How many hours of homework is the IB program?

How many hours of homework should I be expecting for the IB program per day. (approximately) Also, is it hard to balance 2 sciences and still have a social life? I am planning on taking: Biology HL English HL Business and Management HL Chemistry SL French SL Math SL

  1. Depends on the day, haha, and how fast of a worker you are. 3 hours maybe? In IB, we all learned how to procrastinate properly, haha, so we didn't necessarily do homework everyday. But for the small assignments (i.e. assigned one day and due the next), maybe somewhere between 2 and 4 hours? Sorry I can't be very precise. The bigger assignments occur throughout the year, and basically at the same time in all the classes, so during those times it will feel like the homework never ends! But you'll manage. I did Chemistry SL and Physics HL and it was fine. BUT I wasn't going out every night. And I don't know how they do it in other schools, but we did Grade 11 and Grade 12 Chemistry in Grade 11, so in my final year I didn't have to worry about chemistry. If you can work efficiently and get the work done when it's assigned to you (i.e. don't leave it until the last minute), you should be able to have a social life and still do well in the courses. Honestly, all I can say is that I was fine doing two sciences and I wasn't overwhelmed by homework (most of the time - it seemed to come in waves, with all the important things due at once). But maybe it's different for other people. I'm sure you'll be fine though!
  2. It depends how much time you're willing to put into it, and if you will settle for B's and C's in some classes in exchange for a social life. I think it's kind of crazy to take both Biology and Chemistry the same year since they involve so much memorization. Take a different SL class instead of chemistry. I'd recommend Psychology just because it's interesting and doesn't take much effort to learn.
