What should be taught to a student to become successful in life?
What are the things that would effect his behavior apart from education. I seriously believe that there is some thing more than education which the student needs to have to become a responsible child and citizen. Please make the points clear.

- good habits, patience, and helping mentality.
- after bunking a class and turning up late for another, one teacher once said to me "you will either take my advice or dismiss it. whatever you choose to do it makes no difference to me. i get paid whether you turn up to class or not, pass or fail. no skin off my back" i realised that she was right. and i might as make sure that the school got their damn money's worth! i never skipped that class again and it was one of my top grades.
- You don't need to be a schollar to be successful. Education and grades will tend to play a part initially but for the most part you will go further with a good attitude willingness to work and go the extra mile. Above all do something you like or are passionate about and you will be successful within yourself and possibly within your bank account.
- for a good student and hence a good citizen we need strong character. it includes--honesty,integrity, hard work sincerity, intelligence and attitude. try to find his aptitude and then give him chances for the enhancement of that aptitude. age you have not given---send him in summer in yoga camp.he is to learn pranayam exercises---deep meditation asans. this will help him to concentrat in studies and will sharpen his memory---- iwish him best of luck. p.s. if you are in india and his father take care of his company.
- My son graduated from The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, a residential high school. http://www.ncssm.edu/ Apart from very challenging coursework, these are the other things they taught all of their students: 1. Acceptance of diversity All cultures are welcomed, & considered to be worthy of respect. 2. Social consciousness The students were encouraged to participate in activities which promote the common good. Such activities were made available to them. 3. Home responsibility The students were given chores to do on a weekly basis. These chores were in addition to keeping their rooms clean. They rotated chores such as vaccuming the halls, mopping, etc. The general rule was, "Keep it clean, or lose privileges." For example, if their lounge wasn't kept clean, the administration would lock it up for days. 4. Internalized disicpline The students were required to attend a 3-hour study session, after classes & chores. They had to attend "Super Study" (supervised) Mon.-Thurs. for the 1st semester. If they kept good grades, they could be taken off Super Study at the 2nd semester. 5. Respect for authority was a given. 6. The value of work In addition to home chores, they also had to do physical, unpaid work on campus. 7. Importance of faith Although, of course, the school couldn't teach religion, they did everything in their power to make it available to these 16 year olds, living away from home. The school offered these clubs: Fellowship of Christian Students Colours Gospel Choir Many local churches were within walking distance. 8. Values & Sacrifice The sudents were not allowed to have a television in their rooms, or a car on campus. They were taught that they were there to learn. They had curfews, and had to go in pairs if they walked anywhere off-campus. Now a Junior at UNC-CH, my son has carried these values with him. (He had no problems at NCSSM, since these were the same things I had taught him as well.) What a wonderful world it would be if all schools could teach these skills to students!
