Interview panel doing "H.R. check" before they can confirm successful candidates?

I went for an interview on Tuesday. The interview panel told me that they would phone the following day to let me know if I had the job. She phoned the following day and said that they needed to do certain HR checks before they confirm anything and it would take as long as it took! I have had previous contract terminated but told them all about this and they seemed unconcerned. I cannot figure out if this is good or bad!! Please help me?

1. Don't panic. There are a lot of people looking for jobs right now so they're probably moving a little slower in their process then they originally promised. They're probably checking your background, references, and confirming past employment history. All this takes time especially if they have to wait for call backs.
