How much do photographers get paid?

i was thinking about going in to photography, but i want to be successful and i want make money, to support 3 kids when i get older and i dont want to have to depend on my husband for money. So how much do photographers get paid????

1. What type of photographer? Freelance. Portrait. Commercial. Editorial. ETC.?
2. Can I ask if you are already knowledgeable on how to use an SLR camera properly (ie you know what you are doing on a fully manual camera with ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speeds etc) and if you are, do you have all your own equipment?. Because if you do not own any of the appropriate equipment, it could take you a hell of a long time to even pay back the money for the price of the equipment you will need (thousands of dollars). and if you do not even know how to use a camera (I am not talking using a Sony Cybershot to take a photo of the dog, I am talking about photography skills), then you are looking at at LEAST 2 years or more of learning, schooling and practice. ++++ If you already have your own equipment, and know how to use it, then please forgive me.. I have to ask! :o) .
3. You might as well ask "how long is a piece of string". There are too many factors, such as, type of photography, who the photographer is, who the customers are, etc etc ad infinitum. For a full timer it will range from about 15k through to any figure you want to mention. a
4. Depends on how good you are/how good you are at marketing
