What traits should the next leader of the Republican party have?

Should they be a hardcore, far-right unapologetic conservative? A pragmatic moderate? Someone who is smart on business? Foreign Policy? What traits do they need to have to be successful?

The voters have made it quite clear, they are sick and tired of phony "religious" leaders trying to gain votes through discrimination against choice, women and gays. The tide has turned. If the R's understand this and run to the center, they have a shot. If they follow Palin, Jindal, the Huckster and Newt down the rabbit hole, and Obama turns the economy around, the R's are finished.

11. I think the country is getting tired of the far-right conservative. All you have to do is look at some of the questions being asked by conservatives on this site to see the lack of education and the total ignorance of history, geography, and religion. The GOP will be history if they don't find a moderate who is well versed in business and foreign policy.
12. Honesty for a start. And that is for any party. The Republican needs to go back to the constitution and remember they work for us, they answer to us. If the republicans do not become more conservative, many voters will go to the libertarians.
13. Apparently he needs to be a charismatic figure who makes a good speech. Political experience doesn't matter so much.
