+10 Why do doctors work like slaves these days? Are they really happy?

What happened in the past few decades? How did being a doctor go from being "one of the best jobs" to one of the most tiring, fatiguing, relentless thing out there? Are many doctors happy these days? What caused this trend? I heard that doctors had a LOT more vacation in the past... than they do now... is this true? how so?

1. Doctors have always worked hard. We have a far larger population than we had 20 years ago. Medicine itself has expanded, too. More people needing more medicine but not as many more doctors to meet the demand, so doctors have to pick up the slack and make do.
2. They have always been hard working... It's just in the past decade you just realized that... Doctors (most likely) enjoy their jobs so much because they are helping people. Which makes them happy. So yes. they are happy.
