Where can I find a New York resident's marriage records online for free (through the state website)?

Can this be done, or will I have to go to the county clerk's office and pay for an official copy when I don't need it? Thanks!

1. Depends. Is the person dead? If he is then you may be able to find it on websites like Ancestry.com (you have to pay, but many public libraries have a subscription to it, you can also sometimes ask people on the Genealogy section to look it up for you). If they are alive, you are going to have a hard time trying to acquire it, as privacy laws prohibit them from releasing them to any old person without a good reason. Cheers! ©2008 SinisterMatt.
