Is it OK to only give a friend for their birthday a card for 50 cents that says "Happy Birthday" on it?
If someone gave me that on my birthday I would view it as a really nice thought because I don't even expect anyone to do anything at all for me!

- i would think its OK!
- I don't see why not. However, if my friend had given me a gift for my birthday, I would feel a bit embarrassed about not reciprocating in an equal manner.
- if ya'll aren't very close then sure, otherwise it doesn't look so good
- I think it depends on the meaning behind the card. If the meaning is "I don't care", don't bother with the card. If the meaning behind the card is "I care; I'm just broke" then I think your friend will know you're broke and appreciate the thought behind the gift. If you're getting a "50 cents" card to be funny, don't. It might hurt your friend's feelings. HTH
- 50 cents? That sound tacky and cheap. I know it's the thought that counts... and I don't expect people to spend a forture on gifts... But still, 50 is not decent. I would instead give my friend a nice telephone call, a meaninful card or sms, make dinner for my friend... or something like that... As I said, money is not an issue... but if I got 50 cents I would wonder if this person is trying to hint at something... I would much prefer just to receive a telephone call or a home made card or or an email/ecard or something which is meaningful and does not cost anything.
- i hope youre going to put a box of chocolates under that card.
