  3. "The Birthday Song," was written by sisters Mildred & Patti Hill. Little did they know that they would create what the Guinness Book of World Records has called "the most popular song ever." The tune came from a song they had composed in the 1890's, but it was Patti who changed the lyrics and copyrighted the song in 1935. The copyright survives to this day and still generates royalties any time the song is performed on radio or TV. It is thought the large-scale celebration of birthdays in Europe began with the non-Christian cult of Mithras(a myster religion), which originated in Persia, and was spread by soldiers throughout the Roman Empire. Such celebrations were uncommon previously so practices from other contexts such as the Saturnalia(the feast with which the Romans commemorated the dedication of the temple of the god Saturn) were adapted for birthdays. Because many Roman soldiers took to Mithraism, it was distribution widely and its influence was spead throughout the empire until it was supplanted by Christianity. This is wot i kw..Hope this helped u. n ya wish u a very happy birthday!!
