How do I search birth, death, and marriage records from China?

or any other record of genealogical value that is located in China

  1. http://www.familysearch.org (the Mormon--LDS--site) lists countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, including China. The listings, however, are names posted from family trees submitted to them. Usually at the bottom of the listings, it will say "SUBMITTER INFO" and to the right you can click "Check details" and the person's name and address is shown.
  2. Well this is different! Cyndi's List, the premier collection of genealogical links, doesn't even have a listing for China. However, I have found these sites which I hope will be useful to you:- http://genealogy.about.com/od/china/China.htm http://distantcousin.com/Links/Ethnic/China/ http://genforum.genealogy.com/china/ http://houseofchinn.com/ChineseGenealogy.html http://www.fuzzo.com/genealogy/Asia/chinagen.htm http://www.gendir.com/locales/3654 http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~chnwgw/ The houseofchinn site is very interesting and has lovely pictures. I have not so far found out how you search birth, death and marriage records specifically, but hopefully a persusal of these sites will lead you to the right place. If not, just google:- genealogy china. I have now learnt that a Chinese family tree is called a Jia Pu.
