How do I locate certain international marriage records online?

I am trying to find out whether someone I know got married in the United States or not -- and when. How can I find out and which website? Most importantly, is this free? :)

1. You would need to know the County, City or State in which they got married and go to their website and find out if that information is online or not. You can try googling their names together too.
2. The operative word there is "know" meaning present tense, living persons. In the genealogy field giving out private information on living persons is unethical. Genealogy is about researching dead ancestors. Your question may have better results in some other category.
