- Don't sweat the small stuff
- Have you seen the doctor? Perhaps a period of counselling would help. If you're truly depressed you can't just 'be happy' or snap out of it, you need professional help and support. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I've been a manic depressive for years, but only recently took up medication and counselling, and I'm feeling a lot better - not perfect, but able to manage my feelings better. I'd advise to see your doctor.
- volunteer, honey. it gives one a great deal of satisfaction to help others and gives you a much-needed sense of worthiness. crucial to happiness. personally, i think happiness is over-rated. peace of mind is more important
- IF you get up every morning, look in the mirror, and tell yourself that your a great person then you'll begin to believe it. It really works. sincerly Katie
- Surround yourself with people that love you. Stay positive and pray. Get out and excersies, even if you do just a simple walk around the neighborhood. Also establish a friend that can help you when you are really starting to feel down. Hope this helps.
- First of all, do a list of things you've always to do or get. Then try to do some of them. I've done this and it gives me great satisfaction when I get to cross out the ones that I've done. Exercising is good for you, because endorphins give you a happy feeling. Why don't you try joining a gym or a class? Get a dog or a cat from a shelter. Give him/her all your love and they'll love you forever. People who own pets lives longer and are happier than those who don't. Get in touch with your family and friends. Call those you haven't called in while and catch up. Get some interesting books. Wayne Dyer has a great book called Erogenous Zones.Check the Self Help section too. I hope this helps. :-)
- Get a diagnosis. There is nothing wrong with seeking help. If finances are an issue, check to find the nearest MHMR facility. In the meantime don't allow others to bother you with their little problems. Concentrate on keeping yourself busy with healthy entertainment.
- If you have been sad for two weeks or more, are withdrawing from things that you usually love, and have changed eating/sleeping patterns, then the chances are likely you have depression and you need to see a doctor. If not, find something that you love and spend more time doing it. Get out there, see the world, meet new people. Don't sit around on your butt all day.
