How do I keep my guppies happy & entertained?

I just bought 8 guppies, 6 males and 2 females. Is there anything I can get to keep my guppies feeling entertained and happy? Should I put in smooth round pebbles and underwater plants to make them feel safe & secure? My main concern is to make my guppies feel happy entertained and stress free.

  1. pebbles, rocks and plants are nice. But if I were a guppy, I would be happiest looking out of my tank and seeing a naked beautiful woman. get naked!
  2. You got it babe. Make the feel safe with rocks, plants and a feeling of security. Your a good fish mommy!
  3. If you have both male and female guppies, trust me, they'll be entertaining themselves. They are prolific breeders and bear live fry. Tank gravel is always nice, and if the colored kind suites you go for it - I doubt the guppies care - and if you're going to use live plants, you'll need a minimum 1.5 inches of gravel. Fish like the live plants - even nibble on them - and like places where they can "hide out". I have a tank full of guppies, mollies and platties, plus 6 ornamental snails, 2 clown loaches and lots of live plants. My gravel is natural colored small stone (available at any pet store) and I have one small bridge for them so swim around. Enjoy your fish - I certainly love mine!
  4. Plants are never a bad thing, they're good for security, good for the water, and frankly, look nice. You don't need to entertain them - they'll take care of that themselves - your job is just to keep things simple and do your weekly water changes and vacuuming to keep the tank clean and stable and this will make your fish happy for a long time to come.
  5. ya u have to put those, but u hav to put equal male and female fish. 3 male 3 female as a pair. its like that, they will fight 4 the female, or else. i was that time bought 4 pairs oni, now 'm having more than hundrends of them. love them... colourful, give them food twice a day. good luck.....
  6. Can you tell that they're not happy? How about buying some homes for them so they won't be homeless?
  7. Male guppies can be quite aggressive with female guppies (if you know what i mean) two or three males can "gang-up" on a female. so if you plan on having males and females together to make them happy you should have 2-3 females for every male to give the females a break from the"attention" and to make the males happy. oh yah , plants, and rocks and decorations will make them happy but more girl guppies will do it faster and better
  8. Plants are always a good idea for fish. Fish, especially small fish like guppies, are born with the instinctual knowledge that they are prey and that everything out there bigger than them probably wants to eat them. They always feel better if they have lots of places to hide. That's why plants and ornaments in a fish tank make fish happier and less stressed. Also, you have far too many male guppies for the number of female guppies you have. Guppies breed like rabbits and the males will usually chase around the females trying to mate with them constantly, even while they are pregnant. They do this by following them around and poking their noses at the female's gravid spot (that dark spot just behind the curve of their belly). If you have 2 females for each male, then the females don't get driven crazy by the males bugging them all the time as there are enough females that each can get a little peace every once in a while. That's why most breeders sell guppies in trios (one male, 2 females). Of course, you are going to have lots of guppy fry eventually, even if you only have 1 female, and most people prefer the males as they have fancier colors. If you don't want to have baby guppies, take the females back and keep only males in your tank. Otherwise, get more females, or separate the males and females or your females are going to be harassed a lot by the males and be very stressed out.
