was Ross Perot the most successful independent candidate ever?
in the 1992 USA general election independent candidate Ross Perot garnished 18.9% of the popular vote. Has there ever been a better independent result?

- No. Others have done much better. In 1968, George Wallace won a few states. Also Strom Thurmond did well in 1948.
- Teddy Roosevelt left the Republicans and formed his own Bull Moose Party; I believe he came in second in the 3 way race
- No. Teddy Roosevelt got 27.3% of the popular vote, won 6 states, had 88 electoral votes and finished 2nd in 1912 running as a Progressive. Perot got no Electoral College votes. George Wallace won five states, got 46 Electoral votes with 13.5 % of the popular vote in 1968.
- If by successful, you mean he was responsible for putting Bill Clinton in the White House, yes. (Thanks a lot Perot, you idiot)
