Work Life Balance - how many hours do you work, should you work and how much leisure time should we have?

I think most people who work full-time actually work more hours than they need to live. What are your thoughts on the amount of time you work and the amount of time you have for doing other things. Home life isn't just about family, but also friends, hobbies , chilling out, studying and learning new things. We may be bored doing nothing - but there might be more to life than just our jobs. Your thoughts in as much intimate detail as you like, please.

  1. Well..People in West do work more hours than they need. While it is important to build your career, you also need some time for yourself. I used to work like it’s the only thing in life…then realised one day that even if I die tomorrow, my office will go on. I still work…but I plan my day ahead and set priorities so that I don’t have to work extra hours. Home life is not only about family, friends and learning…..just take leave for a day and spend time doing nothing. Just be alone and spend a totally leisure time. No family chores, no friends…just spend the time with yourself…you will feel refreshed. You can catch up with friends quite often….you can go to lunch with them taking an hour break from office. Deadlines will always be part of life…learn how to manage them.
  2. as long as I can pay my bills and see my friends, I'm OK. Life is too short. If you save for a pension - as we're advised - with, for example, Stocks and Shares ISAs - you'll lose all your money anyway. Everyone gets a State pension - my parents are very happy with what they get.
