How do I start my business again, only this time with positive results?

I am a 28 year old licensed cosmetologist. Doing hair and making people beautiful is my passion in life. I have booth rented in the past and the results were not so good. I gained some clientelle but most times it seems as though I was working to pay booth rent. I stopped because I became disgusted with the whole thing. However I enjoy working for myself and I am truly happy doing it , so I desperatly want to start over and this time be successful. Is there any wise and sound advice out there for me?

1. Offer in home sessions if legal in your state. Check with your assisted living locations and nursing homes - I imagine some of the elderly ladies would love your services but can't get out due to physical limitations.
2. I don't know how the industry works, but I know that my mom used to go to her beautician's house and she had a whole set-up in one of her rooms. I know a lot of my mom's friends started going after she told them about it, I'm pretty sure that you can build on that. You can even get some nice tax deductions for a lot of the stuff (you can even write off the part of the rent!).
3. The first tow answers are great. You also need to educate yourself on business and build a side (a piggy-back) business to support your main business. Good Luck!!
