How does one have a successful campaign for village trustee?
The village has a population of near 500 people. Farming community, strong school system, and unfortunately everyone else must travel over 30 miles to work as local business development is discouraged.

- I would conduct a real grass roots campaign. Starting 6 months before the election go door to door and try to speak with as many homeowners as your can. With 500 people you are only talking about 200 or so homes. Take down the names and phone numbers of your supporters and ask if they would like to volunteer in your campaign. Then a week before the election mail a letter to each of your supporters and try to call them to get out the vote. Also do not forget to contact your local paper see if you can get some free publicity. Maybe you can find a reporter who will interview you. Also conduct a public hearing, speech or sponsor a group discussion at the the local hotel or meeting room. Make sure that lots of your supporters are in attendance (offering free food will help) and send a press release to the local papers. Don't forget the local chapters of the Kiwanis, Lions or VFW ask for time to deliver a speech. Finally, get to know those people who have a vested interest in your community. That would include business owners, the police and fire chiefs and the clergy. It is important to get other people involved in your campaign.
