Can you be a successful Traveling Real Estate Agent?
I've been interested in a career in Real Estate for sometime and I was wondering is it possible to be successful in this career if you move every 6 months or so ( from state to state )? Has anyone ever done this before? What steps do you take to be on top of this situation? Thanks for your time.

- In most cases, you must be licensed within your "State of residence". In order to be considered a "resident", you often have to reside in that State for 12 months or longer. In ANY State, you must take and pass State approved RE Classes and the RE Exam (or in some States, at least partial classes, if you are carrying your license from another State.) So, if you move to multiple States, you will have to be re-licensed each time (in most cases). Those costs can add up. Some States have reciprocal agreements, meaning that, with some restrictions, you can either practice Real Estate across State Lines, or, if you move from one reciprocal State to another reciprocal State, your existing license carries more weight when becoming re-licensed in the new State. You may want to contact an Agent you know in your area and get advice. Laws vary from State to State. Good luck in your new career.
- That will be very challenging. You are going to have to be licensed in every state you choose to do business. Since most of our business comes from referrals and people you know, moving from place to place will make this impossible. You are going to spend alot of money getting licensed, paying dues in these various states, buying new marketing materials as you change brokerages.
- I really don't know why you would want to do this, but you may do anything you like. There will be unforeseen challenges that must be over comed. First of all putting together a team of professionals that you can depend on will be difficult. All your advertising in one area will suffer while and when you travel to the other state. Your clients in one state will also suffer while you are away in another state. Now if you have a real estate broker license in more than one state with real estate agents working for you that is a different situation. You do not have to concern yourself with the daily interpersonal relationships required to be a successful real estate agent. I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck. "FIGHT ON"
