  1. mining
  2. Cotton can survive in pretty dry conditions, rice and cattle require a water source.
  3. I would say tourists bring the most money into the Australia interior, Places like Alice Springs even have a Convention center there. There are 3 big Hotels and several campgrounds in the Ayres Rock(Ularu)area. Tour buses like to take their guests out to the Rock at evening to watch the sun set and the colors change, and enjoy a Champagne Buffet. Then at sunrise to see it looking differently. You can walk and see Kings Canyon . We stopped at one of the way stations and had lunch, I had a Camel burger, but you may have a kangaroo one if you like . I found the largest amount of tourists there were Japanese.
  4. Cattle and cotton...and tourism. I thought rice requires a lot of water.
