What is so awful about wishing someone a happy birthday on facebook?

Do guys not like to be wished a happy birthday by someone they are not interested in romantically. One of of my guy friends was mad because a girl from work who apparently has a crush on him wished him a happy birthday on facebook He does not feel the same way about her but still...why would this make someone mad. I saw the message she wrote and all it said was "_____ hope you have a great 22'nd bday!" I don't get it, what is so repulsive about someone you are not interested in wishing you a happy birthday
