when a dog makes a happy face, does that really mean he's happy?

my puppy makes a "smiling" face. when they have a happy looking face can humans interpret it as a dog being happy or is it just a face they make? i think he does this when he think i'm going to give him a treat and after playing so does it scientifically mean he's happy?

  1. I don't know about the scientific part of this but both of my dogs smile after a good belly rub or when something is going on that they enjoy. I think dogs do smile when they are happy.
  2. No, usually thats a face they make when they are tired and panting or when they are excited or expecting something. There is no harm in it and it looks really cute, but you cant put human emotions to it. Just like a wagging tail doesnt really mean a happy dog.
  3. of course it does. dogs are like people to ya no they can be sad.angry.happy.or stressed. they can even cry. so ya.
