Success Happy

How can I tell if my Lovebirds are happy?

They have been put into there new avery today and I have only had them for about 3 days and there is a male and female housed toghether, But how do I know if there really happy or not? Also I want to tame them and I seem to get as far as scratching them on the chest but I can't get them to sit on my finger.... How long should it take for them to get tame? Thank you for anyone who gave advice.

  1. Go back to the pet shop or someone who knows how as I used to clip my birds wings You have to hold the wing out in the light and cut where there is no blood running through the trunk of the feather this will force them to be on your shoulder and limit their ability to fly all over the place as you hand tame them It could happen in a day but be patient use thick leather hid gloves if Love birds are just that they love each other dont expect too much bonding to you ! IF they are happy you will know it they will be very affectionate to each other and active in their space get a mirror and a swing
  2. Hello, First....Congrats on your new lovebirds! You said you put them in a new aviary? Would that be a flight aviary or a very large cage? I don't want to disappoint you but Lovebirds are notorious for not being so "Lovey" when they are paired up. Once they bond with each other, it makes it much more difficult for us humans to handle them. If they are in a big flight aviary, it may make it even more difficult to tame them. I am assuming that this pair is an older pair, correct? (Are you certain that they are a pair?) If so, and they are already a bonded pair, you may have gotten as close as you will as long as they are housed together. If, by chance, they were handfed as chicks, then at least one of them, if not both, should be able to be hand tamed until they start breeding. You'll need to get them out and work with them daily and be patient. Some birds tame faster than others and giving you a specific amount of time that it would take, is simply impossible. Be patient, give them lots of TLC and Best Wishes to you. :)
  3. It may be difficult to tame them since they have each other. Usually when someone gets a pair it's to watch and not tame as a companion. You have only had them 3 days..don't rush it. they need to get use to the new surroundings befor they even think of you. Give them plenty of seed, pelleted food, and fresh veggies, pasta cooked, cooked rice, my lovebird likes cooked chicken and cherrios in a little milk.
