Why do Thai bands always play Happy Birthday?
Going out to restaurants, bars, and clubs here in Chiang Mai, Thailand, it's not uncommon to hear live music, but universally, they almost always play the song "Happy Birthday." Why is that song the one that seems to have become a Thai band staple?

- Every day is somebodys birthday in Thailand. Plus it could be the only song they know in English.
- the song is also like ` love ` , its universal
- Its one of two things, or both. It could be the only song they know in English, but I doubt that, as all bands in Thailand know a few songs in Thailand. Most likely its someone's birthday. Most Thai's only go out to celebrate something, otherwise they will eat at a noodle or food stand.
- Most likely because it's someone's birthday, but I would guess some bands play the song because they like it or think people like to hear it, plus it's an easy song to play. Along with the song Hotel California, I think it's one English language song all Thai bands know how to play. I've been to a lot of birthday parties here in Thailand and people who don't otherwise speak a word of English, all know how to sing the song Happy Birthday in English.
- I have just returned from Pattaya where Happy Birthday was played every night at the restaurant where we had our meal because it was always someone's birthday.Lets face it what ever nationality you are you can all join in and sing.I think you will find it is played in every country even in Kenya when I stayed there quite a few years ago, the waiters played it on bongo's and sang to the beat of the bongo's.
