How do I search birth, death, and marriage records from Afghanistan?

Also how do I search census records and other records of genealogical value. Specifically I mean online.

1. Check Ancestry.com. It's not free, however check out their website to see if they have some records for Afghanistan.
2. This is a good one, Tim. The Taliban did keep some of such records for a few years, but before they left the government in a bit of a hurry, they burned many records to prevent that those of them in positions of authority could be traced to family members. (They knew coalition forces would check those records to track them down). A more reliable method of locating records have been put in place by the new Afghan government, but you must request it through them only. The last time I checked, they did not allow access through third parties. Hopefully that may have changed by now.
