How do I plan a successful 50th birthday party for my dad, when his birthday is Christmas Day?

My dad never gets a normal birthday because his birthday is Christmas day. I want to make sure he gets a normal one, so it will be a luau theme, and I will be sending out invitations soon. (October 10). What is another way to insure I can make this successful? Any tips and ideas are more then welcome!
