful and beneficial for agents and customers ? Older companies like Long and Foster, Coldwell Banker and Century 21 have longevity behind them, but most of them still pay the same ole' 50/50 split for agents. Now, newcomers such as Keller Williams and Exit Realty have stepped onto the scene and offer agents 70/30 splits with new and improved ways of making additional funds. Does the decades and centuries of experience in the industry still make the older companies the most reliable for customers and beneficial for new agents? Or is the lure of a higher commission split, residual income and sponsoring enough to make these new companies the better choices. Could their updated technological features better than the older companies and would that actually benefit the customers more? I'm mainly asking because I am newly licensed and have not decided if I want to go with one of the new fancy companies or the older ones
