How much of a requirement is it to have an inflated ego for the really successful people in the world?

The CEO's, the politicians, the millionaires, and other really successful people seem to have a big ego to help them get to where they are in life. Is this a requirement? How can a person become very successful without having a big ego?

1. by being humble and loving which almost never happens once you realize you have power and $$$
2. By redefining 'success' as something other than wealth and power.
3. getting there doesn't necessarily require a big ego, but once you're 'there' it's hard to ignore the power, the prestige, and the accolades that go along with the responsibility. remembering the work required to get 'there', and the possibility that it all could disappear just as easily someday might help keep a big ego in check, or at least whittle it down to a healthy size. maybe that's what people mean when they say someone is keeping true to their roots. grounding yourself by surrounding yourself with level-headed people and staying true every day to a goal you set for yourself might also keep the ego smaller than it would be otherwise. but often, success breeds success, and one of the fruits of success is pride in a job well done.
