Success Happy

any advice on how to keep a bunny happy and healthy??

I know mostly to give your bunnies TLC, but I want to learn more, or hear about your experiences with bunnies! Thanks!

  1. I had a rabbit many years ago, he lived 12 years. He was one of the best pets I have ever had. I gave him run of the home plus as a bonus he was litter box trained. To keep him happy, I would give him treats of bananas and maple leaves. He also had a love of popcorn. Be careful not to over fed these treats. Now the one love of his life was a dog, which you need to be careful with as dogs can be rough. He loved my dog so much, that when she passed away he stayed in his hutch for a full week!!! I felt so bad as he actually morned her passing. Rabbits are great pets.
  2. Well...once upon a time we got our children two rabbits for Easter. The breeder assured us that he had given us two females. To make them "happy" I put them in a pen in the back yard. I secured it real well and put their cage in it and left the door open. Well LuLu and Rosey had other plans. I went out there one day and Lulu had dug a tunnel beneath her cage. I saw a small rabbit dart back in to the hole. Turns out she had seven babies. I had to get a shovel and dig them out. Before I could get them out they added another foot to the tunnel before I could catch them. Later on Lulu and Rosey escaped again and moved over to the neighbors yard and as far as I know he still feeds them. They've gone semi wild. Lulu once she had babies became very aggressive and would scratch the heck out of you if you came near the babies. Rosey was much more relaxed. Give them alfalfa and fresh veggies and rabbit pellets.
  3. i own a rabbitry and i give my rabbits lots of toys.her is a list of toys u can let ur bunny play with. (1). box(totally edible if cardboard) (2). baby toy keys(plastic) (3). a piece of wood that will fit in its cage (4). toy cat ball toys(plastic and no holes) (5). coke can boxes(12 can boxes) and her is a list of things u can give ur bunny to keep it healthy. (1). timothy hay (2). oats or steam rolled oats (3). rabbit pellets at a feed store. and a tip is that u should never get Dumor brand food. I started to feed it to my rabbits and it started to make them skinny. it also killed one of my liters. also to make ur rabbits fur better is to get a wired cat brush and brush it every day. hope i helped. =-B horselover99
  4. Make sure to give your bunny plenty of hay and pellets. The occasional treat is fine as well. Bunnies love to play! Mine loves anything cardboard as well as the plastic jingle balls made for cats. I have given him an old pop carton and he made it into a tunnel! You never know what they will do.
  5. So, i have a very happy bunny here. i take him for walks all the time and let him get the fresh air. Also, recommended by some vets, i give him vitamin drops in his water. The vets say you should change their food and water daily, and rabbits drink a lot of water in a day. Keep plenty of toys on hand, and make sure you have things for the rabbit to chew on. Also, rabbits love fruits and veggies. Use fruits as a treat and give the bunny a combination of veggies daily. Try to switch them up though, and never to many. This'll keep your bunny happy and healthy. Giving the bunny vitamin drops and fruits and veggies will give it the proper amount of vitamins that it needs because the drops don't give them everything. Otherwise the ones above are all good ideas too.
  6. i have had lots of rabbits in the past and most of them stay content if they have fresh food like grass apples and dandylion leaves but dont give them too many they can get diahrirra from it. make sure they get plenty of space to run around in and a clean envioroment to sleep in. they like flavoured wood sticks to gnaw on and large tunnels to explore. if they have anouther rabbit friend they live happy and not lonely. they will except a new rabbit friend at almost any age. bringing your rabbit indoors in the winter is a good option as well. :)
  7. I recommend www.rabbit.org as it has a lot of information about rabbits.
