Why, as kids, do many draw pictures of the sun with a happy face?

Public Comments

  1. Because the sun makes us happy.
  2. Because they have that wonderful, innocent outlook on life. All is happy and good. If the sun is shining, it is a happy day!
  3. because the sun is suppose to be a happy thing, but then a gain there are kids that think the sun sucks , but mainly when the sun is out every thing is happy ..
  4. because when your a kid, things are so simple. and the simplicity of the warmth of the sun makes you happy, as you grow you lose that simplicity, and the little things don't bring the joy they used to.... or because the suns on cartoons and games have a smiley face.
  5. Because the sun is bright and cheerful.
  6. yellow sun=warmth=happiness=smiley face
  7. "Sun, sun, Mr. Golden Sun..." Not too many kids are born worshipping the moon and darkness.
  8. well the sun is shaped like a circle, automatically u know a circle is a familular object. usually used for a persons face, and kids always draw people with smiles. thats my theory.
  9. they pic with the happy face only when they are happy and sun with happy ....bcoz attracts them with there light and it is easy to make. when they are unhappy they will not make happy pics try this!!!have tried alot of times
  10. circles and lines in them to represent faces are one of the earliest figures that kids draw other than stick figures. faces and eyes are the first thing that a infant focuses and recognises so it is but natural that kids draw a circle with a happy face and since the sun, moon and the sky are some of the big things a kid sees when he looks up and is shown pictures of them by eager parents, thats what a kid draws and we interpret it as a the happy smiling face of the sun.
  11. If you look into child psychology, it has been noted that children associate the sun with their father or mother (can't remember). If the sun is happy, the child is having a positive interraction with the parent. Sometimes a psychologist will ask the child to draw a house, maybe suggesting a path, and putting a snake there. Depending on how the child draws the path where he puts the snake, if there are clouds, if the sun is happy or not, the size of things, etc will mean something on the cognitive level. The subject expands vastly from a happy sun.
  12. Because of smiley face stickers. The sun is happy and warm. Kellogs raisin bran cereal has a sunshine and smiley face in the commercial.
  13. Aside from it being your basic happy image, it's a circle, and easy for children to draw.
