Is it possible to have a successful long distance business relationship with your graphic designer?

.. without meeting in person? Can all the correspondence be done over the internet/phone as I have found somebody that is really talented but he lives in America.

1. Talent is only one part of the equation. Communication is key. You need to be able to reach each other whenever necessary. If he's slow to respond to emails and phone calls, then it might not be a good idea. If, however, he's responsive to your communications (and you to his) and he's sharp on his deadlines, then it shouldn't be a problem. I'm an art director and I work with plenty of illustators, photographers and designers that I have never met in person. If they meet the criteria, I keep using them, but I always have a back up if they drop the ball.
2. Yes. Outsourcing is all about getting working from some where else. We are doing courseware for a client in US. We set up a server for the client and they upload their requirements and the instructions in a MS word format. We download the same , work on the specifications and then upload the courseware to the server. The client downloads the files and checks the same. I have not seen the client so far. But we do have weekly telephonic meetings to discuss the quality, timelines etc. As a supplier, I keep more than one person on the project, so that the work never suffers due to the resignation of the person or some other unforeseen problems. We have done work for a Middle East client, with out actually going there. Then there iis a site called 'Rentacoder.com', where the companies/individuals can post the project and/or bid for the project. In this era of Internet, this possible. 3. Absolutly possible! I work this way... You can not work via the internet with a doctor or a lawyer, but with a designer it is not a problem at all.. sometimes it is even better. Without eye contact you can be sure that your relationship will be only bisuness... so it is somehow a good way of working
