In what ways do political candidates seek to manipulate the media? How successful are?

1. They do it cleverly. If they did it openly, nobody would be fooled. Manipulation is by its very nature subversive.
2. They use the "sound bite" They throw a sound bite out there, with much ambiguity that forces the media to continue to ask questions of them (to promote their message) or their opponent, (attack politics).
