Do people actually pursue happiness in their life?

It seems that most of the people do not actually pursue happiness in their lives. If so, what is the goal of their lives?

  1. I am not sure if happiness and contentment are the same thing. I may not be rich but I am content that I have a consistent though often routine job. I am at peace with my family overall. I enjoy the things I am doing and do not feel I have been left out or left behind. I try not to do everything at once so that there will still be things I haven't tried to do later. I think I will save skydiving for my retirement though.
  2. I think people pursue what they feel excited about doing, usually hapiness is within the context of being engaged within an activity or career that you really enjoy and feel 'called' to do. Even in the wrong career, you can find hapiness by just having a still mind and being in the 'now' - i practice that all the time!
  3. They do not pursue happiness because they ARE happy. They probably aren't aware of it either because if they were they'd be like tons of unsatisfied people and I and screw it up for themselves.
  4. Happiness is objective and merely a word. Sometimes you must be down and hateful before the up and happy days come shinning through. Some people pursue happiness with what they feel will make them happy. Materials to some will make them happy forever, and to some materials are worthless. I pursue my dreams where I feel I will be able to give back with most of who I am. I feel that if i pursue my dreams, I will make some sort of difference. If i never achieve my dreams, I will be proud of myself for attempting even what I did. My goal, as plain and simple as it is, is to be to others what i wish they would be to me. That is my goal, and I will be happy with myself if I stick as close to that as possible. But that goal is not my dream. That goal is my everyday motto but my dream is much greater. Something that takes a long time to journey through. I want to show the world that a helping hand, a favor, a smile and a door being held open for another is not a burden, not a stress but a way of life. I feel if i can spread my smile to someone else who needs it, I am all set. That is what makes me happy. Being happy is an everyday situation, an everyday agenda and it's all different to everyone. I hope you find your happiness and achieve whatever it is you dream to. P.S. Follow your heart.
