Who are the people who study ancient tribes?

I am doing a report on the Olmecs, (an ancient Mesoamerican tribe) and I am trying to finish this sentence: ____believe that successful farming led to...... ( ____ is what I'm missing) I was wondering if anyone knew what I should put there. I think the place I read it from said something like "scholars of" and something else. I was thinking of putting archaeologists but I wasn't sure.

2. Archaeologists study ancient peoples, so that would be a perfectly acceptable answer. I'm not sure what would come after "scholars of". Mesoamerican culture, maybe? Agricultural history? They'd still be archaeologists, though, most likely.
