What is happiness, where does it come from and how do we achieve happiness?

I am doing a research paper on happiness and I need people's input on: 1. What happiness is? 2. Where does happiness come from? 3. Is happiness always with you or does it come and go? 4. How do you obtain happiness? Thank you for answering these questions. If you have any questions please e-mail me.

  1. Happiness is akin to joy but is not the same as joy, and it comes from inside you. As Sheryl Crow sings, "It's not having what you want/It's wanting what you've got." Happiness comes and goes; joy abides. Happiness has to do with circumstances, while joy is an approach to life.
  2. Happiness is a state of mind. It is internal and not a thing that can be bought or got from outside. happiness can be achieved by contentedness with what one has already. desires are the killers of happiness, as long as one has desires one cannot be happy. read the teachings of the Buddha.. eternal happiness is possible fr the spiritually refined and one who has learn to control his/her desires.
  3. 1. What happiness is? Accepting everything as it is. 2. Where does happiness come from? It comes from seeing things clearly without judgment. 3. Is happiness always with you or does it come and go? The potential for happiness is always there, but sometimes I get caught up in my fears. 4. How do you obtain happiness? I like to exercise and listen to music and look at art. I like to be around good people. I try to recognize my thoughts and feelings and be aware of them and my judgments. I try to see things clearly and take action on the things I can change, but try to accept the things I cannot change. For example: Sometimes when I'm walking I am aware that I feel disturbed. I will say to myself, "I'm aware that I feel disturbed" and this allows me to see my disturbance and yet I'm also, at the same time, aware that I am grateful for many things in my life and not just wrapped up in my feeling of disturbance. The problem happens when I say to myself, "I SHOULDN'T FEEL disturbed". If I feel disturbed AND I feel I should feel great, now I have TWO problems.
  4. For everyone it is different. For me, incorporating the 8 Limbs of Yoga into my life is helping me along... http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/yoga-and-health/yoga-lifestyle.asp Take a look. See if it sparks your interest. Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities. Aldous Huxley. Devote yourself to something and you are likely to find it when you least expect somewhere during that journey. I find myself unhappy when I feel like I lack a purpose. As humans, we tend to feel useless/confused/inferior without a purpose. Yesterday I was listening to those "TED" talks(interesting/inspiring), which led me to this youtube video after searching kinetic sculpture(mechanical moving sculptures). Some of them are quite beautiful and this is when i realized, these machines are amazing in themselves despite the fact that they "lack" what our culture would perceive as a specific purpose or function. They justify their own existence by the simple act of just existing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8CDjui6Yvo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVRdUV6YumQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnSi-7gS7-w Hope this gave you some perspective towards the understanding of happiness, however vague it may be.
  5. All good things come from our heavenly Father.Joy,peace Love.We have opportunities in our time on earth to serve each other and learn. Blessings are predicated upon our obedience to his commandments. When we choose to be sinful,we drive away our companion of the holy spirit. The divine,Inspired intelligence we experience is the holy spirit. The times you are compelled to comfort and ease the pain of one that mourns. We get stronger, more competant. When you are in the presence of an expert or master craftperson .They make hard tasks look easy.Graceful even. Like it was meant just for you.Fullfilling your purpose. We would go most anywhere,to feel like we belong!
