Has anyone tried automatic story generation?
This is so funny- you put in random words and the story is made up for you. www.geoffrey.com.au/story.htm (you need to know what a noun, adjective, verb are) My first attempt - this is what I got! One morning, in the whistling Springs eye, 12 flowers crept aboard a Ford Ka going to Sydney. washed, mindless and very unhappy, the wheels decided to poke fun at a bonnet wearing a hood. The lorry stops and a dirty young Window cleaner gets in, alone, and happily unaware that the shoes are about to strike. But there is more to this young Dentist than meets the eye. When 4 teeth catch the hearse further down the track, the balance of power takes an unexpected twist and many lives are lost. Yes, I know it makes no sense - but, bits of it are quite good.

- Sounds like stories my students write. (This particular generator will be taboo on Mars). We must be on the same wavelength. Phoenix will be writing a poem later.
- Lol very funny, i have just had a go-here is mine !!! Phillipe Phillope and I went shopping at the mall today in Deauville. We got 4 bargains! We bought cheese to repair that leaky roof and umbrellas as a present for my mom. We also got some melting diamonds for the car. When Lucille saw what I bought at Victoria's Secret they said, "Falling in a hole!" I was very concerned about that. That's ok, though. Once I saw the crisp they bought for their kitchen I couldn't stop laughing. Especially since they paid $17 for it! We ended up eating pot noodle in the food court before we came home.
- Oh, stories generated like that are called 'Maniacdotes'. Or at least I THINK that's the proper term for it. But since this is a yes or no question, that I'm supposed to answer whether I've tried it before, 'Yes'.
- I have tried it and they are hilarious. It teaches me how NOT to write --- senseless and randomly. But it's good laughs for rainy days. Not good for homework though, believe me you! :)
- Oh Yes... I did that as an English project in University. Had the members of the class submit words and phrases on papers, in secret and randomly and then we broke into groups of three and put them together with some colourful standard language from Aesop's Fables. The result was a complete failure. I was the only one who appreciated creating nonsense from a marriage of well chosen wickedly serious works and geek blather. There was only one or two from a class of 25 that thought it was a worthy exercise. This was fifteen years ago. This is impossible to do alone but is a perfectly ridiculously method of jump starting a cobwebbed brain.Thank you for sharing the site. I will be using it to prepare the canvas I need to create or invent. my attempt this morning involved an astronaut and an oxcart in an autumn storm with bicycles in a twist causing many deaths. Cool!
- I know I'm no author, but for this to be the first (only) story I ever write... how embarrassing. My Story by Superminion Ghostwritten by geoffrey.com.au One oh-dark-thirty in the morning, in the strange autumns eye, forty-two birds crept aboard a penny-farthing bicycle going to Sydney. smelled, dauntless and very unhappy, the rocks decided to poke fun at a brick wearing a head. The rocket-powered sled mounted on rollerblades stops and a ugly young Chief Secretary to the Secretary in Chief gets in, alone, and quietly unaware that the noses are about to strike. But there is more to this young Managing Supervisor of Product Encapsulation and Quality Control than meets the eye. When four packages catch the amphibious car further down the track, the balance of power takes an unexpected twist and many lives are lost. That was heaps of fun, thanks! I think in future, though, I'll seek out Roald Dahl's 'Great Automatic Grammatizator' if I want a machine that can write books for me. Tempting though it is to print this out and send it to a publisher... :D
- Lol! That was really funny. Look why I got! A trip to the beach Yesterday, Benjamin and I went to the beach. We had a really stupid time! First, we stared with my egg. Then we ran down to the ocean and went digging. Afterward, we barbequed some chips for lunch. Before the sun set we had time to venture on the stone. We were really cool to come home. We are hoping to go to the beach again soon! Cool page, thnx a lot! ;-)
- Yes. Did that years ago with my children. Had no idea there was a name for it. Still, occasional if I should tear rather than shred written work, I venture to read some of the pieces. Usually, it making no sense at all, I toss without laughing and say,"whew, what nonsense!" LOL. Edit - I found it more interesting to begin a story and let each one of us continue adding parts until we came up with something or ended up laughing.
- That was great, I'm still smiling. ..~♥*RaeRae*♥~..
- That was interesting. I think you are meant to use the same word when it asks for a type of vehicle several times but it is funnier with different ones. Thank you for the site I have passed it to my sister to give her a laugh too.
