Where I can I find Michigan Birth, Marriage, and Death Records without gaps in years?

Where I can I find Michigan Birth, Marriage, and Death Records without gaps in years? I live in Michigan, and half of my ancestors are from here as well, but they all seem to have been born, married, and died during the gaps in the records on ancestry. What other places would have those records without the gaps in years? Thanks I mean like, there are only records from 1897 to 1921 or something, when I know there are records that exist for years other than those.

  1. Gaps in records are common because they were generated by humans, which are not perfect. The creation and existence of records depend on many things. Wars, laws, humans, etc. Records get lost, destroyed, legal requirements in their creation have changed over time, periods of war interfered with record keeping, etc. Ancestry.com may not be at fault for the gaps. The gaps may be in the originals as well. I would actually be quite surprised if there were no gaps because it is SO common to have them.

  3. This page has a list of websites other than Ancestry that have Michigan vital records: http://www.migenweb.net/milinks.htm It appears that there's nothing currently online after 1920. If a record isn't online, it's because either: a) Michigan hasn't given permission to publish later records b) Nobody has gotten around to indexing/uploading them yet c) Records don't exist for certain years (for instance, if there's a gap of a couple years in the online collections) But just because a record isn't online doesn't mean you can't get a hold of it. You just have to do it the old-fashioned way, by ordering a copy from the state vital records department, or the county where the event took place. It will cost you about $25 and may take several weeks to obtain, but if you really want the information, it's worth the time and money.
