How do I have a successful craft fair?

I am planning a craft fair and would like tips, ideas, suggestions etc. on how to have a successful fair. It will be outside in front of 4 little shops with about 12 vendors. I also need cheap ways to advertise this event. Any thoughts??? Thanks for your help.

  1. The best way to to learn how to do craft fairs is go to one. There you can see what are good selling items and what is not. See how others have set up there booth and how they are displaying their product. Look at pricing, you'll want a few high end items as well as moderately priced and low end. Don't be pushy, let the customer look. Asking if you may be of help or are willing to answer questions is non-threatining and will not drive your customers away. Giving an unsolicited sales pitch will.Become aquaninted with the people in the four shops since you will be setting up "shop" on their turf. As a courtesy make sure you are not selling anything similar to what they have in thier shops. You do not wnat to take business away from them but draw business in so they may benefit too. As for advertising call your local newspaper and see how much it is to put a small blurb in the classified section.Mention what, where when(date and time)and if necessary brief directions. Another way is to ask the shop managers if you may post signs in their windows with information on your upcoming craft fair. You could also make single page fliers to leave with the shop people to give to thier customers. Hope all this has helped. And good luck!
