My friend's little 8 year old cousin just cut a happy face into her leg??? What is going on in her mind?

When we asked her why she did it, she said her parents were arguing and she did it to feel better. At first she said she didnt know, and then she said that. She said she wanted to see a happy face. What do you think this means??? She did it with a regular table knife & it looked like she really worked at it even though it will probably heal in like a day or two. Nobody else we know or anyone in her family does that.

sounds like she is having some kind of a psychological issue. did you see other cuts on her body? has there been any arguing among her household? Do you know the school where she goes too? Speak with her school guidance councilor or psychologist to let them know something is odd about her behavior. Call social services if you think there is something going on in her home.
i think its nothing little kids are curious and exploring there physical abilities and the world i remember 5 years ago when i was 8 i sowed with a needle and thread my favourite football teams colours in a very light layer of skin on my hand and it meant nothing i was neither sad or happy so dont stress im sure its just exploring
I think she should see a doctor of some sort...
First of all, she had to of seen someone else cutting into themself..How would an 8 year old child know of such a terrible self inflicting and painful thing such as that. She evidently relates her families troubles to being her fault or some weird emotion. No one knows the emotional trauma inside of this child and she needs help soon. This is just the start of something awful to come if it isn't taken care of.
