My cat only has a stump of a tail, will it affect her balance/life?

My newly adopted black cat Magic has less than 1/3 of her tail, it was amputated when she was injured after being abandoned. Cat shelter said she should be fine doing normal cat stuff, but just checking for any imput out there for anything else i should be aware of, as you guys seem to be v knowledgeable! Thanks!

  1. It will affect her balance a little but she will go on to live a healthy life. Just like animals that loose legs, they soon forget they even had it. They also don't get hung up on the cosmetics of things like we humans do :)
  2. Not in the longrun at first he/she may be off balance at first but he/she will get used to it.
  3. Nope your cat will learn to deal with it and her balance will be just fine. Look at cats with amputated legs they do just fine jumping etc. Good Luck with your new kitten!!
  4. There is a breed of cat called Manx who doesn't have any tail, and neither does the Japanese Bobtail. Your cat will adapt just fine.
  5. The cat will adjust to the new shorter tail and be able to do everything just like she always did. Most animals adjust very well to a little change like that.
  6. I'd only worry if she starts asking you, "Does my bum look big in this?"
  7. My sister has a cat who had to have her tail amputated because it was infected. Your cat should do fine. After the operation, she might have to wear a plastic collar to prevent her from licking her rump, and that will make things awkward. My sister's cat adjusted to life without a tail quickly after getting rid of the collar, and yours should too. :)
  8. My cat had to have her tail removed and at first she was a bit unstable on her feet but after a while there wasn't really anything different. Every so often she would be a bit unstable but that didn't happen any often.
  9. She will be fine the Manx cat in born without a tail
  10. I have a manx cat with about 1.5" of a tail and he is fine. Very active, runs and climbs like crazy and has great balance, better than some of my regular long tail cats. There is no reason to think this little guy won't be just fine.
  11. It will effect her balance just a little bit but she will live good healthy life! Some people cut off their cats tails because they hate the way the cats wrubb`s its tail against your legs!
  12. it won't affect her at all look at the cats that live in a part a britain i forgot the name of they have a stump and they are ok just don't worry she will be just find
  13. She will get used to it eventually.
  14. she will adapt, you may find she isnt too keen on making big leaps or climbing big fences but other than that it wont change too much.
