A 94 year old man who worked all his life for his?
Local council has had his meals on wheels stopped. He can't get up the stairs without help, he has to sleep downstairs, his wie died many years ago and his baby daughter got killed in the blitz. Is this right and fair to treat an old man who has worked hard for his country and suffered so much like he's a burden. This service was stopped because he could, using his walking stick to balance on, stand on one foot. This is a shocking disgrace to see what this country is turning in to. What are your views on this?

- He'll be robbed soon any way, then at least he will get a room.
- Hi Casey You are right on this. The way the senior members of our society, to whome we owe so much, are treated is sickening. Teenage yobs get free holidays, paid to go to school and given every aid - those who built our countrry are thrown on the scrapheap.
- I don't believe that meals on wheels would be stopped for this reason.....perhaps you could tell us where this information is published and what the council's response was.
- It is shocking. This is one of the worst countries in the world in the way they deal with the elderly. The very core of society who made this country what it is. Unlike the layabouts, junkies and the like who have been feeding of this country without putting a penny into it. There is more done for them than anyone else in this country. It is shameful!! Our ancesters must be turning in their graves!!
- I fully agree with you Casey S. It is a "shocking disgrace." Nevertheless; unfavourable publicity 'shockwaves' are embarassing (as I write this) Alec's Local Authority nitwits, into, taking remedial action, before a High Court Judge, ensures, that, they do.
- unfortunately there are way to many hardship cases' , regarding our pensioners.. it's about time the government gave them a decent lifestyle in return for all the good they did for their country.. and the taxes they paid all their working lives'.
- That I need more information before coming to a conclusion, the way meals on wheels works around here that certainly wouldn't be a reason to halt it, so frankly I wonder about the veracity of this story. More and more stuff like this is circulating these days, and it often turns out that they are so factually incorrect as to be nothing more than bad propaganda. If true this sounds outrageous. If true...
- No its not right i saw that gent on the tv he has all his wits about him i think its wrong what they are doing but iwas a nurse until the 14th of january after 12 years and thats partly why i had to leave but i think all of us should speak up and get this changed.
- what council is this?
- It all stems from central government directives, these are the same parasites who are paying their sons taxpayers money to do imaginary "jobs". http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7214573.stm They have no shame.
- Do you have a link? I cant comment until I have read the source.
- it is truley a disgrace... and to the woman who says they wouldnt have stopped the mow for no reason.... you need to wake up!! you worked for social services, so we could expect that response from you.
- Why don't you move him in with you. Show everone how much you really care.
- as this government is giving so much money away to foreigners http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/33067 then its understandable that there isnt enough left to look after our elderly. our elderly people who fought wars to give us adecent life. its shocking that this is happening .
- Its a disgrace, and look at all those wasters out there on DLA
- I saw this on the news and was going to post this too. Its upsetting that the elderly get such a bad deal. Heather F Do I fall into that category of a time waster as I get DLA?
- I too saw this on the news. It is an absolute disgrace that a gentleman of this age, who has served his country, worked all his life and paid all his dues should be treated this way. Shame upon the members of his local council, they must in all humanity, review this case and reach another decision. This just goes to show what atrocious levels our once great and fair country has sunk to!
- It is a disgrace, but local councils appear to be staffed by penpushers and run by bean counters. No doubt the outcry will lead to a change of decision in this case, but they will do it again, for sure.
- It is absolutely despicable.
- to me this is very wrong meals on wheels i think you have to pay for them so i don't know why they stopped them unless he did not pay for them but at that age he should get them for free i think this is down to local services they should be seeing that he is OK, at that age people start slowing down i hope he appeals but to day its i,m alright jack for get you
- The long term answer is to vote out this despicable Government, which treats old people (or anyone else, come to that) in this way.
- he should learn how to stand on both feet, he will need to now.
- I saw this on the news which prompted me to ask a similar question. this is disgraceful. That poor man more than likely fought for us in the war and this is the treatment he gets. The immigrants are treated better. CAN I JUST ADD TO THOSE WHO DON'T BELIEVE THIS. IT WAS NOT INFORMATION THAT WAS "FOUND" IT WAS ON THE ITN NEWS AT 6.30. THE OLD MAN WAS INTERVIEWED
- The world has never been fair. Unless you/we know the whole story. Perhaps he refuses help.
- I don't know which council your referring to , it could well be a Conservative council. My brother was killed in the war time blitz. I did my national service , worked 50 years without time off , and my council treats me extremely well and could not wish forr better. My parents [both passed on of course] were in dread fear of falling ill because they could not afford a doctor under a Conservative government until a Labour government gave us a free national health fo all. Sorry to get political but it's the truth. You can of course check out what I'm saying with your computer. SILVER SURFER aged 74.
- It's a disgusting way to treat an old person. Sadly, it's not uncommon
- too many elderly have to rely on ,friends ,neighbours and family.what about the ones who have no one are they just left to get on with it
