Success Happy

Flowering plants develop colours, scents and other traits that are successful in attracting pollinators. Why?

  1. Bleeding obvious.
  2. They do this because it works, and what works succeeds. The more successful species predominate. It's a case of natural selection.
  3. I don't think it's nearly as obvious as "Einstein" here makes it out to be. Something common between the pollinators and the flowers is to blame. Maybe it's the minerals in the earth that both the pollinators and the flowers have an abundance of. Certain minerals create different effects in color and scent. I think the environment is what adapts the species and not the species that adapt the environment. I don't necessarily believe in natural selection as it has been known. I think that something very fundamental is to blame and not the complex network of life. I think the network of interrelated species is an effect rather than a cause.
  4. This belongs to the Science And Mathematics>Biology or Botany section. lol I'm guessing you want to know facts about your question, not theories or opinions, so go to the above mentioned sections, because this section (Philosophy), people only theorize, analyze and opine, so it's very hard to look for empirically-proven facts. And also, unlike the natural science that is exact, philosophy, social science and the humanities are probabilistic in nature.
  5. It cannot be absolutely true that Flowering plants develop (things)...that ARE SUCCESSFUL in attracting..." What about all those THAT ARE NOT SUCCESSFUL? Or do you just want some(any old) philosophy to back up what sounds very much like, this neo-darwinist botanical science! If so....Why??
  6. You answer your own question, POLLINATOR . Reproduction !
  7. because we have eyes that creates the colors and an olfactory organ that creates the smells. the universe is only what is sensed. since WE are the SENSOR, we are the ones creating the colors and the smells. After all, our olfactory organs are really just "FEELING" the shape of a molecule and it's turned into a "smell" inside our brain. There IS no smell. It's an ARTIFACT. An ARTIFICIAL fact. Same with color. An electromagnetic spectrum going from 4000 to 7000 millimicrons or whatever happens to stimulate the nerve endings inside our ocular chamber and that excitation is turned into a "color" inside our brain. None of what you think is here is really here. In fact HERE doesn't even exist without you. YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE.
  8. this sounds like a homework question. but anyways they do this because they need to pollinate so they care procreate. the spermies need to get with the eggs so that there can be baby plants. that is why the sex talk is sometimes called telling someone about the birds and the bees as those are the two major players in the pollination and dispersement of seeds.
  9. Plants create these things without "conscious" intent. The answerer that said the things in the environment were the cause is probably correct. But once plant A is pollinated as a direct cause of the color or scent, and plant B is ignored and dies, a correlation exists. But plant A did not set out to deliberately attract the pollinator any more than you set out to attract a mosquito, or to use pheremones to attract a mate. Did you have anything to do with your pheremones?
  10. -Read Darwin, evolution, there are explanations but also some exceptions are there ,we have to start new laboratory analysis once again ,it is a good topic -You know that you can write E mail messages to me through this section by clicking the word e mail which is visible if you click my name here to open my profile
