  1. Well, it seems to all be related to motivation and not giving up, not believing all of the stereotypes and discouragement that comes with life.
  2. One day I woke up and realized, this is my life. I'm not going to let anyone determine who I am or what I do with my life. I'm going to conquer and rise above what I lived through. I won't be another statistic that says children who grow up in dysfunctional families grow up to raise a new generation of dyfunction. Bottom line...determination. Of course, it helps if you have someone to talk to. See a counselor, join an online support group, talk to a friend. You have to put it behind you to truly be successful in life. Doesn't mean you have to forget, just cope.
  3. Sometimes a bad childhood is situational, parents might be good people but have bad jobs and they family is forced into a bad area. The kid can grow up with ethics and tools for living and find his way out of the trailer park. Other times, the kid isnt so lucky he grows up in the trailer park, and the trailer park grows inside of him
  4. Eleanor Roosevelt, president Gerald Ford ... had bad childhoods. But they were somehow unaffected. Sometimes I think it helps if you can have a good "second childhood" so to speak. Once you get the chance, attend some type of program or school that you are really interested in. That is what happened for Eleanor, and she found a bunch of really smart young people that she could finally talk to. Psychologists call such children "invulnerable". A clinical study of 100 males from backgrounds filled with trauma and conflict, found that as adults these men were "normal... in most instances superior."
