When a somewhat successful local band plays a bar or a private party, how much money do they get paid?

  1. It depends from club to club, but my band can get anywhere from $100-$500 a night.
  2. The anser above is great, but usually this is a tough question with lots of variables... For instance, how long are you playing, and who is paying you? Your friends at a party, an all nighter at a public establishment like a restaraunt, or one set with 3 other bands at a bar? How many people is your band bringing in the door? This directly relates to how much the venue should pay you. You can get a good idea about how much you're worth by playing for the cover charge at the door (whatever is taken in at the door, goes to the band) Sometimes it's $100, sometimes it's $500. Sometimes, the bar sells so much alcohol, that they make a ton of money, and want you to come back and play for a flat fee. When I was playing, I always looked at the NEXT gig. If we performed well at a bar or restaraunt, then we would be certain to be invited back, and we could negotiate a price. Whatever you do, be sure to make the payment arrangement BEFORE you play, and don't back down if someone ties to stiff you on a pre-arranged deal.
